* ExplainingYourPowersToTheEnemy: {{Inverted|Trope}}; As the leader of the Public Safety Bureau, Makima has to access to an exclusive contract with an extremely powerful Devil that is kept as secret as possible to not give the organisation's enemies any possible advantage. Whenever she uses its power, the other employees are legally required to wear blindfolds. [[spoiler:Said Devil is ''herself'' -- she's using her own powers and has made contracts with both other devils and humans such as the Japanese Prime Minister, but only shows this off later in the series.]]

* DemiurgeArchetype: Makima has a halo, is worshipped by dozens of fanatical followers, her right-hand man is an angel. Her entire master plan revolves around brainwashing everyone into worshipping her, with her main servants referred to as the 9 orders of angels. She considers Chainsaw Man her "archangel" and uses him like a weapon.

* CradlingYourKill: She cradles [[spoiler:Reze]] as she dies, not out of any sort of kindness or remorse.... but simply to prevent her from using her powers.

** Contrary to what you'd expect, [[YouDirtyRat Rats]]. Makima has [[TheNoseKnows an extremely sharp nose]], displays [[PestController the ability to bend the animals to her will]], [[spoiler:and confronts Reze after manifesting out a SwarmOfRats while referencing the "Town Mouse or Country Mouse" fable and her association to the First Horseman who while representing Conquest, has also been thought of to be Pestilence]]. It adds to her [[AmbiguouslyEvil suspicious, sinister presence]]. She is also associated with [[FeatheredFiend birds]], as she controls them in much the same way.

* BeingEvilSucks: For all her power and brilliance, her date with Denji and the reveal of her true desires show her to be this. What she really wants is simply to be loved and have actual friends and companions, something which with her skills, she could have easily gotten, but her cruelty, arrogance, and megalomania lead her to dismiss all of those chances in favor of Pochita, which eventually [[spoiler:results in her suffering a particularly [[CruelAndUnusualDeath gruesome]] and UndignifiedDeath]].

* AmbiguouslyEvil: Nayuta doesn't particularly care about human beings (which is actually worse than her predecessor who sincerely wanted to make the world a better place), may be using her powers freely to get what she wants, and sees a casual attitude to murder as an inherent to being a devil. She is however rather flippant about it, and willing to avoid killing humans if only because it's important to Denji. [[spoiler:Chapter 155 shows that when first discovered, Nayuta specifically intended to continue Makima's plan to give Denji the happiness he wanted via a normal life and then destroy it all, albeit for the new goal of learning about her own identity. However as she continues living with Denji, he manages to give her a new foundation to build her sense of self on: being his family. In a sharp contrast to everything that Makima did to Denji, Nayuta ultimately [[HeroicSacrifice sacrifices]] her life to save him.]]

* WhatYouAreInTheDark: Nayuta doesn't want to kill humans... when Denji would get mad at her for it. But, to her own surprise, she doesn't enjoy it either.

* CurbStompCushion: Makima is the first person to actually do visible damage[[labelnote:note]]Denji [[NoSell didn't do any damage]] but he nevertheless actually scored a hit on it and left its human faces [[OhCrap visibly shocked]][[/labelnote]] to the [[spoiler:Darkness]] Devil, but is still clearly ''incredibly'' outmatched. The moment she tries for a followup attack, it ''evaporates'' her arm and impales her and might very well have ''killed'' her if she hadn't escaped.

* BeingEvilSucks: Despite all her talk about how it's just a devils nature to kill and her enthusiasm for Denji's violent escapades, when she's forced into a situation where she has to kills, turns out it brings her no joy at all and she admits that she has more fun playing video games.

* TookALevelInCheerfulness: Much more energetic when she reappears in Part 2 while also being a demanding hellion.
* TookALevelInKindness: As Makima's reincarnation, she only has very small traces of her past self's memories -- some of which are instinctual and some of which were learned by peering into Denji's mind. Though something of a CreepyChild, she bonds to Denji quickly, and they finish the final chapter hugging each other in their sleep. Her reappearance in Part 2 suggests this only really applies to Denji, who she does seem to have a legitimate attachment to, unlike Makima. Maybe [[ClingyJealousGirl too much]] of an attachment, as she reacts very badly to walking in on Yoru kissing him, though she's also willing to undo the mental changes she made to Yoru (under the conditions that she gets ice cream everyday and Denji stops seeing Asa) and comically fights with her dogs when they try to steal her dinner instead of controlling them to stop, both things Makima would ''never'' do. Furthermore, while Makima was a chronic liar, manipulator, and gaslighter, Nayuta is completely upfront with Denji about ''why'' she dislikes Asa and doesn't make any attempt to play with her surrogate brother's emotions.

* ADayInTheLimelight: Part 2's Chainsaw Man Church arc manages to do this to Makima ''as a PosthumousCharacter'', as she is shown to be a large influence over both the Church's motivations and her future self Nayuta's quest for identity.

** While she seems to know about Denji's general history (more specifically [[CartwrightCurse his dating life]]), it's unclear how much, if anything, she knows about her previous life as Makima. There are small hints, such as her vaguely referencing Makima's regard of him as a dog and imitating Denji's peace sign response despite, taking DeathOfPersonality into account, having only just met him. Becomes even more ambiguous with chapter 131's reveal that [[spoiler:she is fully aware that she is the Control Devil, and she knows the Famine Devil enough to call her "sister". Despite this, she is distinct enough from Makima that she refuses to help Famine out with her plans because she has grade-school, and her control powers don't work on Barem because he is ''specifically'' still devoted to Makima.]]

[[spoiler:Nayuta initially defined herself as merely an extension of Makima, thus seeking to continue her former self's goals of destroying Denji out of a desperate desire to have some sense of self, yet was slowly able to carve out an identity as her own person through her familial relationship with Denji. All of that, however, is abruptly cut short by Barem Bridge who, in a fanatical obsession to realize Makima's goals, does ''exactly'' what Nayuta initially set out to do by burning Denji's entire life to the ground. In a sharp contrast to Makima, Nayuta chooses to put her life on the line to save Denji, cementing to herself that she ''is'' her own person right before Barem has her killed by an angry mob. In a moment of tragic irony, Nayuta learns to value herself for who she truly is, only to be killed for that exact same reason by a man fanatically carrying out Nayuta's original goals to the letter.]]

* GreaterScopeVillain: Makima ends up as the overarching antagonist of Part 2 alongside [[spoiler:the Death Devil]]; [[spoiler:despite being dead for several months and reincarnated into a completely different person, the Weapon Humans heading up the Chainsaw Man Church are still attempting to carry out her alleged WellIntentionedExtremist goals to use Chainsaw Man to defeat the looming threat of the [[GreaterScopeVillain Death Devil]], while Barem in particular seeks revenge against Denji.]]

* BecomingTheMask: [[spoiler:Chapter 155 reveals that Nayuta originally planned to continue Makima's plan to crush his hopes and spirit. However, after spending time with him, she realized that this wasn't what she truly wanted to do.]]

* EnfantTerrible: She's a highly possessive brat by the time she's shown again in Part 2, sadistically using her powers to humiliate people for encroaching upon what she perceives to be "(her) property". She openly thinks being a devil makes it normal for her to kill any living thing and needed Denji to talk her out of ''actively aiding'' [[spoiler:the impending apocalypse]].
