* HellOfAHeaven: What Soul Society is in a nutshell. There's one DarkSecret after another, and people who would be imprisoned in any reasonably civilized system are essentially allowed to roam free without fear of consequences.
* HeroAntagonist: The Soul Reapers (not counting Aizen and co.) in the first arc. From their perspective, they're trying to deliver punishment to a criminal and Ichigo and his team are an armed mob raiding the police station.

%%* HopeSpot: In several places throughout the series. The Karakura Town battle has several in a row at one point. However, even that pales in comparison with the opening battle of the Final Arc which delivers some of the most brutal examples of this trope in the entire manga.

* HealingSpring: Urahara and Yoruichi's secret Seireitei training ground has one which was created by Urahara. Ichigo uses it to heal his wounds during his Bankai training. Some HotSpringsEpisode [[{{filler}} hijinks]] ensue. It's later confirmed to have been Kirinji's invention when he uses it to heal Ichigo, Byakuya, Renji and Rukia. The original is much more complex and powerful than Urahara's version [[spoiler:and can also be weaponised]].

* HelmetsAreHardlyHeroic: Discussed at the end of the Soul Society arc. In the middle of the arc, the helmet [[{{Samurai}} Captain Komamura]] always wore is broken in battle by Captain Zaraki. He'd been trying to hide the shame of being an [[OurWerewolvesAreDifferent anthropomorphic wolf]] instead of human. However, once everyone learns the truth, they accept him on the grounds that wearing helmets make a person come across as untrustworthy whereas showing his face makes him seem honest and therefore reliable - good guys don't wear helmets, only people who are up to no good hide their faces.
* HeroAntagonist: The Soul Reapers (not counting Aizen and co) in the first arc. From their perspective, they're trying to deliver punishment to a criminal and Ichigo and his team are an armed mob raiding the police station.

** [[spoiler:In the Hueco Mundo arc, the AmazonBrigade quartet of female villains all survive. Their leader, Halibel, is defeated by the BigBad during a YouHaveOutlivedYourUsefulness moment, and not the heroes.]]

* KeystoneSuperpower:
** Aaroniero Arruruerie, the 9th Espada and the only Gillian and first generation Espada (lowest class of Menos) has absorbed the power of 33, 650 Hollows including [[spoiler: Metastacia and through it shinigami Kaien Shiba, shikai and all]] via his hollow ability Glotoneria. It allows him to absorb the powers and abilities of dead Hollows without limit unlike other hollows who can only absorb power up to a certain limit.
** Filler villain Oko Yushima can absorb and reproduce any attack with just his shikai. He can "record" space and then reproduce any attack and even clone another person to reproduce a physical attack as many times as he wants. Other shinigami are limited to only a few shikai abilities.
** Nozomi Kujo can absorb anything that uses spiritual power and fire the attack back.

* Happens at the end of ''Anime/PuellaMagiMadokaMagica'', when Madoka finally makes her wish to become a magical girl. The whole series up to this point lays out why she should never, ever do this, first because her naive selflessness would put her in danger, and later because this would literally cause a planet-scale apocalypse due to her uncontrollable power [[spoiler:turning her into an unstoppable witch]]. But she realizes that [[LoopholeAbuse there's a way around the latter problem]], allowing her to use her immense power for good, and fulfilling her desire to sacrifice herself to save others:

* SelfMadeSuperPowers:
** Mayuri Kurotsuchi, a MadScientist takes this a step further. Being a scientist first and foremost but needing combat prowess he used his brilliant mind to upgrade his Shinigami abilities. As Urahara Kisuke's successor as the Head of Shinigami Research Institute, he gave himself the ability to liquefy and make himself immune to any attack, a grappling hook in his arm and a scythe that extends from his ear. He also created something that allowed himself to achieve Bankai the non-traditional way. Additionally, he installed a censor on his sword that can perfectly block any attack, making up for his lack of swordsmanship skills.
** Aizen Sosuke [[spoiler:created the Hogyoku to break the limits of Shinigami potential and steals Kisuke Urahara's, the only person he acknowledges to be smarter than him, to create a single one. He gains so many transformations and powers that it is best to see his page.]]
** Oko Yushima is another brilliant scientist and [[spoiler: is also a [[TheChessMaster chess master]] who invented the mod-soul and Regai Technology. He later turns himself in to a mod-soul through a series of convoluted schemes and gains access to the full extent of his KeystoneSuperpower.]]
