![=The Prisoners=]

The main characters of the roleplay. Bearers of the "Ultimate" title, who have all been incarcerated in the Ultimate Prison.

* OnlyKnownByTheirNickname: All the prisoners, by necessity: they have all been made to forget their real names, and have only codenames assigned by the Ultimate Prison staff to refer to themselves.

[[folder:Prisoner X-01: [=M4-X1=]]]
!!M4-X1 (Maxi)

[[quoteright:308:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/danganronpa_twa_1_m4_x1_9.jpg]]

Prisoner X-01 is the Ultimate Robot, using the codename M4-X1. He is also referred to as "Maxi" by other prisoners. [[spoiler: M4-X1's real identity is named Makoto Naegi.]]

He uses the sprites of Keebo from Danganronpa V3. [[spoiler: His young human form uses sprites of a gender-bent Makoto Naegi, while his older human form uses Makoto Naegi's regular sprites from Danganronpa Trigger Happy Havoc]].
----
* AmbiguousGender: While most of the time referred to as a "he" by the cast, Maxi's gender is kept ambiguous by the narrator for the obvious reason that he's a robot. [[spoiler:However, Maxi's original human form was that of a female, as evidenced by the body in the morgue who turned out to be Maxi's true form, adding to the fact that Maxi's XID identified him as a female and his pool locker had a female swimsuit inside. In Chapter 6, Maxi cloaks into his human form as a male version of the body in the morgue, further solidifying this trope.]]
* FlawedPrototype: Called out as a defect [[spoiler: by Pithos]]. This becomes a major plot point, [[spoiler: as Maxi is *technically* the first ever being born out of the X-Project, although instead of being a homunculus like Bigwig, Maxi is the 4th robotic body that was meant to be for Makoto Naegi]].
* MechanicalEvolution: Maxi is able to grow stronger via upgrade chips, each one granting him a new function to use.
* OOCIsSeriousBusiness: Maxi uncharacteristically swears during Chapter 1 after noticing people missing after a blackout, [[spoiler: which would lead to the discovery of an unconscious Summer in the Hyperbaric Chamber and later on, Jabberwock dead in the Robo Works]].
* RageBreakingPoint: He passes it in Chapter 2, when [[spoiler: the prisoners discover Thestral's body in the trash compactor, and later on her head in one of the prison cells]].
* RidiculouslyHumanRobots: He's serving prison time alongside other inmates, which isn't something very common for robots -- alongside the fact he has human emotions ''and'' behaves like a normal human in general.
* VictoryPose: Maxi sometimes strikes a pose, followed by a loud sound. The pose often comes out when Maxi is feeling happy or proud of something he did.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Prisoner X-02: Thestral]]
!!Thestral

[[quoteright:308:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/danganronpa_twa_2_thestral_15.jpg]]

Prisoner X-02 is the Ultimate Motorcyclist, known only as "Thestral". She is one of the more cheerful and easygoing of the prisoners.
She uses the sprites of Ibuki from ''Danganronpa 2''.
----
* MeaningfulName: Her codename refers to a fictional horse-like creature, invented by J. K. Rowling in the ''Harry Potter'' novels. This is fitting for someone whose talent involves riding.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Prisoner X-03: Oni]]
!!Oni

[[quoteright:308:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/danganronpa_twa_3_oni.jpg]]

The strongest of the prisoners, Prisoner X-03 is the Ultimate Guitarist, with the codename "Oni".

He uses custom-made sprites of a human version of Monokid from ''New Danganronpa V3''.
----
* GentleGiant: Although he is huge and monstrous-looking, he is one of the more kindhearted and unselfish members of the cast.
* MeaningfulName: "Oni" is the name of a Japanese ogre-like monster. It is fitting for Oni, who looks a bit like a brutish, unkempt ogre, even if he's actually a good guy.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Prisoner X-04: Sagittarius]]
!!Sagittarius (Sage)

[[quoteright:308:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/danganronpa_twa_4_sagittarius.jpg]]

Prisoner X-04 is the Ultimate Stargazer. His officially assigned codename is "Sagittarius", although both he and everyone else prefer the shorter name "Sage".

He uses custom-made sprites based on Kokichi's Beta Design from New Danganronpa V3.
----
* AbsentMindedProfessor: Sage forgets his own codename when prompted to give it during the introductions, is often lost in his thoughts, and interrupts his own train of thought with new, tangentially related ideas. This is in contrast to the claim that he possesses a wealth of astrological knowledge.
-->'''Sage:''' .......Is the camera still running? Did I forget something?
* BigBrotherInstinct: He quickly becomes a big brother figure for Indigo, and becomes inseparable from her. [[spoiler:His protectiveness ultimately extends to the point where he sacrifices himself in hopes of saving Indigo from the prison.]]
* MeaningfulName: His codename refers to a zodiac sign, fittingly for his talent.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Prisoner X-05: Noire]]
!!Noire

[[quoteright:308:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/danganronpa_twa_5_noire.jpg]]

Prisoner X-05 is Noire, the Ultimate Crime Novelist. She seems emotionless and detached most of the time.

