* LegacyTeam: They are spiritual successor to an older Team 7, consisting of Naruto, Sasuke, and Sakura, with slightly similar, but not the same, dynamics.

* NoOneGetsLeftBehind: A strong philosophy held by the team. When Mitsuki offers to stay behind to allow Boruto and Sarada to escape from Kuu, Boruto strongly says this to a T.
* RedOniBlueOni: Interestingly enough, both Sarada and Mitsuki function as the Blue Oni to Boruto's Red Oni, though Mitsuki is considerably more calm, cool, and collected than Sarada is, who is a little bit more in the middle.

* TrueCompanions: Although Boruto and Sarada had initially butted head and Mitsuki was a bit awkward to be around, the three grew to be inseparable companions, so much forth that Boruto and Sarada were both ready to risk their rank as ninjas to retrieve Mitsuki after he supposedly deserted the village.

* FighterMageThief:
** Boruto is the Mage, having excellent Ninjutsu, and several nature elements already under his belt despite being fairly younger. However, he's weaker than Sarada in physical strength, and while intelligent and crafty, is not as strategic as Mutsuki, who is very cunning.
** Sarada fills the spot as the Fighter for her team. In terms of Taijutsu, she is physically the strongest, but while being very intelligent, is more focused on raw power compared to her teammates. She also has less showings in Ninjutsu than Boruto, and Mutsuki is much more crafty in battle.
** Mitsuki fills the group's role as the Thief. His cunning personality, combined with ConfusionFu, makes him the craftiest fighter of the three. He has solid Ninjutsu as well, but his overall talents are shown much better put in strategy.

!!Mitsuki
!!!'''Voiced by:''' Ryuichi Kijima (JP), Creator/RobbieDaymond (EN), Óscar Flores (Latin America, ''VideoGame/NarutoShippudenUltimateNinjaStorm4'')
!!!'''Debut:''' ''Naruto Gaiden'' Chapter 1 (Manga), ''Boruto: Naruto the Movie'' (Anime)

[[quoteright:280:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/naruto_mitsuki.png]]

The tritagonist of the Boruto franchise. Orochimaru's son. A genin of Boruto's graduating Academy batch. A former classmate of Boruto and a close school friend to Boruto. A fellow teammate and genin in Team Konohamaru. He transferred to the Hidden leaf Village from the Hidden Sound Village.
----
* ADayInTheLimelight: Kishimoto wrote a short chapter to reveal the origins of Mitsuki.
* TheAce: Mitsuki doesn't make a point of showing it very often, but his abilities may very well be the strongest of the new generation of Konoha shinobi. He was explicitly designed [[spoiler: to be genetically perfect by Orochimaru]]
* AnimalBattleAura: His version of Snake Sage Mode surrounds him with etherial serpents. His Snake Thunder jutsu also manifests as a serpent made of lightning.
* AttackAnimal: He makes liberal use of summoned snakes like his father before him.
* ArtificialHuman: Revealed to have been [[spoiler:artificially made by Orochimaru. Later revealed he can't survive on food alone, and lives on different types of medicine probably prescribed to him.]]
* BlowYouAway: Not only makes use of Wind Release jutsu in general but his SignatureMove is to exhale gale-force winds to... Well, [[ExactlyWhatItSaysOnTheTin blow stuff away.]]
* BlueAndOrangeMorality: Usually PlayedForLaughs. He's far less socially hindered than most examples but his thought process and values are definitely a little out there. Considering who raided him, what do you expect? Best exemplified by his behavior in sparring matches, training exercises and the chunin exams, where he is more willing than most to use excessive and dangerous methods against opponents, albeit without malice.
* BlueIsHeroic: His attire consists of a loose-fitting two-toned light and dark blue kimono jacket with billowing sleeves.
* BrutalHonesty: While not confrontational, he freely speaks his mind in any situation.
* ChildProdigy: Though little is made of Mitsuki's skills compared to the flashier Boruto and Sarada, his powers are even greater then theirs thanks to his senjutsu.
* CombatMedic: Although he hasn't been shown healing anyone other then himself, the data stats in the Boruto manga states that Mitsuki has three stars in medical ninjutsu (note that Sarada does not have medical ninjutsu in her arsenal despite being Sakura's daughter).
* ContrastingSequelProtagonist: The show's counterpart to Sasuke who is disarmingly nice and cheerful, but has much creepier powers and a far more alien mindset. He also serves as something similar to early ''Shippuden'' Sai, being the pale-skinned third wheel of the group--although he is far more TheSocialExpert (except when [[TheComicallySerious it would be funnier for him to screw up big time]]).
* DeadpanSnarker: He seems to be a master of this.
* DissonantSerenity: Outside his backstory, Mitsuki is almost comically unflappable never losing his composure in even the most stressful circumstances.
** Shown rather eerily during his match with Iwabee, where his face remains calm and neutral as he strangles Iwabe while Shino tries prying him off.
* ElementalPowers: He has both [[BlowYouAway Wind]] and [[ShockAndAwe Lightning]] nature chakra and can use them both through his Breakthrough and Snake Thunder jutsu. He is also proficient in [[DishingOutDirt Earth]] style techniques which he mostly uses to [[FastTunnelling tunnel]] underground for surprise attacks.
* FaceDeathWithDignity: In Episode 6, after freeing [[spoiler: Shino]] from being [[DemonicPossession possessed]] by a shadow spectre after dragging him down into a lake and then placed him back on land, he starts drowning in the lake due to using too much chakra and just accepts his fate until Boruto and later [[spoiler: Shino]] came to his rescue.
* FighterMageThief: Fills the groups role as the Thief. His cunning personality, combined with ConfusionFu, makes him the craftiest fighter of the three. He has solid Ninjutsu as well, but his overall talents are shown much better put in strategy.
* FingerlessGloves: In addition to his outfit, he wears black long fingerless gloves.
* ForeignExchangeStudent: An interesting case. He is a ''transfer'' student from Otogakure, not an exchange one. Also, unlike the trope's usual examples, he is the tritagonist of the Boruto franchise and not just a secondary or minor character. The foreignness is emphasized when he states in episode 35 that he took permission from [[spoiler:his parent Orochimaru, the Leader of the Hidden Sound Village]] to stay in Konoha and become a ninja there instead of going back to Otogakure after graduation from Academy.
* GodzillaThreshold: One of Mitsuki's stipulations for staying in the Leaf Village is that he is not to publicly reveal that he is a Sage, but when the Otsutsuki attack and Boruto is danger Mitsuki decides to risk it [[spoiler: only for Urashiki to steal his senjutsu and hospitalize him before he could activate Sage Mode]].
* HandHidingSleeves: Sneaky sleeves likely for surprise for when he extends his arms to attack.
* HistoryRepeats: [[spoiler:He leaves the Leaf Village just as Sasuke did, but unlike Sasuke, Mitsuki left to find out who he is, not for power.]]
* HornedHumanoid: When using Snake Sage Mode a single horn emerges from his forehead.
* InnocentlyInsensitive: Sometimes Mitsuki doesn't know that his words could hurt other people, but since he still is learning [[spoiler:how to be human]], he doesn't really get why.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: He's considerate of others' feelings and tries to help them. However, that doesn't mean he's going to be nice about it, as Chocho found out.
* JumpedAtTheCall: He gets excited at the prospect of becoming a ninja upon graduation.
* LikeFatherLikeSon: He shares several physical similarities with Orochimaru. Surprisingly is that he displays persuasive skills similar to Orochimaru as well. Shown when he convinces Boruto to participate in the mission to escort Katasuke and the ninja tech weaponry to a lab, Mitsuki is able to push all the right buttons using the emotional weight of Boruto's vow to support the Hokage and the protection of his loved ones to persuade him to go with the mission. Something similar Orochimaru was capable of but Mitsuki isn't as twisted and dark.
* MathematiciansAnswer: When Sarada asks whether his one known parent is his mother or father, Mitsuki responds with "Yes."
* MeaningfulName: Mitsuki is derived from the words "Mi" meaning Snake and "Tsuki" meaning Moon. This of course is a reference to both his father Orochimaru and his moon motif to contrast Boruto's sun motif. The character for the "Tsuki" part used to use the word for "Vessel" before a MeaningfulRename in his DayInTheLimelight.
* MellowFellow: Mitsuki is almost always calm and laid back even in the most trying situations.
* MysteriousStranger: Every description of him in Naruto media talks about how mysterious he is.
* NecessarilyEvil: Mitsuki will kill if he feels it is the best option to avoid tragedy, but he takes no joy in it.
* NewTransferStudent: Transfers to Konoha's Ninja Academy from Otogakure in episode 5 of Boruto anime.
* NoHoldsBarredBeatdown: Gives one to Iwabee during an academic sparring session by putting the cocky older genin in a [[ChokeHolds vicious hold]] that even [[CombatReferee Shino]] couldn't break up. In his defense, Iwabee ''did'' say it would be [[ExactlyWhatItSaysOnTheTin no-holds barred]], not realizing how far [[BlueAndOrangeMorality Mitsuki]] would take it. Boruto's scolding is the only thing that gets him to back off.
* OffscreenMomentOfAwesome: In the exam to become a genin, Mitsuki begins to activate [[spoiler:Sage Mode]] for a one on one duel with Shino before the scene changes, when they are back on screen the area is entirely decimated and the fight has concluded.
* PerpetualSmiler: Granted that he's by Boruto's side and he's not in danger, Mitsuki is always often seen with a big smile on his face.
* PragmaticHero: As noted above under NecessarilyEvil, Mitsuki is often the first to resort to lethal force among his teammates if he deems it necessary, being fully willing to murder [[spoiler:his own classmate, Sumire]] if it meant protecting the whole of the Leaf Village from destruction and tragedy.
* RazorWind: Mitsuki's use of the Wind Scythe jutsu is noticeably different from how Temari uses it since he lacks her giant folding fan.
* RubberMan: He can use the Soft Physique Modification ninjutsu to extend his limbs like rubber. This is a clue to his [[spoiler:parent's identity, the skill being a signature piece of Orochimaru's arsenal]].
* ScaledUp: He has mastered Snake Sage Mode.
* SecretTestOfCharacter: [[spoiler:Orochimaru and his older "brother" put him through one to see if he had become [[ClonesArePeopleToo more than a simple clone]]. [[TakeAThirdOption Mitsuki not only rejected both of them to find his own path]], he also activated [[SuperMode Sage Mode]] in the process. Orochimaru and his brother were pleased with the outcome.]]
* ShipperOnDeck: In the ''Boruto'' anime, Mitsuki states at two different times that Boruto and Sarada "make a good couple" and had on various occasions commented that the two "get along very well".
* TheReveal: In an incredibly nonchalant manner, Mitsuki reveals to the shock of his teammates that he is the son of [[spoiler:Orochimaru. Whether Orochimaru is his [[GenderBender mother or father]] is left ambiguous but in truth Orochimaru is a TrulySingleParent and Mitsuki is lab grown from an embryo.]] In contrast, in the anime [[spoiler:Mitsuki's identity is revealed by Naruto to a group of different people with Boruto and Sarada listening in, shocking everybody]].
* TheRunaway: [[spoiler:Mitsuki inexplicably flees Konohagakure, and was considered a traitor.]]
* TheSmartGuy: His stats show that he is the smartest in Team Konohamaru and the second smartest of the six behind Shikadai.
* TheSneakyGuy: Fittingly for his snake motif, Mitsuki excels in espionage and sneak attacks.
* TheSocialExpert: He knows when a sarcastic remark -or speech- is in order and when it's best to just leave people alone so they can talk uninterrupted. Luckily, he's a much better social expert than Sai, a fellow white skinned DeadpanSnarker.
* SquashMatch: Defeats Iwabee in ''seconds'', without sustaining any damage himself.
* StealthHiBye: Has a tendency to unexpectedly show up and chip in on conversations, even when he's nowhere to be seen beforehand.
* StepfordSmiler: Mitsuki loves to smile, quite often in fact.
* TheStoic: Unlike Boruto and Sarada, he doesn't show much emotion. In fact, he seems to only have two emotions: neutrally serious or pleasantly happy (though it's hard to pinpoint if this is genuine sometimes).
* SummonMagic: Mitsuki can summon snakes to help him fight, track things down or impersonate him as decoys.
* SuperiorSuccessor: [[spoiler: While his overall abilities aren't on par with his father "yet", Mitsuki can already use Sage transformation whereas Orochimaru's body was too weak to use a proper Sage Mode.]]
* SuperMode: Can activate Snake Sage Mode.
* {{Tritagonist}}: Of the Boruto franchise.
* WiseBeyondTheirYears: He is always using the perspective of an adult to judge Boruto, Sarada and even Chocho's actions.
* WolverineClaws: Mitsuki is capable of sharpening his fingernails into claws with ninjutsu for a FinishingMove.
* WhyAmITicking: [[spoiler:Later revealed by Orochimaru that Mitsuki was implanted with a curse mark that would blow himself up if anyone found out about Mitsuki's true origins, killing him on the spot.]]
* YouGottaHaveBlueHair: Mitsuki has tousled pastel blue hair.

