* TookALevelInJerkass: While under Doji's alliance, he became cold-hearted, emotionless, and ruthless to even the point of almost destroying Dark Bull and Flame Sagittario. He shows to be extremely maniacal as he was shown in Episode 9 and only wants destruction. However, he came back to normal after his second battle with Gingka.

* TheWorfEffect: Not as bad as most characters. In ''Fusion'': He lost against only Ryuga, Reiji, and Gingka. In ''Masters'', he lost against Masamune twice and Tsubasa. Afterwards, he defeated Aleksei, but was the first one taken out of the 3-on-3 match between him, Gingka, and Masamune vs Julian, Sophie, and Wales. His only wins in the World Championships were Aleksei and the tag team match against Wild Fang & Excalibur with more effort on Tsubasa. He did end up getting better by the end of ''Masters'' defeating Argo and most of ''Fury'', including helping Masamune and King defeat two of the Nemesis Bladers.

** WorfHadTheFlu: In his battles with Enzo and Damian, his bey was nearly broken in the former, and in the latter, his bey was barely repaired enough to race.

* DemonicPossession: [[spoiler:His cruelty and evil is a result of L-Drago's power over him. L-Drago can completely possess him as well. He eventually manages to purge L-Drago of the darkness and free himself.]]

* EvilWeapon: Lightning L-Drago was certainly this. [[spoiler:Subverted with its evolution; Meteo L-Drago.]]

* AlasPoorVillain: When Ryuga starts to be fully possessed by L-Drago, everyone, including [[{{GoodIsNotNice}} Kyoya,]] becomes worried for him.
** [[spoiler:For all the trouble Ryuga caused both before and during the Nemesis Crisis, Ryuga’s death in ''Metal Fury'' is portrayed tragically, and everyone was saddened and infuriated at his demise. Even Kyoya, who personally hated Ryuga, was livid.]]
* AlwaysSomeoneBetter: To Gingka. L-Drago and Pegasus are two sides of the same coin that come from the same star that gave birth to Beyblade, meaning that both Beys should theoretically be equal in power. However, the same cannot be said for their Bladers as Ryuga proves to be on another level than Gingka each time they face off.
** He also counts as this to Kyoya. Throughout the entire series, Kyoya has been obsessed with defeating Gingka, only to get at best a draw with him despite all of the TrainingFromHell he's put himself in. Ryuga on the other hand has only lost to Gingka once, with every other match being clearly in his favor and ending in his victory. Emphasizing this point is when the three of them became Legendary Bladers in ''Fury''; despite Kyoya stating that the conditions between them are equal now that they all have a piece of the same Star Fragment, Ryuga goes on to defeat Kyoya then Gingaka in back to back battles.

* AmbiguouslyHuman: ''Something'' changed in Ryuga after ''Fusion'' when [[spoiler: he's freed from L-Drago's possession.]]

* BigBadDuumvirate: With Doji for ''Fusion'' [[spoiler:until Ryuga seemingly kills him]].
* BigDamnHeroes: [[spoiler:Came to the rescue of Gan Gan Galaxy when Tsubasa and Yu got injured, defeating Jack in the process.]]

** Another one was after [[spoiler: losing to Rago, he gave his Star Fragment power to Kenta, enabling him to become a Legendary Blader.]]
* BloodKnight: Is very eager to fight strong opponents but not for the thrill of a good battle. More to drain their bey's energies to make L-Drago even more stronger, but even in ''Masters'' and on, he picks fights just for the hell of it.
* BrokenPedestal: In ''Fusion'' Yu admired Ryuga and only joined the Dark Nebula because of him, seeing him as the only one who could defeat his Libra. But once after Yu lost in Battle Bladers, Yu slowly lost respect for him as he did nothing to save Yu from being attacked by Reiji and finally stop admiring him after his cruel method of defeating Tsubasa and draining his energy. The two haven't really spoke to each other since ''Fusion''.

* CoatCape: he has one as part of his main attire.
* CurbStompBattle: Due to his immense power level, he dishes them out left and right, usually destroying his opponents' beys outright. Even after joining the side of good, he still demolishes nearly anyone he fights within ten seconds. The only ones who actually beat him are Gingka and [[spoiler:Rago]].
* DarkIsEvil: He’s the wielder of L-Drago, the dark counterpart of Pegasus, and in the first season he has a dark aura when using it. In later seasons however he now has a Red/Orange aura when using L-Drago.