She uses the sprites of Sonia from ''Danganronpa 2''.
----
* MeaningfulName: Her codename references "noir", a subgenre of crime fiction. "Noire" is the feminine variant of "noir" in French.
* NotSoStoic: Even she can show strong emotions when pushed too far. She gets visibly upset when she finds [[spoiler:Mixer]] bleeding out in Chapter 1, and anguished after [[spoiler:Captain]] is revealed to be the Case 1 killer. She's clearly losing it by the end of the third trial.
* TheStoic: It's very rare that she shows any kind of strong emotion, even if it's obvious she's annoyed or enraged. Typically, a nervous sweat is the only indication that she's agitated.

[[/folder]]

[[folder:Prisoner X-06: Godfrey]]
!!Godfrey

[[quoteright:308:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/danganronpa_twa_6_godfrey_5.jpg]]

Prisoner X-06 is Godfrey, the Ultimate Anthropologist.

He uses the sprites of Korekiyo from ''New Danganronpa V3''.
----
* FeelNoPain: [[spoiler:This is his special passive ability, which he uses to commit a murder despite apparently having been debilitated by a serious injury]].

[[/folder]]

[[folder:Prisoner X-07: Mima]]
!!Mima

[[quoteright:308:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/danganronpa_twa_7_mima.jpg]]

Prisoner X-07 is Mima, the Ultimate Idol. She is elected as the second Prison Rep. She tries her best to prove herself useful, but often acts too impulsive and emotional.

She uses the sprites of Kanade from ''Super Danganronpa Another 2''.
----
* ArbitrarySkepticism: During Trial 5, she expresses disbelief about the idea of [[spoiler:transferring consciousness between artificial bodies]], prompting Noire to chew her out:
-->'''Noire:''' "Mima. [[spoiler:We had Indigo and her thing whatever it was. We had Bigwig and his healing. We also have Maxi.]] You tell me what is weird and come back with a better idea."
* TheDitz: She's the most likely one to say something dim-witted. For example, in Chapter 5 she panics over having found something alive, wriggling, and weird in the Aquarium... [[spoiler:apparently having never seen a ''jellyfish'' before]]. She also tends to make language mixups during the trials (e.g. talking about "pouring the knockout gas"); at one point, Maxi even feels the need to "translate from Mimanese" to clarify a confusing point to others.
* HiddenBuxom: After Trial 2, she reveals that she's been binding her chest, and promptly reveals that she is... very well-stocked.
* ShoutOut: Her codename is a reference to Mima, the idol protagonist of the movie ''Anime/PerfectBlue''.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Prisoner X-08: Network]]
!!Network

[[quoteright:308:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/danganronpa_twa_8_network.jpg]]

Prisoner X-08 is Network, the Ultimate 911 Operator. She is a somewhat odd girl who is obsessed with comic books.

She uses recolored and modified sprites of Chiaki from ''Danganronpa 2''.
----
* ArbitrarySkepticism: During Trial 4, she freely accepts the existence of [[spoiler:advanced AIs and people with a Healing Factor]], but refuses to believe in [[spoiler:ghosts that possess people]]. Although that's more because she refuses to accept the reality of [[spoiler:Indigo being the Blackened]].
* AscendedFangirl: She used to be an ordinary fan of superhero comics, until [[spoiler:with the help of her classmate, an Ultimate Engineer, she began using advanced gadgets to fight crime as a real-life superhero]].
* ForGreatJustice: [[spoiler:Her motivation for being a superhero is to "stand up for Justice".]]
* HiddenDepths: [[spoiler:She seems to be an ordinary comic book nerd… only to reveal herself in her final moments as a Batman-like vigilante superhero.]]
* MeaningfulName: Her codename, "Network", refers to her talent as a 911 operator (someone whose job involves a telephone network).
* NonPoweredCostumedHero: [[spoiler:Her secret identity, "Neuronic", a vigilante superhero who fights criminals with nothing more than martial arts and some gadgetry.]]
* NotSoStoic: She's usually got a neutral, slightly slack-jawed expression. Sometimes she shows slight sadness or annoyance. But during Trial 4, [[spoiler:when she's arguing against Indigo's guilt,]] she begins to burst into tears.
* TheCloudcuckoolanderWasRight: During the third trial, she randomly guesses that [[spoiler:Bigwig has a Healing Factor]], a hunch mostly based off her love of superhero comic books. It turns out to be 100% right.