* ContrastingSequelProtagonist: The show's counterpart to Sasuke who is disarmingly nice and cheerful, but has much creepier powers and a far more alien mindset.

* InnocentlyInsensitive: Sometimes Mitsuki doesn't know that his words could hurt other people, but since he still is learning [[spoiler:how to be human]], he doesn't really get why.

* MeaningfulName: Mitsuki is derived from the words "Mi" as in Snake and "Tsuki" meaning Moon. This of course is a refrence to both his father Orochimaru and his moon motif to contrast Boruto's sun motif. The character for the "Tsuki" part used to use the word for "Vessel" before a MeaningfulRename in his DayInTheLimelight.

[[quoteright:200:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/boruto_uzumaki.png]]

The protagonist of the Boruto franchise. Naruto and Hinata's son. Born shortly after his parents wedding and the eldest child of the Uzumaki Family. Boruto used to look up to his father when he was very young but soon his admiration changed to resentment when Naruto was appointed Hokage. Due to the Hokage's heavy workload, Naruto found himself unintentionally neglecting his family, causing Boruto to lash out with pranks to get his father's attention. Boruto ended up hating the Hokage's job and makes it known that the Hokage is something he NEVER wants to become, causing some friction with his teammate Sarada, who DOES admire the position and wishes to become it someday. After the events of his own movie, Boruto eases up on his father and comes to understand the hardships of Hokage, thus restoring his happy relationship with Naruto again.

Currently a genin in Team Konohamaru. As far as ability goes, he proves to be much more talented compared to his father, but unlike him, he doesn't really like to train and doesn't really want to be acknowledged by anyone. This makes him rather unmotivated to train and progress, which all changes after Momoshiki's attack on Konoha. Now, Boruto's dream is to become as strong as his teacher Sasuke and protect his home from the shadows.

The protagonist tritagonist of the Boruto franchise. Naruto and Hinata's Orochimaru's son. Born shortly after his parents wedding and the eldest child A genin of the Uzumaki Family. Boruto's graduating Academy batch. A former classmate of Boruto used to look up to his father when he was very young but soon his admiration changed to resentment when Naruto was appointed Hokage. Due to the Hokage's heavy workload, Naruto found himself unintentionally neglecting his family, causing Boruto to lash out with pranks to get his father's attention. Boruto ended up hating the Hokage's job and makes it known that the Hokage is something he NEVER wants a close school friend to become, causing some friction with his Boruto. A fellow teammate Sarada, who DOES admire the position and wishes to become it someday. After the events of his own movie, Boruto eases up on his father and comes to understand the hardships of Hokage, thus restoring his happy relationship with Naruto again.

This makes him rather unmotivated to train and progress, which all changes after Momoshiki's attack on Konoha. Now, Boruto's dream is to become as strong as his teacher Sasuke and protect his home the Hidden leaf Village from the shadows.Hidden Sound Village.

