** Which makes the rescue scene in episode 2, in which JR and crew disguise themselves as officers wearing those same Civil Protection uniforms, kind of weird. Makes you wonder either why JR is wearing such a uniform already, or why he had to "disguise" himself.

* HeyItsThatGuy: Smith's character model is the freaking ''G-Man''. It certainly fits with his character personality, type, and role, all of which have certain similarities with the G-Man's. Though Mr. Smith has several humanizing traits, such as needing to take medication to prevent warp drive upsetting his stomach[[labelnote:*]]Then again, that might have been misdirection — it's hard to know with Smith.[[/labelnote]], expressing sympathy for JR's dislike of cabins because he himself is "holed up in an office for most of the time", [[spoiler:giving him a brand new ship]] as a token of thanks, etc. He even expresses mild embarrassment/discomfort when JR finds out his EmbarrassingFirstName.

* HeyItsThatGuy: Sasha's character model is Judith Mossman, though her sweater is dark blue instead of white.

* HeyItsThatGuy: Hausmann's character model is Eli Vance, and his voice actor even sounds a bit like him. Which makes it really unsettling for anyone who's played ''Half-Life 2'' to see him in the role of antagonist, AntiVillain or no.

** To be fair, they didn't know that [[spoiler:Ghost was not aware of the attack on the jammer]], and likely believed that [[spoiler:he was ready to warp ships over the moment the Magellan withdrew]].

* JustBetweenYouAndMe: Takes the time to explain his motivations to JR and his crew, even scolding everyone to let him finish when they start bickering.

When we first see him, he's about to hit a mining operation before John's distress call reaches him seconds before he decides which ship to shoot. [[spoiler:Turns out he's faking it and his conscience has been gnawing at him over the civilians who died when John helped him steal his Widow. "I never did tell you how I slept at night: Badly."]]

One of the (many) privateers hired by Mr. Smith, called upon to protect ''Clear Skies'' so it can deliver the cyno jammer. Happens to be an old acquaintance of Charlie.
