A group of cardfighters who go and force other fighters to fight them using special gloves that inflict electric shocks whenever they take damage, going as far as to take over shops. Among them is Team [=AL4=], or Apex Limited 4, which is comprised of the top four fighters of the organization.

* AdaptationalNiceGuy: In the original series, he saw the Cardfight Club as a waste of resources and wanted it to disband, but in this he has no problem letting the club exist since they adhere to all the rules and the only reason he wants it to disband later on in ''VD'' is because they don't have enough members anymore.
* CatchPhrase: Is quite fond of using the english word "global" whenever he speaks.

* {{Chuunibyou}}: An obvious exemple of the Evil Eye type.
* CrouchingMoronHiddenBadass: He is a downplayed exmple of this trope as, in spite of his general attitude, he does has skills as a vanguard fighter.

* GratuitousEnglish: Often uses english words and expressions whenever he talks, likely to make himself sound cooler.
* PsychicPowers: He claims that he has [=ESP=]. Emphasis on "claims".

Twins girls who are related to Leon.

* AgeLift: Averted. Unlike Leon, they have been stated to be the same age they were in the original series, making them older than him in this continuity.
* AlwaysIdenticalTwins: They look and even dress identical to each other, with only their voices and the way their is tied being different.
* IdenticalTwinIDTag: The only way to tell them apart besides their voices is to look at their hair. Jillian's hair is tied on the left while Sharlene's is tied on the right.
* TemptingFate: Sharlene believes that Aichi will be "no problem" for Leon, only for the latter to end up losing.
* UnderestimatingBadassery: Sharlene doesn't seem to think much of Aichi and thinks it'll be an easy victory for Leon, despite the latter having made it to the finals of the tournament, defeating many powerhouses to do so.
* YouGottaHaveBlueHair: Both of them have light blue hair.

!!Masaki Ishida
Naoki's older brother and a college student. He is dissatisfied with his younger brother's attitude and wishes the latter would change.

* AscendedExtra: Although Naoki was stated to have an older brother in the manga, he did not appear in person.
* FoolishSiblingResponsibleSibling: As stated in Naoki's entry above, he is a more subdued case of the responsible sibling to Naoki's foolish, having been accepted in a first-rate college while the latter isn't interested in following his example.
* StrongFamilyResemblance: Has the same hair and eye color as his younger brother, making it easy to tell they are related.

* DarkerAndEdgier: Their original incarnation was a legitimate cardfighting organization, albeit one filled with {{Jerkass}} fighters. Here, they're a glorified gang that attacks shops and subjects their opponents to [[ShockAndAwe electric torture]].
* DubNameChange: From Foo Fighters to Team Asteroid. Made especially jarring when they say Foo Fighters but the subtitles read Asteroid.
* HeelFaceTurn: After Ren's defeat at the hands of Aichi, they stopped invading shops.
* {{Jerkass}}: Thus far, none of their members shown on-screen have been particularly pleasant people. At least, [[HeelFaceTurn at first]].
* KlingonPromotion: In order to become a member of team [=AL4=] you need to beat one of their members or someone who has defeated them.
* TheSocialDarwinist: Their one rule is "Winners get all! Losers get lost!".
* ShockAndAwe: The special CF gloves they use inflict an electric shock whenever a player takes a damage. Losing players tend to temporarily collapse from the repeated shocks their bodies are subjected to.
* StopHavingFunGuys: InUniverse example. They force people to play with gloves that shock them whenever they take damage and forcefully take over the shops

The leader of both Team [=AL4=] and the Foo Fighters as a whole. He is a former acquaintance of Kai.

His uses the Shadow Paladin clan, with his avatar being Blaster Dark. His strategy revolves around calling rearguards before sacrificing them to use the skill of his Phantom Blaster Dragon while also forcing his opponent to retire their own rearguards. In the High School arc, he upgrades his deck by adding Gust Blaster Dragon as an alternative to Phantom Blaster and including more units with low power or capable of calling units with low power.