* AccidentalKiss: Subverted. In episode 38, Sarada has quick reflexes and thus Boruto kissed the sole of her shoe instead of her mouth.
* TheAce: Boruto is quite popular among his peers and is able to make friends wherever he goes. This along with his ChildProdigy status and BlueBlood made everyone believe that he will follow in the footsteps of his father and paternal grandfather into becoming a Hokage.
* AdaptationDyeJob: His eyes are blue in the manga, but are colored lavender in ''The Last''. This is corrected for his own movie debut.
* AdaptationalIntelligence: Zigzagged. The anime portrays him as TheAce, a fairly good tactician, and one of the best fighters of the Leaf Village. But in order to adapt the ''Boruto'' movie as faithfully as possible, his characterization is altered to make him less intelligent and strategic.
* AdvertisedExtra: Even though he's the one taking central stage of promotional material (to a degree of sharing a cover with Luffy and his father), Boruto only made a small cameo in the entirety of ''Naruto Gaiden''. Even the last chapter's preview still advertises the Gaiden as "Naruto and Boruto's" story when that's nowhere close to truth.
* AlmightyJanitor: Kakashi acknowledges even before graduating from the academy that Boruto is powerful enough to be a chunin.
* AlwaysSecondBest: All of his accomplishments are overlooked because of his relation to Naruto. He vows to surpass his father to prove his worth.
* TheApprentice: He becomes an apprentice to his father's old rival, Sasuke Uchiha.
* ArrogantKungFuGuy: Being the best fighter in class, Boruto often look down on his opponents, even against those who are more experience than him.
* AscendedExtra: He went from being a LastEpisodeNewCharacter to the protagonist of his own spin-off movie. It goes even further with a new manga and anime starring him!
* AttentionWhore: Much of his pranks are done so as to receive undivided attention from his extremely busy father, Naruto. Also, much of his early reasons for his admiration of Sasuke also stemmed around his desire to outshine his father as a shinobi while not becoming a Hokage.
* BadassFamily: A member of the Uzumaki clan and related to the Hyuga clan.
* BareFistedMonk: He inherited his mother's fighting style, the Gentle Fist, which references the Eight Trigrams in its moves; it's even based of a real martial art called Baguazhang.
* BeCarefulWhatYouWishFor: He asks Sasuke to make him his apprentice so that he could discover his father's weakness and surpass him. Well, he does find Naruto's weak spot: himself. Naruto is so preoccupied with his son's safety he turns his back on the [[BigBadDuumvirate people]] attacking him.
* BeneathTheMask: Under his SmugSuper attitude, there lies a insecure little child who just wants to be [[WellDoneSonGuy acknowledged by his father]] and to be seen [[IAmNotMyFather outside of his shadow]].
* BerserkButton: He does not like the Hokage title, job, or anything to do with it. Instead, he would rather pass the Hokage title to Sarada in the upcoming future.
* BigBrotherInstinct: He's absolutely this towards his little sister, Himawari, whom he deeply adores. He even threatens his father to '''not''' miss her birthday.
* BigManOnCampus: Boruto is a noted troublemaker but remains a popular leading figure in the academy because he is so talented and personable.
* BlueBlood: His mother, Hinata Hyuga, is the former heiress of the Hyuga clan, one of the four noble clans of Konohagakure.
* BlowYouAway: Without even trying, Boruto can use his wind element chakra to infuse his Rasengan, a feat his paternal grandfather failed to accomplish and his father could only do after training with thousands of clones.
* BodyguardCrush: Implied with Sarada. As part of their ShipTease, Boruto intends to be her bodyguard when she becomes Hokage.
* BookDumb: {{Inverted|Trope}}. His intelligence in the data stats show that he is not the brightest in Team Konohamaru (he is fifth place in intelligence out of the six ninjas), but Boruto is portrayed as incredibly book smart is hampered by his brash and often thoughtless way of doing things. In fact, he has the top grades in his class.
* BrattyHalfPint: Back when he was an academy student, Boruto was a brash and troublesome kid who loved to pull pranks in search of attention, just like his father was.
* BreakTheHaughty: Due to never experiencing any of the hardships his parents had gone through during childhood, Boruto becomes quite arrogant and doesn't understand the concept of teamwork well. He even resorts to [[spoiler:cheating if it means the task is done easier, whether at video games or at life.]] Following the events of his own movie, Boruto is humbled by his experiences and becomes a better person as a result.
* BreakOutTheMuseumPiece: He dons his father's old jacket and Sasuke's scratched forehead protector.
* BrilliantButLazy: While Boruto is a ChildProdigy, unlike his parents at his age, he lacks their work ethic. His friends call him out on this, with Shikadai and Inojin calling out Boruto's use of cheats at video games, and Sarada stating that Boruto can be a brilliant shinobi and team-player if he would just get his head in the game.
* CallingTheOldManOut: Subverted. He yells at Naruto for ''seemingly'' caring more about the Hokage position than he does his own family and wishes that he never had him as a father. However, he doesn't realize that Naruto ''is'' trying his best to spend time with his family and he ''does'' love his family very much, but being the leader of a country leaves him little time to spare.
* CantCatchUp: He feels this way about the expectations put on his shoulders; at the beginning of the Naruto Gaiden, he was shown very excited to become a ninja, but during the timeskip between Gaiden and the movie, he seems to be completely lost due to his father's shadow over him and doesn't even want to take part in Chuunin Exams.
* CharacterDevelopment: In his own spin-off movie, Boruto get ''a lot'' of this.
** He learns ''exactly'' how important his father's job as Hokage and why he is so busy.
** He learns the importance of working hard as well as teamwork.
** He grows to admire Sasuke's shinobi way for what it is rather than just appearing cool.
* CheatersNeverProsper: Initially, Boruto doesn't see the problem with cheating to get ahead of the curve in either video games or [[spoiler:utilizing high-level Ninjutsu]], but when he finally gets his father to notice him, he begins to crack under the pressure and [[CantGetAwayWithNothing winds up getting caught]] and [[HumblePie humiliated]] in front of the whole [[spoiler:Chunin Exam Stadium, which includes the other four Kages, his teammates, and his entire family. Ouch.]]
* ChildProdigy: Something he ''definitely'' didn't get from [[IdiotHero his]] [[InadequateInheritor parents]] but from his namesakes; his maternal cousin and paternal grandfather. In addition to being a Straight-A student with little effort, he is already able to use Lightning, Water, and Wind Release at will as well as the Shadow Clone technique and invents new techniques on the fly, such as his trademark Boruto Stream. He is no slouch at Taijutsu either, being able to effectively use the Hyuga's Gentle Fist Style despite his lack of a Byakugan. ''Then'' there's the fact that he is able to infuse his Rasengan with elemental natures, which the Fourth Hokage, a renowned genius in his own right, failed to do and Naruto only accomplished by practicing with thousands of clones but still injured himself in the process.
* CluelessChickMagnet: Sumire admits she has an obvious crush on him while Sarada has a lot of ship tease with him as well and just like his parents before him, he has no clue about their feelings towards him.
* ColorMotifs: Boruto is represented by the color pink, the color between his father's orange and his mother's purple.
* CompositeCharacter: An older Boruto takes on the appearance and traits of both [[spoiler:Kakashi and Obito. Like Kakashi, he now sports a vertical scar over his right eye and keeps the eye closed until he needs to activate his MagicalEye. Like Obito, all of his powers from his Bloodline Limit only resides in one eye, and the ''right eye'' no less.]]
* ContrastingSequelMainCharacter: To Naruto.
** Whereas Naruto grew up without a family and thus acted out as a means for attention and affection, Boruto has a family and acts out to get attention from his father. Similarly, Naruto's lifelong dream was to become Hokage, while Boruto has no interest in it. Lastly, Naruto was a weak ninja as a kid, where's Boruto is a ChildProdigy like his late paternal grandfather.
** Naruto did have the Nine Tails, but had a difficult time accessing it when he was still a child. He wasn't naturally TheAce and had to work hard to reach his goals and get there. Boruto, meanwhile, has TheGift but would rather slack off and even cheat to get ahead. This extends to their philosophy as people who fight. Where he disapproves of the Hokage's responsibility to prioritize TheNeedsOfTheMany over those close to him, he chooses to instead never forsake his friends and family.
* CoolBigBro: He is very sweet and doting to Himawari and even ''threatened'' his father to not miss her birthday.
* DarkIsNotEvil: Boruto wears a black tracksuit and despite his brattiness, he's a brave and selfless individual when the chips are down.
* DeadGuyJunior: His name (which can be read as "Bolt") was inspired by his mother's cousin Neji, whose name translates to "screw".
* DeathGlare: Gives a fantastic one to [[spoiler:Ao]] in chapter 22 of ''Boruto'' manga.
* DeclarationOfProtection: In ''Boruto: The Movie'', Boruto makes a promise to one of his friends. Specifically, Boruto tells Sarada that he intends to be her bodyguard when she becomes Hokage.
* DemotedToExtra: For ''Naruto Gaiden'', which was advertised to be the story of him and Naruto but revolves around Sarada instead.
* DependingOnTheWriter: In ''Boruto: Naruto the Movie'' he was established as a poor team-player, and as someone who's always looking for the easy way, even willing to cheat both in games and in life. In ''Boruto: Naruto Next Generations'' he's the nucleus of his class, he outright refuses to cheat in a card game with Himawari's "souvenir" on the line, and passes the written part of the Graduation exam by answering the questions on his own, and acts surprised when his classmates reveal they all cheated, because they were outright encouraged to do so.
* {{Determinator}}: During his Academy years, Boruto showed shades of this in dire situations whereas he was otherwise the epitome of BrilliantButLazy. Once he TookALevelInJerkass following graduation, he steadily looses those traits and even resorts to cheating during the Chunin Exams despite his vast talent. It was only following the traumatic events and the humiliation he faced during that arc that he becomes this. His fight with [[spoiler:Ao]] cements that he has completely become this.
* DitzyGenius: Boruto is the only member of his class not to realize the written portion of his exam was meant to be too difficult to solve to encourage the class to cheat without getting caught to test a ninja's information gathering skills. Boruto however got a perfect score on the exam because he found the test ''easy''.
* ElementalPunch: He has a lightning elemental punch but it wasn't powerful enough to demagnetize Shinki's Iron Sand on its own.
* EnergyBall: Unlike his predecessors,[[note]]Exempting Naruto lobbing the Rasenshuriken with Sage Mode.[[/note]] Boruto is actually capable of ''throwing'' his Rasengan.
* EstablishingCharacterMoment: The epilogue starts with him trying to pull off a prank.
* FacialMarkings: He inherited Naruto's fox whiskers, but only two on each cheek.
* FamilyThemeNaming:
** Boru'''to''' shares his last syllable with his father, Naru'''to''' and his paternal grandfather, Mina'''to'''.
** In Japan's preview show segment, Kishimoto confirmed that Boruto (which is how the English word "Bolt" is pronounced in Japanese) was named directly after his late uncle Neji's AffectionateNickname, which meant "screw" in Japanese. Not only was this name Naruto and Hinata's [[MeaningfulName tribute and remembrance towards Neji]], but this also fits in with Naruto's spiral motif.
* FastballSpecial: His Boruto Stream attack involves using his Shadow Clones to give him a NitroBoost with their Wind Release: Gale Palm, however much like Kakashi's use of Chidori/Raikiri, he's moving too fast to read his opponents move, leaving him vulnerable to a counter. To compensate for this, he and Mitsuki can use the same technique to launch Sarada at an enemy, who's Sharingan negates this weakness.
* FighterMageThief: When Boruto, Shikadai, and Inojin play their favourite RolePlayingGame together, Boruto is an offense-focussed [[ThePaladin Light Warrior]] dual-wielding a light sword and a cursed one, effectively acting like [[TheSneakyGuy the Rogue]]. In terms of his team itself, Boruto is the Mage, having excellent Ninjutsu, and several nature elements already under his belt despite being fairly younger. However, he's weaker than Sarada in physical strength, and while intelligent and crafty, is not as strategic as Mutsuki, who is very cunning.
