A spin-off series titled ''The Seven Heavenly Virtues'' (''Nanatsu no Bitoku'') has been announced for Winter 2018, which follows the SevenHeavenlyVirtues, the [[{{Foil}} Foils]] of the Seven Deadly Sins, as they search on Earth for a 'True Messiah'.

* UnwittingInstigatorOfDoom: Episode 11 reveals [[spoiler:Lucifer herself is one. Under God's orders she booted out an angel named Satanael for giving humans false hope, but never bothered to reveal that. If she did, Satanael would have never taken the name Belial and plotted an elaborate scheme to return to Heaven.]]

* WeUsedToBeFriends: It is implied Lucifer was friends with Archangel Michael before falling. God's Number One and Number Two angels.

* AuthorityInNameOnly: Despite Belial technically being the leader, none of the other sins care about obeying her and when it becomes apparant that Lucifer is returning to Hell they ditch her without fanfare. This is mostly out of the fact that she makes for nasty company. [[spoiler: Subverted as of episode 10. Because of the other mortal sins electing Belial as the literal leader, they must stay loyal to her or otherwise face eternal damnation.]]

* ClingyJealousGirl: Well, Leviathan is Envy...she's utterly obsessed with Lucifer to the point of physical violence against those she perceives as a challenge.
* ComicallyMissingThePoint: As the Sin of Vanity, Belial is psychologically incapable of viewing anything related to her personally as a negative, no matter how many logical hoops she has to jump through to justify it.

* FriendlyEnemy: Lucifer sees Astaroth with considerably less animosity or nastiness than she does the other Mortal Sins. The two even 'fight it out' by performing together on stage, an experience Lucifer genuinely seems to enjoy.

* RedBaron: Astaroth is known as "The Languid Diva."

* SitcomArchNemesis: Leviathan absolutely ''hates'' Maria for taking Lucifer's attention from her, leading to some really petty touches such as ordering sushi for Lucifer and herself, but not Maria because "you suck!"

* AffablyEvil: Most of the Sins are actually rather pleasant outside of the corruption thing. Belphegor can be especially friendly.
* ALighterShadeOfGrey: The Mortal Sins are portrayed as this when compared to [[spoiler:[[LightIsNotGood God and the Heavenly Virtues]], who have lost their hope on this world and decided that it's better to just destroy it and create another. Yes, most of the Sins have been happily condemning their followers to Hell for what is implied to be centuries, but when thay are not doing that they can be quite friendly and even noble, so leaving them to rule the world sounds like a much better option than total annihilation.]]
* AnAxeToGrind: Satan's weapon.

* AngelicBeauty: All of the Seven Lively Virtues, including Lucifer before her banishment.

* BadSamaritan: The Demon Lords are a classical example. They offer to humans the greatest pleasures of the world, and make little speeches about how the way of living they preach will make them happier, but all they want is to corrupt human souls and condemn them to hell. The exceptions are [[TokenGoodTeammate Astaroth and Beelzebub]], the former only wanting to enjoy singing, and the latter really wants to see people happy with delicious food.
* BareYourMidriff: With the exception of Lucifer, Astaroth and Beelzebub, all demons wear midriff-baring outfits.

* BigEater: Beelzebub, as expected of the Sin of Gluttony.

* BladeOnAStick: Lucifer's weapon of choice is a spear.
* BloodKnight: Satan, the Sin of [[JustifiedTrope Wrath.]]

* BroughtDownToBadass: At the end of the first episode Belial inflicts Lucifer with a curse that will eventually kill her. Doesn't stop Lucifer from having her former strength.
* TheCameo: Out of the Seven Heavenly Virtues, only Michael is named or given any screentime. The others cameo as nameless robed figures, and are shown in Chibi form in the final episode's bonus art.

* CombatStilettos: Belphegor and Beelzebub are the only Sins that don’t wear high heels. The ones that do wear don’t see any need to change shoes before a fight.

* TheCorrupter: This is the job description of a Demon Lord. They come to Earth, seduce as many humans as possible with their respective sins and thus get them into a contract to send their souls to hell after they die.

