** Shinji first appears seeking to recruit Ichigo to join the ranks of the Visored, which he leaves. Ichigo refuses, so Shinji enrols in Ichigo's school class to continue the pressure. Upon meeting his new classmates, he is inappropriately forward with Orhime, enveloping her in a bear hug. When Orihime later tracks Ichigo to the Visored's hidden training ground to pass on an important message from Captain-Commander Yamamoto, the group is absolutely baffled as to who she is. Shinji turns away and in a dejected mood states that she's his first love. Lisa crossly dismisses him, complaining that he describes every cute girl he's ever met as his first love.

** The characters attending Karakura High use the injury and/or illness excuse for their frequent disappearances ''far'' too often. The fact that up to five members of the same homeroom class may all be on simultaneous extended absences makes the lies all the more blatant. No one questions [[{{Cloudcuckoolander}} Orihime]]'s excuses, since her ditziness is well known and they don't expect to ever get a more coherent explanation. Uryuu is probably the most blatant liar--his arms get slashed to ribbons when he saves Ichigo's life and he explains the mess of bandages to the teacher as "I fell down some stairs"--but he rarely gets called on it because he manages to keep his grades up and stay on top of the class and is otherwise very obedient.
** [[BunnyEarsLawyer Shinji]] [[TheIdiotFromOsaka Hirako]] refers to Orihime as his first love. Then it's revealed he describes every cute girl he ever meets like this.

* In ''Manga/RanmaOneHalf'', all of the MiniatureSeniorCitizens claim to have been both normal-sized and [[IWasQuiteALooker very attractive]] when young (particularly the [[DirtyOldMan ultra-lecherous]] [[FairWeatherMentor Happôsai]] and [[SpellMyNameWithAnS Lukkôsai]], who claim to have been dignified, respected {{Bishonen}}s). This is proven to be false in Happōsai's case (who was a homely little dwarf with the exact same standards as the present Happōsai) and is likely the same in Lukkōsai's case. [[TricksterMentor Cologne]], on the other hand, looks the same in both her and Happosai's flashback, so she's probably being honest. [[spoiler:It's confirmed as true in the anime]].
* ''Manga/MahouSenseiNegima'': The Mages HandWave things like people flying, shooting fireballs, or giant demon mecha with "It's {{Toku}}." (In the official English translation, it's "CGI", which stretches both this trope and the WillingSuspensionOfDisbelief even further.) And '''''it works'''''. This sort of makes sense during the festival arc where the {{Muggles}} were already using magic guns and the like, but there's no reason for it to work the time it showed up in the Kyoto arc.

Nobody seems to buy it, but on the other hand they don't know of anything ''else'' that could possibly cause that destruction.
* The LightNovel/DirtyPair are more properly addressed as the "Lovely Angels" because that more accurately describes them, and it's ''[[NeverMyFault never]]'' [[NeverMyFault their fault]] when something bad happens on one of their missions, even when a [[EarthShatteringKaboom planet is destroyed]], which tends to happen somewhere around a third of the time. [[ProtagonistCenteredMorality At least,]] [[BadLiar that's what they claim]].

* Minako of ''Manga/SailorMoon'' does the same thing during her own manga, ''Manga/CodenameSailorV''. Artemis doesn't buy it for a second.
* Onsokumaru of ''Manga/NininGaShinobuden'' is a floating yellow ball with arms, yet for [[RuleOfFunny some reason]] Shinobu believes him when he claims to be a hawk. This is just one of countless lies he manages to sell her on. [[OnlySaneMan Kaede]] is never fooled for a second.