* FoolishSiblingResponsibleSibling: Unlike his [[SpoiledSweet sister]], Boruto pulls pranks, disrespects their father, and is quite arrogant.
* ForceAndFinesse: He is the Finesse using the graceful Gentle Fist style of martial arts to Sarada's SuperStrength Force.
* FragileSpeedster: According to the stats of all the New Era shinobi, Boruto is the fastest, but his strength is 4th place out of the six ninjas. His melee stats rank three out of five stars as well. He's the fastest in Team Konohamaru, but the weakest in strength.
* FutureBadass: Boruto's manga opens with what appears to be a FlashForward to a BadFuture where [[spoiler: Naruto is dead/missing/gone (it's ambiguous), Konoha is wrecked and Boruto, who's picked up a nasty scar over one eye along the way, is about to throw down with the guy that did it.]]
* GenerationXerox:
** Like his father, Naruto:
*** He pulls pranks to get attention just like Naruto did.
*** Like how Naruto bears a striking resemblance to Minato but got his face and eye shape from Kushina, Boruto bears a striking resemblance to Naruto but got his face and eye shape from Hinata.
*** He's the shortest ninja of Team 7, just like how Naruto was.
*** He also calls his parents the same way Naruto did with his ("Tou-chan" for Dad, "Kaa-chan" for Mom).
*** In the dub of ''The Last'', he shares the same voice actress as Naruto.
*** Similarly to Naruto, he is in Team 7 with two teammates associated with the colors red and blue (Sarada being red like Sakura and Mitsuki being blue like Sasuke).
** Like his mother, Hinata:
*** Like Hinata, Boruto wishes to be acknowledged by his father.
*** Like Hinata, Boruto has a younger sister with the Byakugan.
** He resembles his uncle Neji and paternal grandfather Minato with his prodigy status. With Neji, he even shares the same type of relationship with Naruto.
** Similar to Asuma in his youth (at least according to him), in which he didn't get along with his father being the Hokage and being overshadowed as ninja by his Hokage father.
* GiftedlyBad: Boruto is proud of his nonexistent artistic talent, happily trying to get his ideas across through sketches that wouldn't look out of place in a pre-school. He doesn't seem to realize this at all even after Sai and Inojin (who are both artists by trade) call him out on it.
* GoodScarsEvilScars: An older Boruto now sports a scar on his right eye that leads into his forehead protector. Even a piece of his eyebrow is missing.
* GuileHero: Boruto's battle with [[spoiler:Ao]] definitely establishes him as this, if his ChildProdigy status hadn't already done that.
* TheHeart: Is this to his entire Academy class. This point is particulary emphasised by those who appeared for the Academy graduation exams alongside him in Episode 37. He is definitely considered this by his teachers and mentors for his peers.
* HereditaryHairstyle: PlayedWith. Boruto has spiky, blonde hair like his father and grandfather, but in a different style: His hair is wavy which flares out on the sides and back, is shaped like a leaf, and has an ahoge.
* HeroesPreferSwords: Wields Sasuke's katana in the flashforward.
* HeroicLineage: He's the son of [[TheHero Naruto]] and [[LadyOfWar Hinata]], both of whom are veterans of the Fourth Shinobi World War and have [[Anime/TheLastNarutoTheMovie saved the world on other occasions]]. His father is also the reincarnation of Asura Ōtsutsuki, the younger son of the Sage of Six Paths; and his mother was dubbed the Byakugan Princess by Hamura Ōtsutsuki, the Sage of Six Path's brother.
* HeterosexualLifePartners: Shikadai is introduced as his best friend. Later, he gains a close bond with Mitsuki.
* HiddenDepths:
** Boruto has shown to be quite perceptive, quickly realizing other people's true intentions from the look in their eyes, and is considerate of other people's feelings.
** Though he may not be as intelligent as his classmates or know much about the ninja world, he is actually the top in his class.
* HiddenHeartOfGold: In regards to his father; while on the outside he is openly disrespectful towards him, in reality Boruto deeply cares for and loves his father and just wants his acknowledgement.
* HumblePie: In his movie as part of his character development. He leaves his arrogant ways and accepts the importance of hard work.
* {{Hypocrite}}: For all his talk that his father doesn't care about other people's feelings, Boruto acts selfishly most of the time in the movie until his CharacterDevelopment.
* IAmNotMyFather: He explicitly does not want the thing that is his father's stated goal for most if not all of his initial series. Ironically, he takes on many of his father's old traits such as desperately looking for attention as well as looking after his friends.
-->"I don't even want to become...the Hokage!!"
* IdiotHair: Has a small ahoge between his bangs and his back spikes.
* InnocentlyInsensitive:
** At the beginning of ''Gaiden'', Boruto complains how his father is never around in front of Sarada, whose father is never around since her birth.
** Boruto fails to understand his father's hardship during his youth and thinks that without Minato, Naruto has a good childhood. He also misinterprets that Naruto is the type of person who doesn't care of others.
* InvisibleMeansUndodgeable: Boruto's Vanishing Rasengan goes invisible before striking making it difficult for enemies to predict it coming.
* ImpossiblyCoolClothes: His genin outfit from the movie as well as the anime counts as this. His teen outfit ''definitely'' counts as this.
* ImprobableHairstyle: He has three long bangs that hang over his forehead and the rest of his hair flares out on the sides and back, and has an ahoge on the top of his head, which resembles the stem of a leaf.
* {{Irony}}:
** Boruto's childhood was the polar opposite of Naruto's, having everything the latter could have ever wanted as a child: a number of friends, excelling in the Ninja Academy, the respect of the village and, above all, a loving family. Despite all this, he ends up doing the exact same thing his father once did (namely, vandalizing the Hokage monument) for similar reasons (a lack of attention).
** In the videogame he plays with Shikadai and Inojin he's [[ThePaladin a Light Warrior]], a LawfulGood [[IncorruptiblePurePureness goody-two-shoes]] character that protects the rest of the party, won't tell a lie to save his life and, in most [=RPGs=], refuses monetary rewards. Boruto wins the game by cheating and is not big on teamwork.
* ItsAllAboutMe: His attitude throughout his movie and in the anime following his graduation till upto the Chunin Exams arc is this: he has become incredibly self-centred, as he feels [[WellDoneSonGuy that he has to be the best to get out from under Naruto's shadow.]] This has even impacted his performance as a ninja; despite being a ChildProdigy coming from two famous clans he's lazy and normally cheats to get what he wants, as well as is a troublemaker. He's also impulsive and reckless. It takes all the trauma he suffers in the movie to snap him out of it and make him become a better person.
* IWishedYouWereDead: Yells at his father that he would rather have had no parent than a father like him. [[BeCarefulWhatYouWishFor Of course, he ends up regretting it.]]
* JerkassHasAPoint: While Boruto intially fails to understand how important Naruto's job as Hokage is, he is not ''entirely'' wrong that Naruto's frequent absence has caused Himawari and Hinata a good deal of emotional pain. Boruto eventually grows to accept his father's frequent absence. What he does not ''absolutely'' accept is Naruto breaking his promise to him by sending only a shadow clone, which disappears anyway, on Himawari's birthday party and not turning up in person.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: As disrespectful and bratty Boruto is to his father, he is shown to be well-mannered and polite to most people, but not to the point of being formal like his mother. And underneath the attitude he projects, deep down he really loves his father.
* LamarckWasRight: Boruto and Himawari have Naruto's fox whiskers even though they are not a genetic trait, though Naruto also had fox whiskers prior to becoming a jinchuriki as a result of one of his parents being Kurama's host.
* LaserGuidedKarma: As noted in CheatersNeverProsper, [[spoiler: using an illegal device]] bites him right in the butt.
* TheLancer: Later, as Boruto would follow Sasuke's path in protecting the Hokage in a shadow, Boruto also sees and entrusts Sarada as a future leader to inherit the Hokage title.
* TheLeader: Played straight during his Academy years where he was regarded as such. Despite not being the class representative, Boruto nearly always took the charge, whether for pranks or fun activities. He was also the Field Trip Manager during the School Trip Arc. Slowly subverted as he turns into TheLancer for Sarada's TheLeader during his early genin days. His Lancer status is reinforced by his dream which is play support to Sarada's Hokage role in the future.
* LikeFatherUnlikeSon: At first glance Boruto is the exact copy of his father. However as we get to learn more about his character, differences start to appear. First of all Boruto has the complete opposite of early childhood Naruto had, living with two [[DotingParent Doting Parents]] and [[TheCutie a little sister]]. He's also a ChildProdigy, ''very unlike'' his BoisterousWeakling father. And compared to how Naruto was at his age, Boruto is well mannered and socially adjusted. He [[{{Tsundere}} resents]] his father and has no respect for him (Naruto always respected Minato, no matter what) or the Hokage title ''nor'' he has any will to pursue his father's path.
* LineageComesFromTheFather: {{Zig Zagged}}. While most of his features come from his father, he is shown using the Hyuga clan's Gentle Fist Style.
** [[AllThereInTheManual The novelization]] of ''Boruto: The Movie'' states that his large chakra reserves are from both Naruto and Hinata's blood, but mainly towards the latter due to the Hyuga clan being the most prominent in Konoha.
** [[spoiler: Subverted in the ''Boruto'' manga where Boruto was able to sense a projection of Momoshiki due to Hinata's blood inside of him]].
* LockedOutOfTheLoop: Due to not accompanying Sarada when she meant to meet her father, he has no idea who Orochimaru is.
* LoveTriangle: He is in the center of one between Sarada and Sumire, [[ObliviousToLove not that he can tell]].
* MagicalEye: Boruto has a mysterious eye power known as the Jogan which gives him [[DetectEvil the ability to detect malicious intent]], [[ThinkingUpPortals the power to cross dimensions]] and AuraVision, implicitly of a different type than what the Byakugan can detect, although it later developed the power to [[VeinOVision see the tenketsu]]. [[PowerIncontinence He has no control over its activation]] but can wield it on command by the time the ColdOpen takes place.
* MagneticHero: Like his father before him, Boruto has gathered a number of close friends who might otherwise have been his enemies, like Iwabee, who started out as an antagonist and Mitsuki, who outright defies Orochimaru's orders because he's interested in seeing where Boruto's path leads, or been just another face in the crowd, like Denki.
* MakingASplash: As a prodigy, Boruto can use water jutsu without a source with his Surging Sea technique.
* MasterApprenticeChain: He is a student of Konohamaru, to whom his father was a BigBrotherMentor to. In his titular movie, he strong-arms his father's best friend/rival, Sasuke, into training him too.
* MesACrowd: Like his father, he knows the shadow clone jutsu.
* MommasBoy: He has a soft spot for his mother. Part of the reason why he relents in relaying through Sarada the lunch his mother made in ''Naruto Gaiden'' is that his father receiving it would make his mother happy.
* MoralityPet: He instinctively does his best to prevent Mitsuki from engaging in casual brutality.
* MouthyKid: A difference from his father, his overly cocky attitude and prodigy status makes him being able to raise his voice against authority.
* MyGodWhatHaveIDone: When he realizes how his actions, cheating in particular, have made things worse for him and those he cares about, especially his father.
* NitroBoost: His Gale Palm ninjutsu boosts his speed allowing him to do his Boruto Stream attack.
* NinjaBrat: Just like dear old father.
* NormalFishInATinyPond: While Boruto might be the best fighter in his class, he is still an inexperienced and naive rookie who had recently graduated from the Academy and has no idea how tough life is even in an era of peace. Being overconfidence, he thinks he has the chance to take on more experienced such as Kakashi and Mirai and the only reason he won was mostly because of his underhand tactics, teamwork or his opponents holding back their full strength against him. When he encountered Momoshiki the first time and all his attacks are absorbed, Boruto become helpless for the first time in his life, shocked to see an opponent on a completely different level than him about to kill him.
* OedipusComplex: His initially poor relationship with Naruto and bratty attitude stems from a desire for his father's undivided attention, as well as his desire to surpass him.
* OhCrap:
