Fortunately her husband comes home just in time, urges the assassin to let her go and take him instead. But Andreas manages to subdue the assassin and get him restrained and imprisoned. Elise is very much relived to have Wolf alive.

He brings up that WarIsHell, but there’s nothing he can do to sugar coat it, and everything he’s done was for the good of the empire, and it won him the title of general, a mansion and marriage with a noble lady like Elise. But deep down he regrets how far he’s come and wants karma to befall him, even when he has no regrets for his actions.

The female lead. Her father was the previous lord of the Trauslid family while her mother was a prostitute, something her relatives loath with every fiber in their being. She was engaged to Conrad before the start of the story, but he’s killed in combat. She’s forced to marry his killer, who’s widely believed to be a bloodthirsty general. Naturally she’s terrified to getting hitched with such a man, but [[PerfectlyArrangedMarriage Elise starts to appreciate her new husband as she discovers his true heart]]

Then Maximillian forced her to be his dance partner even though she’s visibly uncomfortable, especially as he goes on complementing her beauty in a creepy tone. She eventually feels guilty for misjudging him when discovering Wolf has a golden heart underneath his tough exterior, is remorseful for all the blood he spilled, and shocked for the event that lead to his negative reputation was orchestrated by a nobleman who pinned the blame on him. She’s especially taken Wolf treating her so kindly and humane, as opposed to the general hate she receives by practically everyone.

* TheAtoner: He admits the reason he accepted his ArrangedMarriage to Elise is because he knew her family is planning something terrible, and since he killed her fiancé in battle, saw it as karma for all the killings he did in war.

* TenderTears: She sheds the waterworks after the assassin incident on Elise, fearing she’s really go leave for good. Turns to happy tears when Elise makes it clear she’s not going anywhere.
