* TrueCompanions: Although Boruto and Sarada had initially butted head and Mitsuki was a bit awkward to be around, the three grew to be inseparable companions, so much forth that Boruto and Sarada were both ready to risk their rank as ninjas to retrieve Mitsuki after he supposedly deserted the village.

* TheAce: Mitsuki doesn't make a point of showing it very often, but his abilities may very well be the strongest of the new generation of Konoha shinobi. He was explicitly designed [[spoiler: to be genetically perfect by Orochimaru]]
* AnimalBattleAura: His version of Snake Sage Mode surrounds him with etherial serpents. His Snake Thunder jutsu also manifests as a serpent made of lightning.

Considering who raided him, what do you expect? Best exemplified by his behavior in sparring matches, training exercises and the chunin exams, where he is more willing than most to use excessive and dangerous methods against opponents, albeit without malice.
* BlueIsHeroic: His attire consists of a loose-fitting two-toned light and dark blue kimono jacket with billowing sleeves.
* BrutalHonesty: While not confrontational, he freely speaks his mind in any situation.
* ChildProdigy: Though little is made of Mitsuki's skills compared to the flashier Boruto and Sarada, his powers are even greater then theirs thanks to his senjutsu.
* CombatMedic: Although he hasn't been shown healing anyone other then himself, the data stats in the Boruto manga states that Mitsuki has three stars in medical ninjutsu (note that Sarada does not have medical ninjutsu in her arsenal despite being Sakura's daughter).
* ContrastingSequelProtagonist: The show's counterpart to Sasuke who is disarmingly nice and cheerful, but has much creepier powers and a far more alien mindset. He also serves as something similar to early ''Shippuden'' Sai, being the pale-skinned third wheel of the group--although he is far more TheSocialExpert (except when [[TheComicallySerious it would be funnier for him to screw up big time]]).
* DeadpanSnarker: He seems to be a master of this.
* DissonantSerenity: Outside his backstory, Mitsuki is almost comically unflappable never losing his composure in even the most stressful circumstances.
** Shown rather eerily during his match with Iwabee, where his face remains calm and neutral as he strangles Iwabe while Shino tries prying him off.
* ElementalPowers: He has both [[BlowYouAway Wind]] and [[ShockAndAwe Lightning]] nature chakra and can use them both through his Breakthrough and Snake Thunder jutsu. He is also proficient in [[DishingOutDirt Earth]] style techniques which he mostly uses to [[FastTunnelling tunnel]] underground for surprise attacks.
* FaceDeathWithDignity: In Episode 6, after freeing [[spoiler: Shino]] from being [[DemonicPossession possessed]] by a shadow spectre after dragging him down into a lake and then placed him back on land, he starts drowning in the lake due to using too much chakra and just accepts his fate until Boruto and later [[spoiler: Shino]] came to his rescue.
* FighterMageThief: Fills the groups role as the Thief. His cunning personality, combined with ConfusionFu, makes him the craftiest fighter of the three. He has solid Ninjutsu as well, but his overall talents are shown much better put in strategy.
* FingerlessGloves: In addition to his outfit, he wears black long fingerless gloves.
* ForeignExchangeStudent: An interesting case. He is a ''transfer'' student from Otogakure, not an exchange one. Also, unlike the trope's usual examples, he is the tritagonist of the Boruto franchise and not just a secondary or minor character. The foreignness is emphasized when he states in episode 35 that he took permission from [[spoiler:his parent Orochimaru, the Leader of the Hidden Sound Village]] to stay in Konoha and become a ninja there instead of going back to Otogakure after graduation from Academy.
* GodzillaThreshold: One of Mitsuki's stipulations for staying in the Leaf Village is that he is not to publicly reveal that he is a Sage, but when the Otsutsuki attack and Boruto is danger Mitsuki decides to risk it [[spoiler: only for Urashiki to steal his senjutsu and hospitalize him before he could activate Sage Mode]].
* HandHidingSleeves: Sneaky sleeves likely for surprise for when he extends his arms to attack.
* HistoryRepeats: [[spoiler:He leaves the Leaf Village just as Sasuke did, but unlike Sasuke, Mitsuki left to find out who he is, not for power.]]
* HornedHumanoid: When using Snake Sage Mode a single horn emerges from his forehead.
* InnocentlyInsensitive: Sometimes Mitsuki doesn't know that his words could hurt other people, but since he still is learning [[spoiler:how to be human]], he doesn't really get why.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: He's considerate of others' feelings and tries to help them. However, that doesn't mean he's going to be nice about it, as Chocho found out.
* JumpedAtTheCall: He gets excited at the prospect of becoming a ninja upon graduation.
* LikeFatherLikeSon: He shares several physical similarities with Orochimaru. Surprisingly is that he displays persuasive skills similar to Orochimaru as well. Shown when he convinces Boruto to participate in the mission to escort Katasuke and the ninja tech weaponry to a lab, Mitsuki is able to push all the right buttons using the emotional weight of Boruto's vow to support the Hokage and the protection of his loved ones to persuade him to go with the mission. Something similar Orochimaru was capable of but Mitsuki isn't as twisted and dark.
* MathematiciansAnswer: When Sarada asks whether his one known parent is his mother or father, Mitsuki responds with "Yes."
* MeaningfulName: Mitsuki is derived from the words "Mi" meaning Snake and "Tsuki" meaning Moon. This of course is a reference to both his father Orochimaru and his moon motif to contrast Boruto's sun motif. The character for the "Tsuki" part used to use the word for "Vessel" before a MeaningfulRename in his DayInTheLimelight.
* MellowFellow: Mitsuki is almost always calm and laid back even in the most trying situations.
* MysteriousStranger: Every description of him in Naruto media talks about how mysterious he is.
* NecessarilyEvil: Mitsuki will kill if he feels it is the best option to avoid tragedy, but he takes no joy in it.
* NewTransferStudent: Transfers to Konoha's Ninja Academy from Otogakure in episode 5 of Boruto anime.
* NoHoldsBarredBeatdown: Gives one to Iwabee during an academic sparring session by putting the cocky older genin in a [[ChokeHolds vicious hold]] that even [[CombatReferee Shino]] couldn't break up. * PerpetualSmiler: Granted that he's by Boruto's side and he's not in danger, Mitsuki is always often seen with a big smile on his face.