** What Boruto thinks to himself when his father is [[spoiler:accidentally knocked out by his little sister Himawari and she starts chasing him through the house.]]
** Has another one when [[spoiler:Momoshiki absorbs all of his techniques from his elemental wrist device and it runs out of energy.]] He gets an even bigger one when [[spoiler:Momoshiki fires them all back at Naruto, after augmenting them a bit.]]
* ParentalTitleCharacterization: He often refers to Naruto as "old man" (''oyaji'') due to feeling neglected by him. However, he also uses the more affectionate ''tou-chan''.
* PerformanceAnxiety: Boruto is shown to have the skills and talent to overcome the obstacles he faces in the chunin exams with his ninjutsu and shuriken skills, but his desire to look impressive in front of his father causes his confidence to waver and he instead relies on the Science Ninja Tool rather then his own abilities.
* PinkHeroine: A ''very exceptional'' male example. Boruto's main color scheme has black and white as a base with pink being his signature color. This is a case of ValuesDissonance for the western audience as in Japanese culture, pink is the traditional colour of ''masculinity'', the opposite of Western Values for pink. The color is often associated with the cherry tree, symbolising a young samurai who had died at their prime. Considering the dark implications of flashforward where [[spoiler:a sixteen years old sword-wielding Boruto is facing an enemy who implies that he killed '''Naruto''']] as well as Momoshiki's prophecy [[spoiler:which tells him that he will loose everything he holds dear]], this trope is very symbolically foreboding in nature.
* PintSizedPowerHouse: Of his class only Denki is smaller and even in the flash forward where he is sixteen Boruto is still noticeably smaller then even his father at the same age according to the anime's model sheets.
* PowerGlows: Possesses black tattoos that glow when powering up, akin to Sage Mode. His right arm glows blue while Kawaki's left arm glows red.
* PowerPalms: Boruto only rarely attacks with a closed fist, preferring to use the open palmed martial arts his mother's clan is famous for.
* ThePrankster: The epilogue stars him trying to pull off a prank.
* PrincelyYoungMan: Of the SpoiledBrat type, he's considered to be "The Ouji" of Konoha. He uses his status to get his hands on the latest technology advancements and cheats for gameplays. This makes him the obvious target of Katasuke's manipulations to promote his latest ninja tool.
* TheProtagonist: Of the Boruto franchise.
* ProtagonistTitle: '''Boruto:''' Naruto Next Generation .
* TheProudElite: Don't look at him badmouthing his father; he's very proud of the blood he carries (half-Hyuga, half-Uzumaki) to a degree coming off SmugSuper and accepts it all way through at the end of his movie.
* PunnyName: His name is how the [[BilingualBonus English word "Bolt" is pronounced in Japanese]]; so while "Boruto" is a play on his father's name, the "Bolt" meaning (as in either the building material or a bolt of lighting) is both referencing his late uncle Neji's name and his chakra nature.
* RebelPrince: Boruto is considered as the natural candidate for the Hokage mantle by those around him and is constantly reminded of it. He does NOT want to become a Hokage and loudly states it as such.
* TheRival:
** To Sarada, just like their fathers were for each other. Also to his own father, and it comes to no surprise that he turns to his father's old rival for apprenticeship. Unlike their respective parents in their youth, though, she and Boruto are more in friendly terms.
** There also appears to be a rivalry between Boruto and Shikadai, given how much emphasis is placed on their big fight in the Chunin exams.
* RoyalBlood: He's looked to as the definite candidate for Hokage position due to his elite status. His mother is the princess of the Hyuga's main family, whereas his father is the son of legendary Fourth Hokage.
* RoyalBrat: Son of the Byakugan Princess and the Seventh Hokage, yet isn't above pulling pranks and causing trouble all around.
* SharedFamilyQuirks: Boruto is afraid of ghosts like Naruto. He also shares the same verbal quirks as his father and paternal grandmother, with his being "dattebasa."
* SignatureMove: The Boruto Stream has had a place in all of Boruto's major fights in the anime.
* ShockAndAwe: He has affinity to Lightning and from Sasuke has learned Uchiha-style shurikenjutsu which allows him to infuse his throwing stars with lightning and can also use his Thunderclap Arrow technique to electrify his own water jutsu in a combination attack.
* SiblingYinYang: With Himawari. Unlike him, his sister is nice, considerate and very mature for her age. Also while Boruto is always complaining about their father being busy at work, Himawari is much better at dealing with it.
* ShipTease: Naturally, he and Sarada have a bit going on throughout his movie.
* SmugSuper: Unlike his [[BoisterousWeakling father]] at his age, Boruto is acting smug ''because he's good at what he does''.
* SpellMyNameWithAnS: "Bolt" or "Boruto"? The [[http://www.boruto-movie.com/ official movie website]] for ''Boruto: Naruto the Movie'' uses "Boruto" while Viz's official manga translation originally used "Bolt", but later switched to "Boruto" as well.
* SpoiledBrat:
** His AttentionWhore behavior towards his father mostly stems from his spoiled childhood, as [[ItsAllAboutMe he wants his father all to himself]].
** Sasuke even points out his clean and new-looking mission gear to make this point; his parents spoiled him for the entirety of his early childhood so much so that he has no idea about any hardships previous generations faced.
* StockShonenHero: {{Subverted|Trope}}. He is Naruto's son and [[StrongFamilyResemblance looks near-identical]] to his father (complete with spikey hair, albeit in a different style and more combed downward), however he has a [[LikeFatherUnlikeSon completely different personality]]. His clothes are black with some pink, in contrast to the primary colours of his father. He's a powerful ChildProdigy, even before getting into the ninja academy, but is an overly cocky SmugSuper at the same time. Boruto can be knuckleheaded but is not an IdiotHero, instead being BrilliantButLazy, and he isn't quite the AllLovingHero his father is. He doesn't seem to be a BigEater but [[TrademarkFavoriteFood does like eating burgers a lot]].
* StrongFamilyResemblance: Looks near-identical to a younger Naruto, except for the rounder facial features and eye shape that he inherited from Hinata. LikeFatherLikeSon mixed with ItRunsInTheFamily, since Naruto himself looks near-identical to Minato but has Kushina's face and eye shape.
* SuperiorSuccessor: Unlike his [[BoisterousWeakling father]] at his age, he's a ChildProdigy. He even invokes this by making it his goal to surpass his father.
* SuperWristGadget: Boruto initially wields an experimental ninja tool that [[MagicFromTechnology allows him to cast]] [[BlowYouAway all]] [[PlayingWithFire five]] [[MakingASplash basic]] [[DishingOutDirt elemental]] [[ShockAndAwe ninjutsu]] without using his own chakra by [[PowersAsPrograms loading special scrolls]] with ninjutsu sealed inside them. [[spoiler:Naruto disapproves of such a device, and it gets Boruto disqualified from the Chunnin Exams as a result. Later, when Momoshiki attacks the stadium, all of Boruto's attacks with the device merely strengthen Momoshiki and seeing the trouble such a device brought into his life, Boruto discards it with disgust.]]
* SymbolMotifClothing: As a tot, he wore the symbol of the Hyuga clan on the front of his jacket, and while he was in the Academy, he wore a jacket with a bolt on the back, and finally when he became a genin, he wears a jacket with a spiral printed on it. He also wears a bolt as a necklace.
* TakeAThirdOption: Mitsuki observes and remarks that finding unconventional solutions and making options of his own is one of Boruto's talents. This especially stands out to him when Mitsuki's logic concludes that [[TheNeedsOfTheMany someone has to die in some situation]], and then Boruto goes and finds a way to save everyone.
* TerribleArtist: He sometimes doodles in order to explain something. However, his skills as an artist stupefies everyone that sees it.
* ThouShaltNotKill: A firm believer in this. When [[spoiler:Sumire, the culprit behind the possessions]] threatens to destroy the entire Leaf Village, he refuses to allow Mitsuki to take the lethal route even though it would be the fastest way to resolve the issue. Also, with [[spoiler:Ao despite the fact that the latter was trying to kill him and his comrades]]. Averted when it is shown that he has no qualms about killing Momoshiki.
* TookALevelInBadass: Boruto in his young adult years now sports [[spoiler: a cape similar to his father's, a scarred eye similar to Kakashi's, a katana similar to his master Sasuke and, most important of all, his very own doujutsu, inherited from his mother.]]
* TookALevelInJerkass: He gets worse and worse each new day after his father's promotion to Hokage just prior to him entering the Academy. He improves by the time he graduates but steadily grows reckless and egoistic. It takes [[spoiler:his disqualification in the Chunin Exams and his father nearly dying at Momoshiki's hands to finally humble him.]]
* TookALevelInKindness: [[spoiler:After being caught cheating, removed from the exams, and seeing his father nearly die, Boruto finally understood the meaning of being a shinobi and respects the title of Hokage and his father.]]
* TouchOfDeath: He uses the Gentle Fist style of taijutsu.
* TrademarkFavoriteFood: While his father's favorite food is ramen, Boruto's favorite food are hamburgers.
* {{Tsundere}}: He puts a tough guy act to hide his softer side, especially towards his father, but everyone knows he's a lovable MommasBoy with BigBrotherInstinct deep inside. It's practically lampshaded by the way he addresses Naruto. When he's happy, he calls him "tou-chan" ("dad" or "daddy"), a very affectionate term, but when he's angry with his father and feels neglected by him, he switches to "kuso oyaji" ("shitty old man"), a ''very'' [[CaptainObvious rude and disrespectful term]].
* UnderestimatingBadassery:
** Seeing his father being clumsy most of the time has give Boruto the impression that his father (or the Hokage title in general) isn't as strong as everyone claimed he is. When he finally sees his father in his JinchĹŤriki mode for the first time, Boruto is shocked to see how powerful Naruto really is.
** Even when against more experience opponents such as Kakashi, Boruto still thinks he had a chance against them.
* UsedToBeASweetKid: ''The Last'' has Boruto openly showing Naruto love and respect. Come ''Boruto: The Movie'', he's grown quite bratty and disrespectful towards his father.
* VerbalTic: End his sentences with "dattebasa", like how Naruto and Kushina end theirs with "dattebayo" and "dattebane", respectively.
* WarriorPrince: He's the son of the Seventh Hokage and the Byakugan Princess, so close enough to a prince, and is training to be a ninja for the Warrior part.
* WeakButSkilled: Boruto is physically the weakest of his team and unlike his father he cannot make a large amount of clones to overwhelm enemies, but his skill with the Gentle Fist and maneuvering with the few clones he has gives him the top score in his class in hand to hand combat.
* WellDoneSonGuy: Boruto is the epitome of this trope in story. Having a great childhood with his family--''especially'' in comparison to [[DarkAndTroubledPast the hell that both Naruto and Hinata went through when they were his age]]--Boruto's life turns upside down when Naruto is appointed as Hokage. Losing his hero's attention and feeling distant to him, Boruto does everything to spend time with his father, even acting out just so he could be lectured by him. On the other hand, his accomplishments are overlooked due to being the son of Naruto, which makes him feel inadequate and insecure, even though he's a prodigy. During the Chunin Exams, [[spoiler: when he receives a "Well Done" from his father for passing the test, ''he is moved to tears''. This desperation to keep his father's acknowledgement drives him to cheat. And it goes without saying, [[GoneHorriblyWrong everything ends in a fiasco]].]] It's even lampshaded by the movie's theme song, "Diver", which revolves around Boruto's desire to be acknowledged by Naruto. However, it puts blame on both sides: the father treats his son like a child, while the son acts tough towards his father to hide his frustration and insecurity.
* WhatTheHellHero: Boruto receives a lot of these in ''Boruto: Naruto the Movie'' for his selfishness and/or arrogance.
** Gets a subtle one from Shikadai and Inojin for cheating in their co-op videogame. Shikadai refuses to accept his "borrowed" stats because, unlike Boruto, he spent hours leveling up his character behind Temari's back.
** At the same time, he gets a violent one from Sarada and a non-violent but equally firm one from Mitsuki because his refusal to participate in the Chunin Exams bars both his team-mates from getting a promotion.
** Gets one from his father due to cheating in the Chunin Exams. Unlike the above, this one ''finally'' makes an impact because Naruto is deeply hurt by it, looking like ''he'' was the one caught cheating.