* AbusiveParents: It was shown that Ren's father would hit him if he did not live up to his expectations.
* AccidentalMisnaming: Calls Miwa ''Biwa'' in episode 40.
* AdaptationPersonalityChange: In the original, he was DrunkOnTheDarkSide and very serious and sadistic. Here, while still an antagonistic force, he is still a bit of an [[TheDitz airhead]] outside of fighting, which is more in accordance with Ren from his season 2 appearance and on rather than his original appearance in season 1.
* AdaptationalBackstoryChange: No mention was made of Ren's father in the original anime. Additionally, his relationship with Kai from before the start of the story is also different.
* AdaptationalNiceGuy: This version of Ren lacks the MightMakesRight mindset of his original series counterpart and is less of a {{Jerkass}} as shown when he doesn't kick Asaka from [=AL4=] after her loss against Misaki.
* AffablyEvil: For the leader of a gang of {{Jerkass}} cardfighters, he's fairly cordial to everyone he meets, including the people of the shops his group is trying to invade.
* BloodKnight: Implied by his first line.

* DefeatingTheUndefeatable: Ren's goal is to defeat Kai who, as far as Ren initially knows, never lost a fight. Learning that Aichi defeated Kai before him becomes a sore point for him.
* {{Depower}}: Tetsu and Suiko speculate this has happened to him during the timeskip between the first and second arcs in regards to his [=PSYqualia=] as he is no longer shown using it and they even speculate that he may no longer have it at all. This is eventually subverted as Ren is still shown to have it but simply chooses to not use it unless the situation demands it.
* TheDitz: When not fighting, he's a bit of a dork. He casually walks up to other fighters ignorant of their visible stress talking to him, easily confuses Kyou for a girl when Kyou tells him to stop calling him "boy" in an episode preview, and mistook Kawanami acting like a dog for ''an actual dog'' up until he spoke.
* IconicItem: His avatar card, Blaster Dark.
* LonelyAtTheTop: His driving motivation. Ren is bored out of his mind due to no one being able to challenge him, and he perceives Kai as being the same way. He believes that the two of them can mitigate each other's boredom, but Kai rejects Ren's reliance on [=PSYqualia=].
* TheNicknamer: Refers to the other members of [=AL4=] by nicknames instead of using their real names, except for Kyou who he refers only as "Boy" due to not acknowledging his strength. He later extends this to Misaki, showing that he acknowledges her skill.
* NoKillLikeOverkill: The end of his fight against Asaka has him defeat her using Gust Blaster Dragon that, thanks to a combination if its own skill and double critical triggers, reached a total of six criticals.
* PsychicPower: He still has his [=PSYqualia=], and it can extend to fights not involving him as shown during Asaka's fight with Misaki.

!! Tetsu Shinjou

A member of Team [=AL4=] and Ren's second-in-command. He, like Ren, knew Kai back when the latter was part of Foo Fighters. He is the creator of the [=VF=] Gloves used by the members of Foo Fighters.

He uses a Dark Irregulars deck, building up the number of cards in his soul to unlock the abilities of his units while relying on the Protect gift marker to help defend against attacks. To finish his opponent, he relies on No Life King, Death Anchor allowing him to make another attack with his vanguard by riding another Grade 3 from the soul mid-battle with the added bonus of an extra critical. In the High School arc, he replaces it with Dantarian and instead focuses on powering up his units.