* JustToyingWithThem: He usually holds back his power to give his enemies a HopeSpot before he obliterates them. Whenever he wants a fight ended quickly (in his words, when he "doesn't have time for it"), it usually will end quickly.

* LifeDrain: L-Drago's specialty. While Lightning L-Drago accomplished it through what appeared to be dark energy, the next generations used their reverse rotation in tandem with rubber-plated parts (and probably still dark energy in the anime). He can do this at such a level that simply throwing his bey into the stadium is enough to win most fights due to it absorbing the power of any attacks.

* TokenAdult: Technically since he debuts as 18 in the series. He's the oldest main character there.

** [[spoiler:For all the trouble Ryuga caused, both before, and during the Nemesis Crisis, Ryuga’s death in ''Metal Fury'' is played in a tragic manner, and the heroes all pay their tributes to him, and swear to avenge him. Even Kyoya, who personally hated Ryuga, was livid.]]

* AxCrazy: Most definitely so in '' Fusion'' where he is prone to evil laughter while crushing his opponents.

** Allowing the bey to control the blader. Ryuga himself stated that was a big mistake on his part to let L-Drago take over him and devoted himself to allowing that never happens again.
** Hades Inc. in general. Ryuga felt used by them due to technically creating L-Drago and Dark Nebula. He made it clear by being the one that takes them down at the end.
** Other left-rotating beys. It's not much but Ryuga did seem really annoyed that Julian's Gravity Destroyer also spins to the left claiming that L-Drago should be the only left rotating bey in the world.

* EvilIsNotAToy: [[spoiler:There's a ''very'' good reason L-Drago was called [[NamesToRunAwayFromReallyFast the "Forbidden Bey"]]. Ryuga wasn't aware of the fact that L-Drago was really the one using him, and on a few occasions, L-Drago [[DemonicPossession possesses Ryuga]], which normally leads to BodyHorror. In 'Metal Masters' he's managed to overcome the darkness in L-Drago through heavy training (involving lava), causing it to evolve into Meteor L-Drago]]

* JerkAss: He makes [[ArrogantKungFuGuy Kyoya]] look like Gingka. Whether he’s a member of Dark Nebula, [[DemonicPossession possessed by L-Drago,]] or doing things on his own accord, Ryuga’s consistent characteristic is his hostility, whether in Beyblade, or in general.

* CharacterDevelopment: Kyoya's arrogance at the beginning of the series was unrivaled. He didn’t care about his teammates very much, even though he respects his bey he does not care for it. But this [[{{HeelFaceTurn}} changes]] later in the series. During the survival battle, Rock Leone's performance tip cracks as a result of using a special move against Hyoma which he comes to know. During his battle against Yu Tendo in Episode 22, he withdraws his bey from the battle because he cared for his bey, which shows a change in his personality.

* GoodIsNotNice: A good guy definitely but he doesn't sugarcoat things toward others.

* HypocriticalHeartwarming: He can be a jerk to those around him at times, but he will NOT tolerate anyone else doing it. A perfect example of this is when he calls out Rago for badmouthing Ryuga after the latter's gruesome defeat.

* {{Jerkass}}: Big time in the beginning. Everyone was fair game to his viciously fierce attitude, including his own Face Hunters. After his second defeat to Gingka, he still isn’t very friendly, and can sometimes be selfish, but he mellows out considerably.

* WorldsStrongestMan: He has built a massive reputation for being overwhelmingly powerful, to the point that he's only ever lost two battles in the entire series, one of which was against its own counterpart empowered by ThePowerOfFriendship, and the other of which was against a ''PhysicalGod'' that had all of the powers of the Legendary Bladers 'including'' his own. It's even more apparent due to the fact that he enjoys letting his enemies think they have a chance before one of his many OneHitKill attacks inevitably come.

* Shorttank: She's a {{Tsundere}}, the only girl on the team, and her outfit is a bit girlier then the standard, but still counts.

** He also counts as this to Kyoya. Throughout the entire series, Kyoya has been obsessed with defeating Gingka, only to get at best a draw with him despite all of the TrainingFromHell he's put himself in. Ryuga on the other hand has only lost to Gingka once, with every other match being clearly in his favor and ending in his victory. * BloodKnight: Is very eager to fight strong opponents but not for the thrill of a good battle. More to drain their bey's energies to make L-Drago even more stronger.