[[folder:Prisoner X-09: Sabrina]]
!!Sabrina (Tsukiyomi)
[[quoteright:308:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/danganronpa_twa_9_sabrina.jpg]]

Prisoner X-09 is the Ultimate Witch, assigned the codename "Sabrina". However, she prefers using the name "Tsukiyomi".

She uses custom-made sprites, based on Himiko from ''New Danganronpa V3''.
----
* MeaningfulName: Her assigned codename, "Sabrina", is presumably a reference to Series/SabrinaTheTeenageWitch. Her chosen codename, "Tsukiyomi", likely refers to a moon god in Japanese mythology.
* ReallySeventeenYearsOld: [[spoiler:Although appearing adult, she is in fact significantly younger, and only reveals it in Chapter 4.]]

[[/folder]]

[[folder:Prisoner X-10: Captain]]
!!Captain
[[quoteright:308:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/danganronpa_twa_10_captain.jpg]]

Prisoner X-10, called "Captain", is the Ultimate Sailor. He is quickly elected as the first Prison Rep.

He uses the sprites of Teruya from ''Super Danganronpa Another 2''.
----
* ChekhovsGunman: [[spoiler:He is executed in Chapter 1 and seemingly plays no great role... But then the question of who he exactly was and why he committed the murder becomes very relevant in Chapter 6.]]
* DeathbedConfession: [[spoiler:Captain's final words before his execution are about his past as a slave trader and the motivations behind them. The prisoners, who had been incredibly supportive of Captain prior to this reveal, are horrified by his crime and chastise him heavily.]]
* HumanTraffickers: [[spoiler:Revealed to be Captain's crime at the end of Chapter 1.]]
* KickTheMoralityPet: [[spoiler:Captain's execution involves him shooting at various mannequins of his fellow prisoners, including one of Summer, one of the very few people who still had faith in him. Captain shoots it, only for him to realize, when blood splatters on him, that that was the real Summer. The realization causes him to stumble back in horror... only for him to fall into the water, where he's torn apart by sharks and water pressure.]]
* TheLeader: Even his name says so. In the first session, by a good majority, the other prisoners vote him to be the first Prison rep.
* {{Leitmotif}}: Captain's Courage, a remix of "N's Castle Bridge" from ''Pokemon''. [[spoiler: In fact, a remix of N's castle returns for his execution.]] Later, [[spoiler:and a different version of N's Castle Bridge plays as the investigation theme for Kaido's death.]]
* LikeFatherUnlikeSon: In Captain's past, this is initially averted, as Captain was growing up to be just as great of a sailor as his father. However, it's played straight when [[spoiler:Captain begins to engage in illegal trafficking, eventually causing Captain's father to disown him as he's being arrested]].
* MeaningfulName: His codename, "Captain", is a straightforward reference to his job as a sailor.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Prisoner X-11: Summer]]
!!Summer

[[quoteright:308:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/danganronpa_twa_11_summer.jpg]]

Codenamed "Summer", prisoner X-11 is the Ultimate Surgeon and as such she tends to fill the role of the doctor... or coroner.

She uses custom-made, older sprites of Kanata Inori from ''Super Danganronpa Another''.
----
* MamaBear: [[spoiler:Her slaying of Bigwig to save Pandora becomes this retroactively, after she learns that she is indeed Pandora's mother.]]
* TheMedic: As the one with medical knowledge, she typically ends up taking care of prisoners who have gotten into a serious accident.

[[/folder]]

[[folder:Prisoner X-12: Thespis]]
!!Thespis (Moki)
[[quoteright:308:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/danganronpa_twa_12_thespis.jpg]]

Prisoner X-12 is the Ultimate Puppeteer. Technically, the prisoner has the codename "Thespis"; however, the puppeteer insists on calling themselves "Moki", and uses "Thespis" for their puppet, a one-eared gray cat.