The deuteragonist of the Boruto franchise. Sasuke and Sakura's daughter. A genin of Boruto's graduating Academy batch and a former classmate of Boruto. She was the youngest member of Boruto's class as well as it's honors student. She knows Boruto since infancy because their parents are friends and is a close childhood friend to him but she also thinks he's an idiot. Living alone with her mother Sakura, Sarada was rather unmotivated in her early ninja life until she met her father Sasuke. She has a huge admiration for the 7th Hokage and wants to be Hokage herself. She uses mainly lightning attacks with taijutsu inherited from Sakura. Sarada is the youngest current user of the Sharingan. Currently a genin in Team Konohamaru.
----
* AccidentalKiss: Subverted. In episode 38, Sarada has quick reflexes and thus Boruto kissed the sole of her shoe instead of her mouth.
* AdaptationalAngstUpgrade: In relation to her [[TraumaticSuperpowerAwakening Sharingan awakening]]. In ''Naruto Gaiden'', her Sharingan first appears during her sprint to the tower Sasuke is in, and it was commonly interpreted that hers was a uniquely shown case of a Sharingan awakening due to a positive emotion -- excitement at being able to meet her father -- rather than the standard traumatic fare. The anime's AdaptationExpansion for this arc shows Sakura and Shizune discussing how Sarada's had the Sharingan long before that scene takes place, and that it was likely due to the pain brought about by Sasuke's absence.
* AffectionateGestureToTheHead: Sakura gives her this when she was younger, in the same fashion that Itachi used to do to Sasuke. [[spoiler: At the end of ''Gaiden'', Sasuke himself does this to Sarada.]]
* AlliterativeFamily: '''Sa'''rada shares her first syllable with her father, '''Sa'''suke, and her mother '''Sa'''kura.
* AscendedExtra: In the epilogue, Sarada is a LastEpisodeNewCharacter along with the rest of the new generation. Then she becomes TheProtagonist of the ''Naruto Gaiden'' miniseries.
* AwesomeByAnalysis: In episode 30, Sarada realizes: [[spoiler: "Running an electrical current above a fixed level in water causes ionization." Then dropped an Explosive Tag which combined with the ionised water resulted in an explosion.]] She also in episode 38 [[spoiler: uses her Sharingan to try and find Mirai's weakness while Boruto fights the older kunoichi, but [[SubvertedTrope that attempt fails]].]]
* BadassAdorable: Sarada has pretty much won most of her fights and is adorable all the way.
* BadassBookworm: Again, she's kicked plenty of bad guy butts and is very studious. She's the best new gen character in theoretical knowledge. In the movie, she's the only one who read all the books in the book series and it helped her team to get pass the first round.
* BadassFamily: The daughter of Sasuke, the last surviving member of the Uchiha clan, and Sakura, the protégé of the Fifth Hokage and the world's best medical ninja.
* BlueBlood: Sarada is the heiress to the Uchiha clan, one of the four noble clans of Konohagakure.
* BrainyBrunette: From a young age, Sarada demonstrated hints of being extremely intelligent for her age. Like her mother, she has a keen talent for observation and analyzing situations, which she uses to come up with the most rational solutions. Like her father, she has critical thinking habits, showing a keen and analytical mind, which aids her in battle to better read an enemy's attack. Although Boruto is considered the most advanced in ninjutsu, her theoretical knowledge is the best of her year.
** In ''Boruto the Movie'', Sarada mentioned she had read the book series mentioned in Sai's quiz, and was surprised to know that there was a fifth book, only to realize that the question was a sham and that there was no fifth book, which helped her team advance. Note that Boruto and Mitsuki turned to her after Sai read out the question, which notes that they acknowledge Sarada's intelligence and knowledge of the book.
** During the Field Trip arc, she beats Buntan Kurosuki through the use of science, using both the latter's lightning release jutsu and her own copying of it, combined with an illusion from the Sharingan, to fill the cave they're in with raw hydrogen gas (via electrolysis of the water around them) to amplify her bomb-tagged kunai to take Buntan out.
* BrilliantButLazy: Like Boruto, Sarada is a naturally gifted ChildProdigy, but she never devoted herself to her training out of disinterest. That is, until she was inspired to become the Hokage by Naruto in ''Naruto Gaiden'', after which she began to receive comments about how uncharacteristically fired up about training she has become.
* CallingTheOldManOut: She calls out her father for his complete absence in his daughter's life.
* CharacterDevelopment: In ''Naruto Gaiden'', she goes from an depressed, apathetic ninja dealing with her family dysfunction to a happy, loving daughter determined to become Hokage.
* ChildProdigy: Her friends think so given that she's an Uchiha, though she certainly doesn't believe she's special. She quickly shows she has her mother's strength and her father's Sharingan skills though.
* ColorMotifs: Sarada represents the color red.
* CombatClairvoyance: Her Sharingan gives her this power, giving her extreme accuracy for her SuperStrength as well as excellent dodging skills.
* CombatStilettos: Wears some pretty tall heels as part of her ninja outfit in the manga, although the anime has them toned down.
* ContrastingSequelMainCharacter:
** Whereas Sasuke was antisocial and tended to dismiss people who tried to get close, Sarada is polite and sociable, if not a little reserved. Their motivations are also different: Sasuke was motivated to avenge his family, while Sarada is motivated to discover her own family.
** In regards to her mother, both of them are kunoichis who specialize in using precise chakra for SuperStrength. However, while Sakura started off as the resident FauxActionGirl and TheLoad and kept {{Zig Zagging|Trope}} in and out of both tropes throughout the entire series, alternated between being nice and being incredibly mean to Naruto, and was obsessed with Sasuke, Sarada starts off as a full-on warrior with zero interest in boys so far (save some mild ShipTease with Boruto), and while she and Boruto may argue, they have a grudging respect for one another.
* CulturedWarrior: Is very well read and enjoys books regarding history. In the movie, she's the only one who read all the books in the book series and it helped her team to get pass the first round.
* CurtainsMatchTheWindows: Has black hair and onyx (blackish) eyes, traits she inherited from her father.
* CuteBruiser: She may be cute, but she can knock you out. She's also physically the strongest in Team Konohamaru and of the New Era ninja, as her strength stat is a whopping 160.
* TheCutie: She was this as a tot. [[WhenSheSmiles Her smile]] is something she definitely got from Sakura since Sasuke doesn't smile much.
* DaddyDNATest: She resorts to this in her desire to know who her real birth mother is. Suigetsu procures for her a sample of DNA, which is supposedly Karin's, for the test, and it comes up a match. [[spoiler: Turns out it was her own umbilical cord Sarada had matched with. Karin, who had been the midwife, had held onto it.]]
* DangerouslyShortSkirt: Gets this as part of her new outfit in chapter 11 of the manga.
* DeadpanSnarker: Sarada's sense of humor matches her cynical demeanor.
* DeathGlare: When Naruto suggests they head out to rescue Sakura after Sarada sees evidence she isn't her real mother, she shoots him a livid glare accentuated by her Sharingan and snaps that she has no reason to go save someone who isn't even her mother and that she doesn't care about the people who've lied to her for her whole life.
* DeclarationOfProtection: After realizing the love she has for her mother deep down, she mentally declares that she will protect Sakura as she protects her from Shin Uchiha by showing off her inherited chakra control.
* {{Deuteragonist}}: Of the Boruto franchise.
* DramaticIrony:
** She finally meets her father after most of her life not seeing him... only for Sasuke to assume she's an enemy thanks to her having unwittingly awakened her Sharingan.
** When Sarada argues with Naruto, her rant parallels her father's words when he defected from the village. Naruto takes note of this and is able to successfully convince her to not follow in her father's footsteps.
* DudeMagnet: It is stated that Sarada is popular among her male classmates, just like how Sasuke was a ChickMagnet when he was her age.
* FamilyOfChoice: Naruto helps her realize that what really matters is the connection between people. Sakura may not be related to Sarada by blood, but for all intents and purposes, she ''is'' her mother, and Sarada wants to save her. [[spoiler:While the revelation that she's actually Sakura's daughter is proven, it still helps Sarada realize to love her family.]]
* FatAndSkinny: She is lithe and agile compared to the strong, chubby Chocho.
* FighterMageThief: Fills the spot as the Fighter for her team. In terms of Taijutsu, Sarada is physically the strongest, but while being very intelligent, is more focused on raw power compared to her teammates. Sarada also has less showings in Ninjutsu than Boruto, and Mutsuki is much more crafty in battle.
* ForceAndFinesse: The SuperStrength Force to Boruto's graceful Gentle Fist style Finesse.
* ForeheadOfDoom: She has inherited her mother's, which is one of the clues to her identity in the start of the epilogue.
* GenerationXerox:
** Like her father, Sasuke:
*** Like Sasuke who resembles his mother, Sarada resembles her mother. Their hairstyles are also similar with both Sakura and Sarada's bangs parting towards the left.
*** Like Sasuke, she has an affinity for using weapons, particularly Shuriken and blades.
*** She had expressed her want to leaving the village in a fit of anger and frustration like Sasuke, but the difference was that Naruto managed to convince her not to.
*** Sarada also wears her headband on her forehead, much like how Sasuke did in Part I.
** Like her mother, Sakura:
*** Like Sakura, she has an affinity for red clothing.
*** She also uses her fists like Sakura.
* GoalInLife: After ''Naruto Gaiden'', Sarada now aspires to becoming Hokage.
* HeroicBSOD: The results of the DNA test left her utterly depressed and furious to the point where she refused to help save Sakura and seemed ready to follow in her father's footsteps by abandoning the village. Fortunately for her, Naruto manages to snap her out of it.
* HeroicLineage:
** She is the daughter of Sasuke Uchiha and Sakura Haruno, the descendant and reincarnation of Indra Ōtsutsuki and the Leaf's most skilled medic, respectively.
** Much like her uncle, Itachi Uchiha, Sarada is very loyal to the village and is a firm believer in the Will of Fire, making her one of the few members of the Uchiha clan to not fall victimized to the Curse of Hatred.
* HeroWorshipper: Naruto is Sarada's idol and a large motivation for entering the Chunin Exams as a rookie is a chance to showcase her skills in front of him.
* HeterosexualLifePartners: Has a close relationship with [[BigFun Chocho Akimichi]].
* HotBlooded: Sarada like her mother has a wicked temper although she is more liable to lash out verbally rather then physically.
* IconicOutfit: Her genin outfit from ''Naruto Gaiden'', which is also seen in ''Boruto: Naruto The Movie'' as well as from episode 20 onwards in the ''Boruto'' anime, counts as this for her.
* {{Irony}}:
** Sarada is nearsighted when her Sharingan is not active, requiring corrective lenses.
** One that crosses over with Boruto is that, by the end of ''Gaiden'', their motivations are more or less opposite to that of their fathers'. Sarada declares [[spoiler: that she will one day become Hokage]], whereas Boruto has no interest in becoming Hokage and wants to surpass his father instead. This becomes doubly ironic when you consider that, because of this, Sarada and Boruto's desires are more similar to Naruto and Sasuke, respectively, rather than to their own fathers (though without a lot of the drama and tragedy that those two had to go through).
* ItsAllAboutMe: Considering her father's family as a baseline she can definitely be counted as an aversion, even after awakening her Sharingan.