* DePower: He's the first major victim of Ibuki's Deletors, severing his connection as a Vanguard to Cray, and making him lose his connection to his deck.
* DragonInChief: He's been Ren's right hand ever since Foo Fighters conception. That said, Ren's general [[TheDitz ditzy]] nature forces Tetsu to take charge more often than not, ranging from deploying fighters to organizing raids. Episode 19 even shows he was the one who created the [=VF=] gloves and proposed that Foo Fighters start taking over the shops.
* TheHeavy: As the one responsible for not only organizing the raids on card shops but proposing the idea in the first place, Tetsu is reponsible for most of the events of the [=PSYqualia=] arc happening.
* MrExposition: Fulfills this role in regards to explaining how [=PSYqualia=] works. Justified since Tetsu has developed an interest in it and has been studying it for some time.
* OhCrap: His reaction to learning that Kai was the fighter that beat Minami.
* UndyingLoyalty: To Ren.
* TheWorfEffect: Is the first fighter defeated by Ibuki in an on-screen fight in order to establish the latter and his Deletors as a threat.
* TooDumbToLive: Tetsu has made several short-sighted decisions.
** When testing out his VF gloves, he has [[DevotedToYou Asaka]] use them against Ren, and despite the visible pain they put her in, she brushes it off solely to make Ren happy, convincing Tetsu to go through with the plan to mass produce them thinking they'd work fine, in the process ignoring how they act more like instruments of torture.
** When fighting Ibuki, who he knows has [=PSYqualia=], he proceeds to allow an attack to go through while he's at three damage, while Ibuki is playing a Force based deck, as in a deck known to run ''8 critical triggers''. Two seconds later Ibuki's [=PSYqualia=] gives his two critical triggers and Tetsu not only loses, but he's also {{DePower}}ed in the process.

The third member of Team [=AL4=] who has a crush on Ren. She comes to Card Capital after learning that Kai was there and confronts Miwa and Misaki in cardfights.

Asaka plays a Pale Moon deck using the clan's ability to call units from the soul and the extra circle provided by the Accel gift marker to gain extra attacks. This aggressive playstyle, however, has the downside of depleting her hand either as a result of calling rearguards or by using it to pay the cost for the skill of her units.

* ClingyJealousGirl: Asaka doesn't appreciate when Ren takes Misaki's hand and extend an invitation for her to join Foo Fighters.
* DevotedToYou: As in the original, Asaka is devoted to Ren completely, her hunting for Kai solely due to her wanting to alleviate Ren's boredom.
* DiscardAndDraw: When fighting against Ren [[spoiler:as a [=PSYqualia=] Zombie]], she uses Barking Dragon Tamer and Gun Salute Dragon, End of Stage as the aces of her deck instead of the Golden Beast Tamer and Artilleryman she previously used.
* IgnoredEnamoredUnderling: Asaka has feelings for Ren who doesn't seem to care. He does however value her as both a fighter and as a teammate.
* MsFanservice: She's given no shortage of gratuitous shots highlighting her various curves.
* OhCrap: Her reaction to learning that Kai was the fighter that beat Minami.
* TheSmurfettePrinciple: The only member of [=AL4=] to be female.
* UndyingLoyalty: To Ren.
* YouGottaHaveBlueHair: Dark blue in her case.

A young cardfighter who is the fourth member of Team [=AL4=]. He was the one who took over Kamui's old shop and the former seeks payback against him for that.

He plays a Murakumo deck headlined by Dueling Dragon, ZANBAKU, combining the clan's trademark cloning ability with the additional offense provided by the Accel gift marker and powerful skills that can lock down the opponent's vanguard.

* AdaptationalHeroism: His original version remained a {{Jerkass}} after being kicked out of [=AL4=], going on to lead [[GoldfishPoopGang Team Avenger]]. Here, he honors the rules of the fight and picks up Kamui's cards after losing to Aichi, and [[HeelFaceTurn begins following Aichi around]].
* AdaptationalSuperpowerChange: Kyou plays a Murakumo deck in this continuity instead of the Spike Brothers he used in the original anime or Nubatama like his manga counterpart due to his cards from the manga having originally been printed as Murakumo and kept as such when they were remade for the reboot.
* ButForMeItWasTuesday: He doesn't remember taking over Kamui's old shop.
* DePower: Was deleted by Ibuki, severing his connection to Vanguard.
* DudeLooksLikeALady: Just look at him. In Image 14’s NextEpisodePreview Ren even mistakes him for a girl when Kyou tries to get him to stop calling him "boy".
* DudeWheresMyRespect: He hates that Ren doesn't even remember his name and calls him "boy" despite being in the same team, because he doesn't recognize his skill.
* HeelFaceTurn: After being kicked out of [=AL4=], he initially runs off, but then begins following Aichi around and telling him about other [=AL4=] targets so Aichi can stop them. However, he does so in order to try and learn more about [=PSYqualia=] and see if he can obtain it.
* IGaveMyWord: After losing to Aichi he picks up Kamui's card as promised.
* MesACrowd: His Murakumo deck can call copies of the same card as shown with Million Rat.
* WhiteHairBlackHeart: Kyou has white hair and like other members of Foo Fighters, he is a jerk as evidenced by him throwing Kamui's deck in the air after the latter lost to him. SubvertedTrope after losing to Aichi, as he begins following Aichi around and telling him where to find [=AL4=] members.