They use the sprites of Mikihiko Koyasunaga from the cancelled fangame ''Danganronpa Blowback''.
----
* AmbiguousGender: Moki is only ever referred to in narration as "they", and although they look distinctly feminine, whether they're male or female is unclear. Moki has been referred to as he, she, or they by their creator at different times.
* ConsultingMisterPuppet: The Ultimate Puppeteer, codename Moki, is constantly seen with their puppet, Thespis, and frequently talks through them.
-->'''Thespis:''' We're the most amazing duo there's ever been, you could even say we're one and the same!
* ExplosiveLeash: A variant -- unbeknownst to anyone else, [[spoiler:the puppet has a remotely controlled bomb inside it, put there by Apollyon as a way to force Moki into doing her bidding. Although the puppet is not physically attached to Moki, the prisoner is under constant surveillance and Apollyon will detonate the explosive as soon as Moki tries getting rid of the doll.]]
* MeaningfulName: Their codename refers to history's first actor, Thespis, or thespianism as a whole (the art of acting).
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Prisoner X-13: Jabberwock]]
!!Jabberwock (JK)

[[quoteright:308:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/danganronpa_twa_13_jabberwock.jpg]]

Prisoner X-13, codename "Jabberwock", is the Ultimate Logician. She prefers to use the shorter nickname "JK", however.

She uses fan-made sprites of Ryoko Otonashi from the light novel ''Danganronpa/Zero''.
----
* WeHardlyKnewYe: [[spoiler:She is the first victim, dead after the first few sessions.]]

[[/folder]]

[[folder:Prisoner X-14: Mixer]]
!!Mixer

[[quoteright:308:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/danganronpa_twa_14_mixer.jpg]]

Prisoner X-14, "Mixer", is the Ultimate Bartender.

He uses edited sprites of Eijiro Maeda from the fan story ''Nextgenronpa''.
----
* AnArmAndALeg: [[spoiler:He loses a leg to an elevator in Chapter 4, causing him to be confined to a wheelchair for quite some time.]]
* MeaningfulName: His codename refers to his talent, the "Ultimate Bartender".
* TheNicknamer: Mixer seems to have a nickname for everyone: "Bags" for Sage, "Sparkles" for Noire, "Pinkie" for Mima, "Hat" for Captain, "Red" for Jabberwock...

[[/folder]]

[[folder:Prisoner X-15: Indigo]]
!!Indigo

[[quoteright:308:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/danganronpa_twa_15_indigo.jpg]]

The youngest of all prisoners, "Indigo" is Prisoner X-15 and the Ultimate Junior Artist. She is one of the most emotionally fragile prisoners, given her young age. [[spoiler:She apparently also displays supernatural abilities.]]

She uses fan-made sprites based on Hal, the protagonist of the game ''Unreal Life''.
----
* HarmfulToMinors: She's an ordinary kid in the middle of a killing game in a doomed prison. As such, she is forced to bear witness to traumatic scenes quite a few times.
* IllGirl: [[spoiler:Her condition is slowly killing her, and she doesn't have long to live. This was likely one of the things which drove Sage into sacrificing himself to help her.]]
* MeaningfulName: Her codename refers to a color, indigo, which is fitting for her artistic talent.
* ProneToTears: She cries quite frequently, which is understandable, given her young age and the traumatic situation she's in.
* SplitPersonality: [[spoiler:She believes that she has a "ghost" haunting her. She actually has a third hemisphere in her brain, and the "ghost" is her split personality.]]
* SuperpoweredEvilSide: [[spoiler:What the "ghost" ultimately is. Whenever it takes over, which occurs in response to Indigo being under heavy stress, it usually uses its psychic powers to lash out at people.]]

[[/folder]]

![=Other Characters=]

[[folder:Pandora]]
!!Pandora

[[quoteright:320:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/danganronpa_twa_pandora.jpg]]

The young girl who serves as the warden of the Ultimate Prison. She takes her position very seriously, and initially has nothing but contempt for the criminals under her watch. However, the horrors of the Ultimate Prison do not leave her unfazed.

