* AdaptationalAngstUpgrade: She gets hit a lot harder by the V3 finale than she did canonically, as she [[spoiler:gets violently beaten by Terumi alongside having her right eye torn out]]. The events leave her bedridden and forced to remain on Patch in recovery, which leaves her frustrated at how she's unable to do anything to help anyone. It's also shown in Chapter 79 that she still suffers from the lingering trauma of Terumi's beating, even hallucinating his butterfly knives and almost having a panic attack because of it.

* AdaptationalAngstDowngrade: While he's had it rough thanks to being all alone after his siblings were adopted, not to mention accidentally [[spoiler:killing his mother-figure]], this is still rather tame compared to the games. Unlike his canon series, he never got his arm cut off by a {{mind raped}} Jin, never met Terumi, was never left to die in the burning remains of his home, and was adopted normally by Jubei rather than after all the aforementioned things happened to him.

* AdaptationalWimp: Downplayed. While still powerful, he notably lacks some of his strongest attacks from the games (Dead Spike and Devoured by Darkness), [[spoiler:with him needing to be in what's basically his Unlimited Mode to even use them]], where as canonically he could use them in his base form. However, he does train to better control it and by Chapter 49, he can use Devoured by Darkness as he would in the games.

* LeeroyJenkins: More often than not, his go-to method for solving problems is to rush in and beat the shit out of anything that gets in his way. When paired with Ruby's leadership to help direct him, it tends to work out. His immense strength compared to his competition, coupled with his Soul Eater abilities, allows this to go in his favor more often than not. However, it gets heavily torn apart come Volume 4, since being Salem's captive means his reckless approach is left utterly useless, as he's surrounded by those ''much'' stronger than he is and cunning enough to keep him in place. Even he acknowledges that he's relied too much on this method and he'll need to fight smarter rather than harder if he wants his freedom.

* HappilyAdopted: She was adopted by the Vermillions, but she loves them and considers them to be her true parents.

* LethalChef: Her cooking somehow surpasses EpicFail levels of awful, given that it's almost like an EldritchAbomination and can put people in the infirmary with 2nd degree burns ''outside'' their body. Makoto even mentions that Noel once cooked a soup so rancid that when she force fed it to a Beowolf, it melted the Grimm into a puddle.

* DropTheHammer: Her main weapon is Magnhild, a grenade launcher/war-hammer hybrid that she uses to smash her opponents around and leave large impact craters.

* AdaptationalSexuality: In the main series, she only ever had a crush on Jaune and was straight by all appearances. Here, while she starts with a crush on Jaune, she later develops a crush on Yang instead, making her bisexual.

* HeelFaceReincarnation: While Ragna is a rough and reckless person, he still ultimately wants to do right by others and protect people. This is in stark contrast to [[spoiler:his past life as the Black Beast; the son of Salem and a monster that brought the world to ruin and is the reason for the existence of the Grimm. In addition, he's this to the original human form of the Beast, who was shown to be a SpoiledBrat and a BigBrotherBully]], contrasting Ragna having a more humble upbringing and being a [[BigBrotherInstinct protective elder brother]] to his siblings.

* StepfordSmiler: While Ruby does her best to hide it, her [=POVs=] following the events of the Fall of Vale show that she's actively trying to repress the trauma caused by her failure to stop Terumi and [[spoiler:the loss of her eye]]. She's also shown to be fending off how useless she feels now that she's stuck recovering at home, unable to help anyone.

* CloningBlues: After she learns that [[spoiler:she's a Murakumo Unit and a clone of Saya]], she suffers a big case of this trope. When Ruby discovers her poetry journal, she sees that her poems have gone from cheesy and goofy to existential and nihilistic, questioning her existence and if it's all a lie, which itself eventually devolves into scratched out repeating of "clone", "fake", and "monster" over and over again. She also expresses a lot of self-loathing that [[spoiler:her existence came at Saya's expense]].

* TheCasanova: Jin derides him as this for his frequent flirting with his female peers. The first thing he does when he gets to Beacon is make a pass at a group of second year female students.

* MasterSwordsman: Despite his primary weapon being cane, he's highly adept with swords as well. When Ragna allowed him to use Aramasa, he noted with awe the skill and grace displayed by the Headmaster while wielding it, as if the sword was made for him. This is one of the signs to his past identity as [[spoiler:Bloodedge]].

* CuteOversizedSleeves: Her jacket includes massive paw-like covers on her sleeves that hide her hands. Within those extensions are razor claws that act as her weapons.