!! Minami Kawanami

His deck uses the Megacolony clan and is focused around the Machining units.

* AdaptationalBadass: Marginally. In the manga, Minami ran away before Kai could deal 3 damage to him with Dragonic Overlord and shock him with his gloves. In the anime, he stays for the entire fight and takes the attack before scurrying off.
* AnimalBattleAura: Has a dog-shaped one appear behind him before he fights against Shingo.
* ButtMonkey: Not only does Kai crush him in a vanguard fight and makes him run away, but after being caught by Tetsu and Asaka, he is forced to act as the latter's dog, right down to wearing a collar and being left outside tied to a post.
* {{Cloudcuckoolander}}: After being forced to wear a dog collar by Asaka, he not only begins walking on all fours next to her, he continues acting like a dog even when she isn't around. He even goes as far as to get into a ''barking fight'' with another dog. While he does act like a human later on when acting as a student at Fukuhara, he still has several dog like mannerisms, going as far to sniff his deck for triggers while fighting Suiko, much to both Suiko and Asaka's disgust.
* DirtyCoward: While he has no problem torturing his opponents, when he is about to get his ass kicked by Kai's Dragonic Overload he runs away in fear.
* HazyFeelTurn: He stops invading shops like the rest of the Foo Fighters after Aichi beats Ren, but he still acts like a SmugSnake while in the Fukuhara Cardfight Club, and has made no indication he regrets what he's done.
* SmugSnake: Talks big, but when things go south for him in his duel against Kai, he's quick to run away.
* WhiteHairBlackHeart: An extremely sadistic SmugSnake, who won't hesitate to cut and run when things look too bad for him. {{Downplayed|Trope}} after the Foo Fighters disband and he joins the Fukuhara Cardfight Club. He's no longer a villain, but he's still a SmugSnake and kinda unpleasant.

!!Kiriya Bidou

A member of Foo Fighters stationed at one of the shops Aichi, Kamui and Kyou visit during their "Foo Fighter Hunt". Which clan he uses in this continuity is unknown.

* AdaptationalEarlyAppearance: While Kiriya is mentioned in the manga, he did not appear in the [=PSYqualia=] arc.
* AdaptationalWimp: In the first season of the original series, Bidou was part of Brilliant Stars, the second-ranked team within Foo Fighters and a candidate for moving up to [=AL4=] but who had the misfortune of going up against Aichi with his [=PSYqualia=] active. Here, in this series, he is defeated off-screen by Aichi without him having to use [=PSYqualia=].
* OhCrap: When he realizes that the person he inadvertently told to go away was none other than Ren.

!!Osamu Kishida

A member of [=SL3=], the second strongest group of fighters within Foo Fighters, below only [=AL4=]. Aichi, Kamui and Kyou meet him at cardshop [=GBH=] where Kyou has him fight Aichi in order to test the latter's [=PSYqualia=].

Like Kawanami, he uses a Megacolony deck focused around the Machining units.