The protagonist of the Boruto franchise. Naruto and Hinata's son. Born shortly after his parents wedding and the eldest child of the Uzumaki Family. Boruto used to look up to his father when he was very young but soon his admiration changed to resentment when Naruto was appointed Hokage. Due to the Hokage's heavy workload, Naruto found himself unintentionally neglecting his family, causing Boruto to lash out with pranks to get his father's attention. Boruto ended up hating the Hokage's job and makes it known that the Hokage is something he NEVER wants to become, causing some friction with his teammate Sarada, who DOES admire the position and wishes to become it someday. After the events of his own movie, Boruto eases up on his father and comes to understand the hardships of Hokage, thus restoring his happy relationship with Naruto again.

Currently a genin in Team Konohamaru. As far as ability goes, he proves to be much more talented compared to his father, but unlike him, he doesn't really like to train and doesn't really want to be acknowledged by anyone. This makes him rather unmotivated to train and progress, which all changes after Momoshiki's attack on Konoha. Now, Boruto's dream is to become as strong as his teacher Sasuke and protect his home from the shadows.

* AccidentalKiss: Subverted. In episode 38, Sarada has quick reflexes and thus Boruto kissed the sole of her shoe instead of her mouth.
* TheAce: Boruto is quite popular among his peers and is able to make friends wherever he goes. This along with his ChildProdigy status and BlueBlood made everyone believe that he will follow in the footsteps of his father and paternal grandfather into becoming a Hokage.
* AdaptationDyeJob: His eyes are blue in the manga, but are colored lavender in ''The Last''. This is corrected for his own movie debut.
* AdaptationalIntelligence: Zigzagged. The anime portrays him as TheAce, a fairly good tactician, and one of the best fighters of the Leaf Village. But in order to adapt the ''Boruto'' movie as faithfully as possible, his characterization is altered to make him less intelligent and strategic.
* AdvertisedExtra: Even though he's the one taking central stage of promotional material (to a degree of sharing a cover with Luffy and his father), Boruto only made a small cameo in the entirety of ''Naruto Gaiden''. Even the last chapter's preview still advertises the Gaiden as "Naruto and Boruto's" story when that's nowhere close to truth.

He is no slouch at Taijutsu either, being able to effectively use the Hyuga's Gentle Fist Style despite his lack of a Byakugan. ''Then'' there's the fact that he is able to infuse his Rasengan with elemental natures, which the Fourth Hokage, a renowned genius in his own right, failed to do and Naruto only accomplished by practicing with thousands of clones but still injured himself in the process.
* CluelessChickMagnet: Sumire admits she has an obvious crush on him while Sarada has a lot of ship tease with him as well and just like his parents before him, he has no clue about their feelings towards him.

