Tiax is the utterly insane gnomish cleric/thief of Cyric (the utterly insane god of lying and evil). Tiax is, possibly, the single most insane character in the entire series, and that is honestly saying something. He believes Cyric has proclaimed him to rule Toril (the world you're on) and that though he hasn't ''quite'' taken over yet his time will soon come. He has what's slightly more than a cameo in [=BG2=] when he helps you fight Irenicus and dies ignobly.

** Bill Martin also voiced Arthur on the first season of ''TheTick''. Now ''there's'' an interesting contrast in voice jobs...

* StaffChick - The clearest example in the series.

* Main/ShoutOut - One of his annoyed quotes is him singing 'Lali Ho!' from SnowWhite.

A bloodthirsty dwarven berserker, essentially the evil {{Foil}} to Minsc. He can be first recruited as a mercernary in [=BG2=], and later follows the main character. He is generally considered a pain to deal with by other teammates, particularly the women. Ironically, he is sexually interested in Mazzy, the closest thing there is to a Halfling Paladin.

* Main/TheScrappy - Quite possibly the most annoying NPC in [=BG1=], but he's a borderline case because as he's not available until late in the game and is quite weak to boot, many players don't even bother with him ''before'' they find that out.

* {{Wangst}} - The [[strike:undisputed]] only-sometimes-disputed queen of it among major characters in this series.

* TheWoobie - It's hard to deny that the world hates Aerie.

Ah, Anomen. Squire of The Order of the Radiant Heart. {{Jerkass}} extraordinaire. Pompous, arrogant, insufferable, vain, and [[TheScrappy bloody-annoying]]. He's on a quest to [[IWantToBeARealMan become a full knight]]. If he succeeds, he [[RescuedFromTheScrappyHeap becomes a more respectable character]]. If he fails, he adds {{Wangst}} to all those negative traits, making him greatly irritating. All that, and he's the only option for a female Bhaalspawn romance. Hurrah. Still a decent character gameplay-wise, though.

* RescuedFromTheScrappyHeap - Many people feel resolution of his Knighthood quest does this for him.

* TheScrappy - To many players, he is one of the most aggravating characters you can get in your party. Depending on the decisions the player makes in his personal questline, he can become more or less bearable, depending on player preferences.
* SmallNameBigEgo - He boasts incessantly about both his status as a member of the Order of the Radiant Heart and the many battles in which he's fought, but he's still a squire and hasn't even been knighted at the time he's encountered. His ego is part of what makes him [[TheScrappy so insufferable]] for many players.

* Main/UnfortunateImplications - Perhaps the vaguely-Yiddish accent wasn't the best addition to so greedy a character.

* BoobyTrap - As a bounty hunter, he specializes in setting them. Used cleverly they are [[GameBreaker exceptionally powerful]].

* GoodBadBug - Because of an error in the way Dual-Classing was coded, Yoshimo is able to set an infinite number of traps without resting. Since traps were already overpowered to begin with, this makes him, needless to say, [[GameBreaker ridiculously powerful]].

* PlayerPunch - For many, his [[spoiler:being forced to spy on, then betray, the PC]] by Irenicus was an effective one.

* TearJerker - [[YourMileageMayVary Possibly]]. It depends on how you react to [[spoiler:being betrayed]].

* AlternativeCharacterInterpretation - Beyond merely finding her annoyingly whiny, the most extreme opinion believes that she says all her apparently caring lines just to appear sweet, that her comments about how miserable it is to be stuck on the ground indicate she looks down on everyone else, that her real personality is only revealed the few times she loses her nerve and gets mad, and so on.

* GameBreaker - Inexperienced players sometimes underrate her as a mage because she doesn't gain access to the most powerful arcane spells, but the ability to use divine as well as arcane spells with power-amplifying setups like Sequencers and Contingencies more than makes up for it if you know what you're doing. Although, being a multi-class, she won't actually level up enough to get Sequencers until very late in the game.

* RescuedFromTheScrappyHeap - Say what folks will about her in [=BG2=], they tend to be much more forgiving about her in [=ToB=].
* TheScrappy - In certain areas. YourMileageMayVary.

* GoodBadBug - More than any other character, he benefits from equipping the Ring of Free Action. Since powerful abilities that root the user to the spot (such as his defensive spin) were coded in the same way movement-restricting [[StandardStatusEffect status effects]] were, he can move around while in defensive spin if he's wearing it.

* {{Expy}} - She started out as a SuspiciouslySimilarSubstitute for Imoen, whom the developers originally planned to have Irenicus [[PlayerPunch kill off/drive permanently insane]]. When Imoen's popularity among players convinced them to reconsider, they didn't change the "red-haired do-gooder thief/mage" thing much.

* Main/BattleCouple - Possibly with Montaron, depending on how you read the [[HoYay subtext]] of their relationship.

* Main/HoYay - Particularly in the second game, there's a certain... subtext.. to the things he says about Montaron, despite his stated dislike for him.

* Main/EnsembleDarkhorse - As mentioned above, quite a few people were disappointed he didn't make it into the sequel. He makes the most of his screen time in the tutorial, where--judging by his delivery--he seems to find teaching the basics of magic to CHARNAME ''incredibly'' tedious.

* EnsembleDarkhorse - Paladins tend not to be particularly popular characters in these types of stories, being cartoonishly uptight, cardboard [[KnightInShiningArmor Knights In Shining Armor]] most of the time, but lots of players feel Keldorn's an extremely well-written character who retains the essence of the character type while subverting the flatter and more stereotypical aspects of it. Gods bless the VideoGameCaringPotential. And now there are even mods making him a possible [[MayDecemberRomance romance]] [[YourMileageMayVary option]]!

He's a flavor weapon that gained so much popularity that the fans treated him as a core party member and created mods which let him interact with the world around him. There's even an ElderScrolls mod out there which lets you use him in {{Morrowind}}.

* LoveItOrHateIt - Again, second only to Anomen in this regard.

* LoveItOrHateIt - Hoo boy. Of all the characters in the entire BG series, Anomen is the unquestioned king of being nigh-impossible to feel indifferent about.

** It's kinda worse than that. [[spoiler: Initially there's not enough evidence to determine whether Saerk killed Anomen's sister or not. If Anomen murders Saerk, later it turns out Saerk isn't guilty. But if Anomen doesn't go after Saerk... guess what, it turns out Saerk really did kill her.]]

* VirginityMakesYouStupid - It's not clear whether the literal definition of this trope [[IfYouKnowWhatIMean technically applies or not]], but the setup between her and Eldoth is a classic case.

* {{Sex As Rite-Of-Passage}} - A gender inversion. At the end of her initial romance arc, she will ask the PC to [[IfYouKnowWhatIMean spend the night with her]] so that she can "become a woman". (It's not ''the'' reason, since she's an utter romantic, but it certainly comes up.) Needless to say, this is the ''wrong'' move, because she will decide in the morning that she's not ready for such a close relationship yet and puts it on hold. Telling her that there is more than that to love and that she should wait until she's more certain of her feelings is the right move. In the expansion pack, she and the PC [[spoiler:apparently get intimate quite a bit, as Jan will observe. She also becomes pregnant with the PC's child.]]
