Also, her second ability will be more powerful the more you Limit Break her, so completing as much Chain Stories as possible is a good thing.

!!The Hero

''Grab the light!''

[[quoteright:300:http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/chainchronicle_hero.png]]
-->Voiced by: AkiraIshida

The leader of a small squad in the Volunteer Army, he is thrust into the spotlight when he rescues Phoena from the Black Army forces that were pursuing her. Along with his sprite companion Pirika, he accompanies the amnesiac girl in her journey to recover her lost memories, which in the process leads them into direct conflict with the leader of the Black Army himself, the Black King.
----
* {{Badass}}: Already a competent warrior even before encountering Phoena, by the end of book 1 he's fought and defeated (with some help of course) goblin raiders, rampaging wolfmen, elementals, rampaging demons, dragons, superpowered madmen...
* TheChosenOne: While it seems that at first that the Hero is just some low-ranking soldier who just had the luck to rescue Phoena when he did, as the game goes on it becomes apparent that there's ''something'' special about the Hero.
* ChronicHeroSyndrome: If one of the members of the Volunteer Army needs help, he's ready and willing to help them solve their problems.
* {{Determinator}}: While his physical prowess isn't anything special, his persistence and tenacity in the face of overwhelming odds is a thing to behold. [[spoiler:Just ask the Black Knight in Chapter 10.]]
* DidYouJustPunchOutCthulhu: He eventually faces down and defeats the Black King, who at that point had transformed into the physical embodiment of madness and destruction. Not bad for someone who sort of started out as a low-ranked noncom.
* HeroicMime[=/=]SilentProtagonist: Outside of his Special Moves, the Hero doesn't really talk much. In fact, Pirika or Phoena literally speak for him during most of the main plot and the various character quests. Depending on the dialogue choices you choose however he can be either TheCharmer or a very DeadpanSnarker.
* HelloInsertNameHere: The name selected by the player at the start of the game will be the one used by Pirika and Phoena whenever he is mentioned in conversations.
* HeroicWillpower: Something that surprises even the Black Knight during their final encounter.
* MagneticHero: A good number of the recruits to the Volunteer Army are there ''because'' of the Hero himself, or his exploits.
* NiceGuy: Heavily implied, or else he probably wouldn't do ''half'' the Arcana-related quests (some of which involve some manner of embarrassment or injury to himself).
* TookALevelInBadass: As shown by his 5-star Arcana.

!!Pirika
[[quoteright:223:http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/chainchronicle_pirika.png]]

The Hero's faithful companion, Pirika is a sprite, though of what type no one is really sure, not even Pirika herself. Despite being less than a foot tall, she possesses the courage -- and the attitude -- of someone many times larger, and will not hesitate to throw herself into the fray against the forces of the Black Army to help her friends.
----
* DeadpanSnarker: Much like the Hero, Pirika can pour on the snark when she's inclined to do so.
* FairyCompanion: For the Hero and, later on, for Phoena as well.
* IAmWho: [[spoiler:The Fragment of the World's Will, that's what.]]
* SeriesMascot: For ChainChronicle itself.
* SingleSpecimenSpecies: Unlike all the other nature-attuned Sprites, Pirika is the only one of her kind, though this fact doesn't seem to bother her that much. [[spoiler:It turns out, there's a very VERY good reason why there's only one of her.]]

!!Phoena

''I trust you.''

[[quoteright:250:http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/chainchronicle_phoena.png]]
-->Voiced by: AyaneSakura

A girl that the Hero and Pirika rescued during one of their routine patrols, she could recall nothing of her past. The forces of the Black Army have a keen interest in her however, especially the strange tome that she carries with her. With nowhere to go, she enlists in the Volunteer Army, in the hope of rediscovering her past over the course of their journeys.
----
* ApocalypseMaiden: What Sage Fatima considers her to be. Can you seriously blame her for thinking so though, ''especially'' when the grimoire Phoena keeps with her randomly summons hordes of monsters?
* DistressedDamsel: Very early on in the game. Phoena eventually grows out of it.
* QuestForIdentity: Much of the game's plot is driven by Phoena's need to find out who she really is.
* RoyalsWhoActuallyDoSomething: [[spoiler:Once Phoena recalls her identity as the daughter of the Black King, she becomes this, and actively rally the forces that would oppose her father, and eventually join the Hero in facing him down.]]
* TraumaInducedAmnesia: Phoena literally can't remember anything prior to her meeting the Hero and Pirika. [[spoiler:And with good reason -- witnessing your father, the King, go insane after being possessed by a malevolent and ancient evil AND destroy the kingdom you grew up in will do a number on a girl.]]