Boruto wins the game by cheating and is not big on teamwork.
* ItsAllAboutMe: His attitude throughout his movie and in the anime following his graduation till upto the Chunin Exams arc is this: he has become incredibly self-centred, as he feels [[WellDoneSonGuy that he has to be the best to get out from under Naruto's shadow.]] This has even impacted his performance as a ninja; despite being a ChildProdigy coming from two famous clans he's lazy and normally cheats to get what he wants, as well as is a troublemaker. He's also impulsive and reckless. It takes all the trauma he suffers in the movie to snap him out of it and make him become a better person.

What he does not ''absolutely'' accept is Naruto breaking his promise to him by sending only a shadow clone, which disappears anyway, on Himawari's birthday party and not turning up in person.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: As disrespectful and bratty Boruto is to his father, he is shown to be well-mannered and polite to most people, but not to the point of being formal like his mother. And underneath the attitude he projects, deep down he really loves his father.

* TheLancer: Later, as Boruto would follow Sasuke's path in protecting the Hokage in a shadow, Boruto also sees and entrusts Sarada as a future leader to inherit the Hokage title.

Despite not being the class representative, Boruto nearly always took the charge, whether for pranks or fun activities. He was also the Field Trip Manager during the School Trip Arc. Slowly subverted as he turns into TheLancer for Sarada's TheLeader during his early genin days. His Lancer status is reinforced by his dream which is play support to Sarada's Hokage role in the future.
* LikeFatherUnlikeSon: At first glance Boruto is the exact copy of his father. However as we get to learn more about his character, differences start to appear. First of all Boruto has the complete opposite of early childhood Naruto had, living with two [[DotingParent Doting Parents]] and [[TheCutie a little sister]]. He's also a ChildProdigy, ''very unlike'' his BoisterousWeakling father. And compared to how Naruto was at his age, Boruto is well mannered and socially adjusted. He [[{{Tsundere}} resents]] his father and has no respect for him (Naruto always respected Minato, no matter what) or the Hokage title ''nor'' he has any will to pursue his father's path.

When he encountered Momoshiki the first time and all his attacks are absorbed, Boruto become helpless for the first time in his life, shocked to see an opponent on a completely different level than him about to kill him.

Considering the dark implications of flashforward where [[spoiler:a sixteen years old sword-wielding Boruto is facing an enemy who implies that he killed '''Naruto''']] as well as Momoshiki's prophecy [[spoiler:which tells him that he will loose everything he holds dear]], this trope is very symbolically foreboding in nature.

Having a great childhood with his family--''especially'' in comparison to [[DarkAndTroubledPast the hell that both Naruto and Hinata went through when they were his age]]--Boruto's life turns upside down when Naruto is appointed as Hokage. Losing his hero's attention and feeling distant to him, Boruto does everything to spend time with his father, even acting out just so he could be lectured by him. On the other hand, his accomplishments are overlooked due to being the son of Naruto, which makes him feel inadequate and insecure, even though he's a prodigy. During the Chunin Exams, [[spoiler: when he receives a "Well Done" from his father for passing the test, ''he is moved to tears''. This desperation to keep his father's acknowledgement drives him to cheat. And it goes without saying, [[GoneHorriblyWrong everything ends in a fiasco]].]] It's even lampshaded by the movie's theme song, "Diver", which revolves around Boruto's desire to be acknowledged by Naruto. However, it puts blame on both sides: the father treats his son like a child, while the son acts tough towards his father to hide his frustration and insecurity.
* WhatTheHellHero: Boruto receives a lot of these in ''Boruto: Naruto the Movie'' for his selfishness and/or arrogance.

She was the youngest member of Boruto's class as well as it's honors student. She knows Boruto since infancy because their parents are friends and is a close childhood friend to him but she also thinks he's an idiot. Living alone with her mother Sakura, Sarada was rather unmotivated in her early ninja life until she met her father Sasuke. She has a huge admiration for the 7th Hokage and wants to be Hokage herself. She uses mainly lightning attacks with taijutsu inherited from Sakura. Sarada is the youngest current user of the Sharingan. Currently a genin in Team Konohamaru.