* {{Kiai}}: Sarada likes to hand out her super punches while screaming out her mother's CatchPhrase "SHANNARO!"
* KnightInSourArmor: Sarada comes across as deeply bitter and cynical for her age, likely as a result of her confusing-at-best family situation. That being said, she also comes across as much friendlier and more likeable than her father was at her age, so it evens out.
* {{Kuudere}}: She's very direct and can be pretty harsh towards others especially to Boruto. However, She has her sweeter moments.
* TheLeader: Of her team. Most of all, due to Naruto's influence as Hokage helping her though her troubled youth without her actual father in her life. Boruto later considers her a worthy future Hokage candidate, something her father could not have achieved. With her as a future leader, the Uchiha's dark reputation became clearer.
* LikeParentLikeChild: While Sarada has a number of differences with her parents, she did gain a few of their character traits.
** Sarada and Sasuke -- Like her father, she is generally aloof and reluctant to acknowledge certain people unless she thinks that they deserve it. She also, like her father, has critical thinking habits, showing a keen and analytical mind, which aids her in battle to better read an enemy's attack.
** Sarada and Sakura -- She has a similar fierce temper and recklessness like her mother, as well as her mother's studiousness. Like her mother, she can analyze an enemy's attack on the battlefield.
* LineageComesFromTheFather: She physically and emotionally looks like a mini female Sasuke, complete with Sharingan. [[spoiler: By the end of ''Naruto Gaiden'', she's acting more like Sasuke did before the Uchiha massacre, reservedly cheerful.]]
* LittleMissBadass: Chapter 9 of the ''Naruto Gaiden'' miniseries shows this perfectly when she uses her Sharingan and SuperStrength powers in tandem to first kill the teleporting eye creature and then to bury a large number of Shin Jrs.
* LockedOutOfTheLoop: Part of her issues with her DisappearedDad is that she knows her father isn't around, but she doesn't know ''why''. Her desire to know leads her make her own assumptions, and take drastic measures in finding out, with tragic results.
* LuminescentBlush: Gives one as a reaction to Boruto's DeclarationOfProtection to her in ''Boruto the Movie''.
* MagicalEye: She inherited the Sharingan from her father which has the powers of AuraVision, TrueSight, HypnoticEyes, PowerCopying and CombatClairvoyance.
* MamasBabyPapasMaybe: {{Inverted|Trope}}. Chapter 1 of ''Naruto Gaiden'' shows us Sarada finding out about Karin. With Sakura unable to answer even basic questions about Sasuke and Shizune either unable or unwilling to answer any questions about Sarada's birth, she's naturally starting to second-guess her relation to Sakura. [[spoiler:Despite the story teasing that she's not Sakura's daughter, she is proven to be Sakura's legitimate daughter in the end.]]
* MeaningfulName: Her name does NOT mean 'salad'. Instead, her name is derived from Saraswati, the Hindu goddess of knowledge, which is an insight to her intelligence.
* {{Meganekko}}: Her specs give off this impression. Although she's distinctly more hot headed and outspoken than the typical example, Sarada still has her sweeter moments that help put her in this category.
* MesACrowd: She copied Boruto's Shadow Clone jutsu with her Sharingan in the anime, but finds it too exhausting to use with her sharingan.
* MySpeciesDothProtestTooMuch: Doesn't get why everyone's so gung-ho about being a ninja, and she doesn't really care to be one either. [[spoiler:After traveling with Naruto, she wants to become a great Hokage like him.]]
* NerdGlasses: Sarada wears thick rimmed glasses that give her a bookish look. In her introduction in the final chapter of Naruto her {{nerd}}y outfit and glasses helped hide her identity until her scene with her mother.
* NiceGirl: Unlike both of her parents, Sarada has good manners in her childhood. She is never over-confident nor is she obsessed with boys; instead, she is modest and treats her classmates nicely.
* NotSoDifferent: Even though she says that what Boruto does is stupid, she considers that they're similar.
* TheOjou: An interesting case. Sarada is the sole living scion as well as the heiress to the now nearly extinct but still very much prestigious Uchiha clan which is one of Konohagakure's four noble clans. She is a child version of a ProperLady and has shades of being a YamatoNadeshiko. While she does her chores on her own, the current Uchiha residence, [[spoiler: both the one destroyed by Sakura and the one rebuilt afterwards]], while not a BigFancyHouse, is still quite large and spacious with a large yard and garden. She is treated normally by her friends and classmates though there are instances such as a throwaway comment by Chocho as her being stuck-up due to being an Uchiha in the Gaiden manga while Shikadai refers to her as 'Sarada-sama' once in the anime. Interestingly, it is her ''enemies'' who are treat her as being a naive ojou more than her peers, notably Buntan Kurosuki.
* PlayingWithFire: Sarada uses her clan's signature jutsu -- Fire Style: Fireball Jutsu. As expected, Sasuke taught it to her.
* {{Protectorate}}: To Boruto. In ''Boruto: Naruto the Movie'', Boruto states that he will support her dream to be Hokage and he will protect her no matter what.
* {{Qipao}}: She wears a Chinese style martial arts top similar to Sakura's after becoming a ninja.
* RedEyesTakeWarning: The Sharingan turns her irises red. Naruto assumes she awakened them due to believing Sakura wasn't her birth mother.
* RedIsHeroic: Wears red and she's the heroine for Naruto Gaiden; Sarada wears a red sleeveless qipao shirt.
* TheRival:
** To Boruto, just like their fathers were for each other. But unlike their respective parents in their youth, [[FriendlyRivalry she and Boruto are on more friendly terms]].
** In a way, Konohamaru. After episode 24 of the anime, they compete to be the Eighth Hokage.
* ScaryShinyGlasses: Flashes these on occasion, usually after witnessing one of Boruto's shenanigans.
* SecurityCling: She holds on to Naruto's jacket when Shins Sr and Jr attack the tower, looking terrified.
* ShesGotLegs: In the manga, Sarada's DangerouslyShortSkirt and high heels accentuate her legs for {{fanservice}}.
* ShipTease: Naturally, she and Boruto have a bit going on throughout the movie.
* ShockAndAwe:
** In ''VideoGame/NarutoShippudenUltimateNinjaStorm4'', her Ultimate Jutsu combines her father's Chidori with her mother's Chakra Enhanced Strength.
** In the anime's Field Trip arc, it's revealed that some of the first jutsu she copied using her Sharingan, outside of Boruto's shadow clone jutsu, are lightning release jutsu from Buntan.
* SilkHidingSteel: Don't be fooled by her stylish bookworm persona. She is not afraid to take on mentally unhinged and bloodthirsty opponents to protect her loved ones.
* SleevesAreForWimps: She wears a sleeveless qipao shirt, similar to what her mother Sakura wore in Part II.
* SnoopingLittleKid: She follows Naruto with the intention of being led to her father, but Naruto was aware that she was trailing him.
* StalkerWithACrush: She's shown stalking Boruto throughout the epilogue of the ''Naruto'' manga. It's made clear in the ''Boruto'' movie and novelization that she has a crush on him.
* StrongFamilyResemblance: She looks a lot like a female Sasuke, but her facial features and eye shape are similar to Sakura's.
* SugarAndIcePersonality: Sarada comes across as very serious, cynical and snarky (reasonably so, given her dysfunctional family), but also friendly and compassionate.
* SuperStrength: At an unspecified point in time, Sakura started to train Sarada in the art of refined chakra control. Like her mother, she was adept at this, which allows her to use chakra-enhanced strength to devastating effects. [[spoiler:She was able to single-handedly defeat dozens of Shin clones with a single punch, decimating the area in the process.]]
* TagalongKid: After she follows Naruto out of the village and is attacked by Shin, he allows her to come along so that she can meet her father. He also feels she'd be safer with him than if he sent her back, now that she's being targeted.
* TearsOfJoy: When finally meeting her father, she cries with happiness. Upon receiving his DeathGlare however, it turns into TearsOfFear.
* TellMeAboutMyFather:
** Invoked nearly word for word during the ''Gaiden'' chapter. She asks Sakura this, starting from whether he wore glasses to asking why she has never seen him. When she starts asking whether she is really her daughter, this angers Sakura, who punches the ground in the process. However after seeing Sarada in tears, Sakura understands that she is simply starved for a father's affection so she tells her the importance of what he is doing, and assuring her that he will be back.
** Naruto proves to be more forthcoming in this regard, though he's still glossing over Sasuke's past. The fact that Naruto does even that much leaves her immensely happy and driven to see him... until she says that he has trouble recognizing her.
* ToBeAMaster: Sarada takes up Naruto's old standard at the end of ''Naruto Gaiden'': To become Hokage.
* TookALevelInIdealism: ''Naruto Gaiden'' starts with Sarada questioning why there are such things as ninjas in the first place and has little interest in it. By the end, her new goal is to become Hokage.
* TraumaCongaLine: In short order, Sarada begins doubting Sakura is her real mother, finds evidence that is the case, but no-one will talk to her about it. She goes looking for her father, whom she's never met, and is attacked by a strange boy with a Sharingan. When she finally meets her father, he nearly kills her thinking she's an enemy and then coldly dismisses her questions. She then watches Sakura get abducted by the bad guys, then finds evidence that she's not even her real birth mother. When Naruto suggests they go save her mother, Sarada rounds on him with her Sharingan activated and snaps that Sakura isn't her mother and she has no reason to care about people who lied to her whole life. However, Naruto manages to calm her down and keep her from following in her father's footsteps. [[spoiler:In the end, she learns that Sakura was her real mother after all, recovers, forms a better bond with her family, and becomes a happier person.]]
* TraumaticSuperpowerAwakening: Averted. Unlike most Uchiha, who awaken their Sharingan through survival instinct, rage, or a traumatic experience, Sarada activates her Sharingan for the first time out of joy and excitement when she is finally going to meet her father. Naruto assumes she awakened them due to believing Sakura wasn't her birth mother.
* TrueSight: Her Sharingan allows her to see through and break out of visual illusions.
* TurnOutLikeHisFather: Naruto takes note of how much Sarada resembles Sasuke and jokes that it would become uncanny if she awakened the Sharingan. When he thinks she's done so after learning of her "true" parentage, he talks her down from unwittingly following in her father's footsteps by abandoning the village out of anger.
* WellDoneDaughterGirl: Due to not seeing her father in several years and seeing all her peers enjoying time with their fathers, Sarada has craved for her father's affection her entire life and was able to awaken her Sharingan due to her anticipation of meeting him.
* WhenSheSmiles: Despite being cynical and snarky, Sarada has shown to have ''very'' heartwarming and adorable smiles. This is another trait that her [[TheStoic father]] didn't have at her age after the Uchiha Massacre.
* YamatoNadeshiko: Of the prim-and-proper and polite variety.