* AdaptationalJerkass: In the first series, Osamu was merely a cardfighter who fought Aichi over the last spot in the Shop tournament but wasn't otherwise much of a jerk, or even that notable of a character. Here, he is a member of Foo Fighters, a gang that takes over shops and fights using gloves that inflict electric shocks.
* DePower: The first person shown to have been deleted by Ibuki.
* SmugSnake: Acts dismissive toward both Kyou and Aichi, in spite of always losing against the former.
* WhiteHairBlackHeart: Has white hair and is part of Foo Fighters.

!!Professor O

Another member of [=SL3=]. He is encountered by Aichi, Kamui and Kyou at the Card Heroes shop. He plays a Murakumo deck, featuring Covert Demonic Dragon, Mandala Lord.

* AdaptationalJerkass: His counterpart in the original anime was simply a CombatCommentator. Here, like in the manga, Professor O is part of Foo Fighters.
* PaletteSwap: Of his counterpart in the original series, having white hair and a black outfit instead of black hair and a white outfit.
* VerbalTic: Emphasizes "O" sounds when he speaks.
* WhiteHairBlackHeart: Another member of Foo Fighter with white hair.

!!Kouji Ibuki

A student at Fukuhara High School. Despite being a skilled Vanguard fighter, he refuses to join the school's club, claiming he hates Vanguard. He is also a childhood friend of Kai and Miwa and the one who taught them how to play Vanguard in the first place.

Ibuki plays a Link Joker deck centered around the Deletor units. His deck is spearheaded by his avatar Docking Deletor, Greion which possesses the unique ability to delete the opponent's vanguard, depriving them of their power and skills.

* AdaptationalBadass: {{Play|ingWithATrope}}ed with here. In his more well known anime incarnation, there was no indication of him ever having [=PSYqualia=]. In the original manga where he debuted however, and the V Series takes inspiration from, Ibuki did have [=PSYqualia=].
* CatchPhrase: Ibuki will often declare Delete End just as he's about to win a fight against an opponent whose vanguard has been deleted.
* ChildhoodFriends: He was friends with Kai and Miwa when they were children, and even was the one who first taught them how to play Vanguard.
* DePower: Not him, but rather something he can do to others. His Deletors sever the connection between Vanguards and their units, making them lose all interest and connection with the game, so far subjecting all of Fukuhara to this outside of Ren, Asaka, Kyou, and Rekka. And Kyou is currently his next target.
* EarlyBirdCameo: His child self appeared in a flashback in episode 2 and was shown in the first ending, long before Ibuki made his entrance in the story proper.
* EvilAlbino: Downplayed in this series. His hair is more gray like the Neon Messiah movie, rather than his white hair in the G anime. In addition, unlike the Neon Messiah movie where he was the main antagonist and the UnwittingPawn of Oksizz, here he's a third party thats less evil and more simply a {{jerkass}} aiming to destroy the game itself.
* IconicItem: Ibuki's avatar in this series is Docking Deletor, Greion.
* PsychicPowers: Has [=PSYqualia=] in this continuity.
* RedEyesTakeWarning: His eyes are red and not only is he a strong fighter, but losing to him will cause his opponent's connection to Vanguard to be erased.
* SpannerInTheWorks: Ibuki is completely disinterested in the Destiny Conductor's plans, and even though Ibuki unwittingly brought him to Earth, Ibuki wants nothing to do with him. Best demonstrated when he faces and defeats Suiko, interfering with the Destiny Conductor's campaign at Fukuhara, solely because he found their actions irritating. However, in spite of the above, the Destiny Conductor still believes Ibuki to be an ally.
** Specifically, Ibuki's victory against [[spoiler:Kai]] was seen as a good thing by the Destiny Conductor since it removed a potential threat to his plans but failed to realize that it would anger Aichi, causing the latter to challenge Ibuki which would lead up to [[spoiler:Aichi breaking free of the Conductor's control and defeating Ibuki.]]
* UnwittingPawn: Ibuki believed that the Deletors appeared because he imagined them but the truth is that they were sent over by the Destiny Conductor for his own purposes.
* UsedToBeASweetKid: Ibuki was a shy kid in the past which contrasts his current cold nature.
* VillainousRescue: An unintentional one for Aichi. Right as Kyou is about to force Aichi into a cardfight with the intent of turning him into a [=PSYqualia=] Zombie after Aichi's been forced to fight several Zombies already, Ibuki shows up and forces Kyou to face him instead.
* WildCard: While he was meant to be a pawn of the Destiny Conductor, Ibuki's own goal of destroying Vanguard clashes with the Conductors plans, leading Ibuki to become a SpannerInTheWorks to him. And while he isn't on the Conductors side, he is by no means an ally to the heroes either, as he will not hesitate to Delete any fighter he comes across.