She uses the sprites of Kotoko from ''Danganronpa Another Episode''.
----
* BerserkButton: She gets really annoyed whenever one of the Ultimate prisoners tries touching her.
* BigDamnHeroes: [[spoiler:She bursts into the execution zone to save Indigo after trial 4.]]
* HarmfulToMinors: Due to her age and relative innocence, she does really poorly with the sight of blood and violence.
* ImprobableAge: Pandora is a little kid (13 years old)... who is also the warden of the Ultimate Prison.
* MeaningfulName: Pandora's codename has a number of potential interpretations.
** She's a girl tasked with protecting the seal restraining all evil from being released, only to inadvertently open said seal and free it - in this case, the seal corresponds to the Black Rocket that starts the Killing Game.
** More diegetically, as the Ultimate Warden, she is tasked with containing evil in a box, or a prison.
** The mythological Pandora's other name is Anesidora, which means "she who sends up gifts" (up implying "from below" within the earth). Using the Black Rocket, Pandora is meant to send herself and the winner up to the surface from the Abyss.
* TheNicknamer: Beginning in Season 2, she starts to use descriptive nicknames for certain people, such as "Pink Man" for Mixer or "Stinky Doc" for Summer.
* OlderThanTheyLook: She's actually 13, but she looks almost like a pre-teen (since she uses sprites of Kotoko who is an elementary-school student in Danganronpa canon). Her general naivety (coming from her sheltered upbringing) doesn't help.
* SubvertedTrope: Her entire personality is this in the context of "killing game" ''Danganronpa Online'' roleplays. [[spoiler:Usually such roleplays have the killing game run by a heartless, sadistic figure modeled on Monokuma or [[VisualNovel/ZeroEscape Zero]]. By contrast, Pandora is just an innocent girl who is forced into running the killing game by the Black Rocket (which itself is apparently a mindless program), and she is highly upset by all the murders and executions.]]
* TheWoobie: She starts as a rude, bratty kid, but once you learn about her past, you want to give her a big hug. [[spoiler:She was taken from her parents at a young age, imprisoned for unknown reasons in a prison cell for who knows how long, was later "adopted" by the prison's warden (Apollyon) who abused her, and finally was forced into the role of a warden enforcing a brutal killing game. She does not even remember anything about the world outside the prison, other than what little scraps of information she's been told. During the roleplay itself, she has to watch numerous people die, in Trial 3 she is used as a human shield and very nearly killed, and in Trial 5 she is abducted by the Black Rocket.]]
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Spoiler Character]]
!!Bigwig

[[quoteright:308:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/danganronpa_twa_z_bigwig.jpg]]

The sixteenth (or zeroth?) prisoner. Prisoner X-00, codenamed "Bigwig", is only discovered in Chapter 2, kept in suspended animation inside a mysterious machine. After being freed, he promptly joins the main cast. He has lost his memory, and his Ultimate Talent is initially unknown.

He uses the sprites of Ryoma from ''New Danganronpa V3''.
----
* AmnesiacResonance: At moments, he has sudden fits of anger during which he shouts commands at people; after each such fit, he suffers from a headache, and explains that he has no idea why he did that. [[spoiler:These are early hints to his true identity: the Ultimate Dictator]].
* TheCynic: His outlook on life is not too bright, to say the least. As far as he's concerned, caring for one's own interests is the only logical way of living, nobody should ever be trusted, and people who are willing to help others are fools who deserve to be used.
* DissonantSerenity: Probably the first major sign that something's ''off'' about him is his reaction to the discovery of [[spoiler:Thestral's]] body (or at least, what's left of it). While everyone else is screaming, hyperventilating, or otherwise freaking out, Bigwig remains utterly unconcerned.
* EvilIsPetty: [[spoiler:After he is found guilty in Trial 3, he announces that he's going to vote for Noire, just because he refuses to contribute to his own demise. And before going to the execution, he takes time to mock the other prisoners, refuses to tell them what he knows, and traumatizes Pandora as much as he can with his words.]]
* FlatEarthAtheist: He staunchly refuses to believe in [[spoiler:the "ghost" haunting Indigo]]... even after seeing firsthand the results of its activity, which include lights going out spontaneously and the ground shaking. He insists that it's some sort of a trick.
* MeaningfulName: Bigwig's codename [[spoiler:turns out to be directly related to his talent: he is the Ultimate Dictator]].
* SixthRanger: Bigwig's existence is only revealed in Chapter 2, at which point he joins the main cast as a sixteenth prisoner.
* VerbalTic: He tends to precede his sentences with "Hoh."
* VillainousBreakdown: [[spoiler:Once Network proves his guilt, he briefly hallucinates that he's once again a dictator, and he derangedly barks orders at imaginary henchmen, telling them to arrest everyone in the courtroom.]]
* WouldHurtAChild: [[spoiler:His reaction to being sentenced to execution? Grab Pandora (who is about 13 years old) and use her as a human shield throughout the entire execution. Yikes.]]

[[/folder]]

[[folder:Apollyon]]
!!Apollyon

[[spoiler:Pandora's "Big Sis", the previous Warden, and the mastermind behind the killing game]]. Her true name is [[spoiler:Sayaka Shinoyama, the Ultimate Experimental Scientist]].

[[spoiler:Her younger version uses the sprites of Sayaka Maizono from ''Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc'', while her older version is represented by Tsumugi Shirogane from ''New Danganronpa V3''.]]
----
* AbusiveParents: [[spoiler:Acted this way towards Pandora, including brutal corporal and psychological punishments, as well as generally brainwashing her.]]
* RoboticReveal: [[spoiler:In the finale of Trial 6, the Apollyon that confronts the players turns out to be just a holographic projection concealing a robotic body.]]