----
* AccidentalKiss: Subverted.
* ContrastingSequelMainCharacter: To Naruto.
* FamilyThemeNaming:
* GenerationXerox:
* HiddenDepths:
-->"I don't even want to become...the Hokage!!"
* IdiotHair: Has a small ahoge between his bangs and his back spikes.
* InnocentlyInsensitive:
* {{Irony}}:
* OhCrap:
* TheRival:
* SpoiledBrat:
* UnderestimatingBadassery:

* ContrastingSequelMainCharacter:
* DramaticIrony:
* GenerationXerox:
* HeroicLineage:
* {{Irony}}:
* TheRival:
* ShockAndAwe:
* TellMeAboutMyFather:

[[folder:Mitsuki]]
!!!Voiced by: Ryuichi Kijima (JP), Creator/RobbieDaymond (EN), Óscar Flores (Latin America, ''VideoGame/NarutoShippudenUltimateNinjaStorm4'')

----
* TheAce: Mitsuki doesn't make a point of showing it very often, but his abilities may very well be the strongest of the new generation of Konoha shinobi.
* ArtificialHuman: Revealed to have been [[spoiler:artificially made by Orochimaru.]]
* BlowYouAway: Not only makes use of Wind Release jutsu in general but his SignatureMove is to exhale gale-force winds to... Well, [[ExactlyWhatItSaysOnTheTin blow stuff away.]]
* ADayInTheLimelight: Kishimoto wrote a short chapter to reveal the origins of Mitsuki.
* DeadpanSnarker: He seems to be a master of this.
* DissonantSerenity: Outside his backstory, Mitsuki is almost comically unflappable never losing his composure in even the most stressful circumstances.
* HornedHumanoid: When using Snake Sage Mode a single horn emerges from his forehead.
* OffscreenMomentOfAwesome: In the practical exam to become a genin, Mitsuki begins to activate [[spoiler:Sage Mode]] for a one on one duel with Shino before the scene changes, when they are back on screen the area is entirely decimated and the fight has concluded.
* RazorWind: Mitsuki's use of the Wind Scythe jutsu is noticably different from how Temari uses it since he lacks her giant folding fan.
* TheReveal: In an incredibly nonchalant manner, Mitsuki reveals to the shock of his teammates that he is the son of [[spoiler:Orochimaru. Whether Orochimaru is his [[GenderBender mother or father]] is left ambiguous but in truth Orochimaru is a TrulySingleParent and Mitsuki is lab grown from an embryo.]]
Luckily, he's much of a social expert than Sai, a fellow white skinned DeadpanSnarker.
* StealthHiBye: Has a tendency to unexpectedly show up and chip in on conversations, even when he's nowhere to be seen immediately beforehand.
* TheStoic: Unlike Boruto and Sarada, he doesn't show his emotions much.
* TechnicolorEyes: He has yellow/brown eyes.
* {{Tritagonist}}: Of the Boruto franchise.
* WiseBeyondTheirYears: He is always using the perspective of an adult to judge Boruto and Sarada's actions.
* WolverineClaws: Mitsuki is capable of sharpening his fingernails into claws with ninjutsu for his FinishingMove.
* YouGottaHaveBlueHair: Mitsuki has tousled pastel blue hair.