!!Destiny Conductor

An entity who introduces themselves as "the one who commands fate". They took of control of Takuto's body following the latter's loss to Ibuki. They seek to control Vanguard fighters by turning them into [=PSYqualia=] zombies but their motive for doing so is currently unknown.

He plays a Link Joker deck focused on the Starhulk units and spearheaded by his avatar Wandering Starhulk Ruler, Brandt which has the ability to reverse the effects of triggers.

* BigBad: He is this for the High School arc, being responsible for both the [=PSYQualia=] Zombies and Ibuki's actions as he gave the latter the Deletor units.
* DemonicPossession: After Takuto was deleted by Ibuki, his body became an empty shell which the Destiny Conductor then proceeded to take as his own.
* EvilLaugh: Gives one as he introduces himself to Ibuki.
* EvilPlan: A relatively simple one. He seeks to control all Vanguard fighters by turning them into [=PSYQualia=] Zombies. [[spoiler:His purpose for doing so is to facilitate the invasion of Cray by the forces of the Wandering Planet, Brandt by taking advantage of the effects that the vanguard fights done on Earth have on Cray.]]
* IAmNotLeftHanded: If his avatar isn't enough to deal with his opponent, he has the Grade 4 unit Wandering Starhulk Deity, Brandt Ringer.
* MageKiller: Thanks to the skills of his avatar unit, his deck is perfectly suited to defeat [=PSYQualia=] users and is even described as a [=PSYQualia=] Killer by other characters.
* SocialDarwinist: Holds the belief that the "weak" are fated to be the prey of the "strong". Of course, he sees himself [[spoiler:and the rest of Planet Brandt]] as the "Strong".

Fighters who lost to a minion of the Destiny Conductor and were given the power of [=PSYqualia=]. However, they become compelled to seek out other vanguard fighters and defeat them to turn them into [=PSYqualia=] zombies.

Fighters who were turned into a zombie include Suiko, Rekka, Kourin, Asaka, Kyou, several students from Fukuhara High School and Middle School, Kamui, Morikawa, Izaki, Inenaga, Professor O, Shingo, [[spoiler:Naoki, Aichi and Misaki]].

* DarkHorseVictory: This is how his victory of the Asia Circuit is seen as in-universe since anyone outside of Card Capital or people who know him, only see him mas a strong fighter that came out of nowhere and managed to win the first tournament he participated in.

** It strikes again when he [[spoiler:sees Ibuki delete Kyou.]] This act is so horrible to Aichi that he slams the table [[spoiler:Ibuki and Kyou]] were playing at, and he says that he will ''never'' forgive them for doing that. He even [[spoiler:steals Ibuki's deck so he won't delete anyone else!]]

** wWhen Kyou defeats Kamui and throws his deck to the ground and calls it worthless. He tells Nagisa she doesn't have to pick up Kamui's cards, because it's Kyou's job. Kai uses a Kagero deck, spearheaded by Dragonic Overlord. He uses the latter's ability to restand itself alongside skills that retire opposing rearguard to wreck havoc on his opponent's field.

Her deck of choice, given to her by Shin, features the Oracle Think Tank clan. Its playstyle focuses on increasing the number of cards in her hand to complement the Protect gift marker before finishing the fight with her ace card, Imperial Daughter. She later changes her deck to be more focused on the Magus units with Hexagonal Magus as her new ace.
