Although Bêlit managed to escape, Jehanan wasn't so fortunate. Against the warnings of Conan (who managed to escape anyways and make it to Nabonidus' home), Murilo made an EnemyMine with Nabonidus to defeat Thak to escape the mansion, with Nabonidus swearing not to turn Murilo over to the king. However, once Thak is killed, Nabonidus turns on Murilo, intending to deal with Murilo personally by killing him and Conan with a death trap, only for Conan to kill Nabonidus first by throwing a stool at him.

** Valannus, governor of the Aquilonian frontier province of Conajohara, has Zogar Sag, a Pictish wizard terrorizing the region, which was occupied by the Picts before Aquilonia annexed it. At some point, Valannus captured Zogar Sag and sent him to a cell, which Conan decribed in ''Literature/BeyondTheBlackRiver'' as "the worst insult you can give a Pict." Zogar Sag escaped and killed the men who helped Valannus captured him. Zogar Sag and his followers attacked Valannus's headquarters of Fort Tuscalan, where they killed all but one of the men inside. Valannus himself died fighting the Picts, despite their efforts to capture him alive.

*** Thutmekri, a Stygian adventurer who Conan feuds with during "Jewels of Gwahlur" and its pastiche sequel "The Ivory Goddess", with the text at the beginning of the former story establishing that the two men "already knew each other of old, and without love." In "Jewels of Gwahlur", Thutmekri sought to steal a treasure from Keshan, which Conan was also after. He also conspired to manipulate the locals into flaying Conan alive. In the "Ivory Goddess", Thutmekri encounters Conan in Punt, where both men travelled to after fleeing Keshan empty-handed. There, Conan had his female companion impersonate a goddess to turn the people of Punt against Thutmekri, only for Conan's companion to be possessed by the actual goddess, who ordered Thutmekri executed and Conan evicted from Punt. In the ensuing aftermath, Conan slays Thutmekri in a sword fight.