* BrainyBrunette: From a young age, Sarada demonstrated hints of being extremely intelligent for her age. Like her mother, she has a keen talent for observation and analyzing situations, which she uses to come up with the most rational solutions. Like her father, she has critical thinking habits, showing a keen and analytical mind, which aids her in battle to better read an enemy's attack. Although Boruto is considered the most advanced in ninjutsu, her theoretical knowledge is the best of her year.
** In ''Boruto the Movie'', Sarada mentioned she had read the book series mentioned in Sai's quiz, and was surprised to know that there was a fifth book, only to realize that the question was a sham and that there was no fifth book, which helped her team advance. Note that Boruto and Mitsuki turned to her after Sai read out the question, which notes that they acknowledge Sarada's intelligence and knowledge of the book.
** During the Field Trip arc, she beats Buntan Kurosuki through the use of science, using both the latter's lightning release jutsu and her own copying of it, combined with an illusion from the Sharingan, to fill the cave they're in with raw hydrogen gas (via electrolysis of the water around them) to amplify her bomb-tagged kunai to take Buntan out.
* BrilliantButLazy: Like Boruto, Sarada is a naturally gifted ChildProdigy, but she never devoted herself to her training out of disinterest. That is, until she was inspired to become the Hokage by Naruto in ''Naruto Gaiden'', after which she began to receive comments about how uncharacteristically fired up about training she has become.
* CallingTheOldManOut: She calls out her father for his complete absence in his daughter's life.

However, while Sakura started off as the resident FauxActionGirl and TheLoad and kept {{Zig Zagging|Trope}} in and out of both tropes throughout the entire series, alternated between being nice and being incredibly mean to Naruto, and was obsessed with Sasuke, Sarada starts off as a full-on warrior with zero interest in boys so far (save some mild ShipTease with Boruto), and while she and Boruto may argue, they have a grudging respect for one another.

* NerdGlasses: Sarada wears thick rimmed glasses that give her a bookish look. In her introduction in the final chapter of Naruto her {{nerd}}y outfit and glasses helped hide her identity until her scene with her mother.
* NiceGirl: Unlike both of her parents, Sarada has good manners in her childhood. She is never over-confident nor is she obsessed with boys; instead, she is modest and treats her classmates nicely.
* NotSoDifferent: Even though she says that what Boruto does is stupid, she considers that they're similar.

Sarada is the sole living scion as well as the heiress to the now nearly extinct but still very much prestigious Uchiha clan which is one of Konohagakure's four noble clans. She is a child version of a ProperLady and has shades of being a YamatoNadeshiko. While she does her chores on her own, the current Uchiha residence, [[spoiler: both the one destroyed by Sakura and the one rebuilt afterwards]], while not a BigFancyHouse, is still quite large and spacious with a large yard and garden. She is treated normally by her friends and classmates though there are instances such as a throwaway comment by Chocho as her being stuck-up due to being an Uchiha in the Gaiden manga while Shikadai refers to her as 'Sarada-sama' once in the anime. Interestingly, it is her ''enemies'' who are treat her as being a naive ojou more than her peers, notably Buntan Kurosuki.
* PlayingWithFire: Sarada uses her clan's signature jutsu -- Fire Style: Fireball Jutsu. As expected, Sasuke taught it to her.
* {{Protectorate}}: To Boruto. In ''Boruto: Naruto the Movie'', Boruto states that he will support her dream to be Hokage and he will protect her no matter what.

However after seeing Sarada in tears, Sakura understands that she is simply starved for a father's affection so she tells her the importance of what he is doing, and assuring her that he will be back.
** Naruto proves to be more forthcoming in this regard, though he's still glossing over Sasuke's past. The fact that Naruto does even that much leaves her immensely happy and driven to see him... until she says that he has trouble recognizing her.
* ToBeAMaster: Sarada takes up Naruto's old standard at the end of ''Naruto Gaiden'': To become Hokage.
* TookALevelInIdealism: ''Naruto Gaiden'' starts with Sarada questioning why there are such things as ninjas in the first place and has little interest in it. By the end, her new goal is to become Hokage.
* TraumaCongaLine: In short order, Sarada begins doubting Sakura is her real mother, finds evidence that is the case, but no-one will talk to her about it. She goes looking for her father, whom she's never met, and is attacked by a strange boy with a Sharingan. When she finally meets her father, he nearly kills her thinking she's an enemy and then coldly dismisses her questions. She then watches Sakura get abducted by the bad guys, then finds evidence that she's not even her real birth mother. When Naruto suggests they go save her mother, Sarada rounds on him with her Sharingan activated and snaps that Sakura isn't her mother and she has no reason to care about people who lied to her whole life. However, Naruto manages to calm her down and keep her from following in her father's footsteps. [[spoiler:In the end, she learns that Sakura was her real mother after all, recovers, forms a better bond with her family, and becomes a happier person.]]
* TraumaticSuperpowerAwakening: Averted. Unlike most Uchiha, who awaken their Sharingan through survival instinct, rage, or a traumatic experience, Sarada activates her Sharingan for the first time out of joy and excitement when she is finally going to meet her father. Naruto assumes she awakened them due to believing Sakura wasn't her birth mother.
* TrueSight: Her Sharingan allows her to see through and break out of visual illusions.