* CuteMonsterGirl: All the demons are this.
* DarkIsNotEvil: Downplayed with most of the Demon Lords. They corrupt humans and doom their souls to hell, yeah, but when they are not doing their “jobs” they can show many noble traits and even perform some good deeds. [[TokenGoodTeammate Astaroth and Beelzebub]] play this trope completely straight while [[{{Jerkass}} Belial]] averts it [[spoiler:but the adversion does not last when she does a HeelFaceTurn in the end playing it a bit straight]].
* DefrostingIceQueen: Despite starting the series as a rather nasty fallen angel unable to admit fault in anything and devoted only to seizing power for herself, Lucifer has grown extremely fond of Maria and Leviathan to the point of calling Maria her friend and allowing Levi to sleep in the same bed as her.

* TheDragAlong: Maria is basically dragged by Lucifer into her quest, and can't leave her because Lucifer has her heart. [[spoiler:This is because she has angel blood inside of her which allows her to locate the other Sins, something which Lucifer finds to be useful.]]
* EvenEvilHasStandards: None of the Sins seems to share Belial's enthusiasm about torture. [[spoiler:They weren't too thrilled to hear about God's plan to erase Earth and Hell either.]]

* FallenAngel: Lucifer, of course. [[spoiler: Belial, as well, as revealed in episode 11.]]

* FieryRedhead: Satan is the only redhead and the most aggressive of the Sins. [[JustifiedTrope Justified]], as she represents Wrath.
* ForegoneConclusion: The Sins at the beginning of the series include Vanity and Melancholy, while Pride (Lucifer) and Envy (Levi) are not members of the Seven Sins. Unsurprisingly, the former two are replaced by the later two by the finale.

* FullFrontalAssault: After Lucifer blows her clothes off, Belial refuses to get dressed again. Since it would be acknowledging Lucifer succeeded in doing so to begin with.

* GenderFlip: With the exception of Maria, every character is a gender-flipped version of a major demon associated with the deadly sins.

* GodIsEvil: [[spoiler:As revealed in episode 9]]
* GreenEyedMonster: Leviathan, fittingly since she represents Envy, feels incredibly jealous of the attention Lucifer gives to Maria.
* HotAsHell: All the demons are extremely attractive in a buxomly curvaceous way, (except for [[TokenMiniMoe Beelzebub]], who is still absolutely cute). Asmodeus especially makes full use of her gorgeous looks to gather followers.
* HornedHumanoid: All demons have one or two horns, which signifies their demonhood, and Lucifer eventually [[EstablishingCharacterMoment grows her own.]]
* HornyDevils: Leviathan and Asmodeus (who represents Lust) are the most perverted of the demons.

* LightIsNotGood:
** Lucifer welcomes her new status as a demon with open arms, but she still dresses in a mostly white outfit. Then again, her name does means "Light-bearer".
** [[spoiler:The forces of Heaven are revealed to be much worse in episode 9 as they plan on destroying both Earth and Hell in a final purging of the sinful.]].

* MakingASplash: Leviathan can control water.

* MegaTwintails: Beelzebub's style.
* MismatchedEyes: Belial's left eye is red while the right one is yellow.

* MoralityPet: For all her controlling attitude towards Maria, Lucifer has shown signs of genuinely caring about her and allows Maria to address her informally- no small thing for someone as utterly egotistical and proud as Lucifer is.

* MurderTheHypotenuse: Leviathan's reaction to Lucifer giving any attention to Maria? Attempt to kill her. [[SarcasmMode That's not a totally insane overreaction.]]
* NiceGirl: Maria is a total sweetheart. Her kindness even gets through to Lucifer.

* OjouRinglets: Mammon has this.
* OneeSama: Leviathan starts treating Lucifer as this almost immediately after meeting her, much to Lucifer's initial dismay.

* PointyEars: All demons, with the exception of Belphegor, have this.

* PsychoLesbian: Leviathan for her “OneeSama”. As soon as she meets Lucifer she starts ogling her body and molesting her, despite the fallen angel clearly telling her to stop. Then she attacks her for breaking her mental image of how Lucifer should be. After Lucifer effortlessly blocks her attacks, Levi starts molesting her again, because the fallen angel looked totally cool demonstrating just how strong she is. [[spoiler: Michael turns out to be one as well, secretly obsessed with Lucifer and twisted by her inability to reconcile her devotion to God with her feelings for Lucifer]].

* PunchClockVillain: Most of the Sins are basically just trying to fulfill their roles to gain followers to corrupt, other then that, they are mostly decent people on the inside who can be AffablyEvil.

* RockMeAsmodeus: Almost literally. Astaroth, the Sin of Melancholy, is a rock star who maintains a presence online.

* SexySpectacles: Belial is the only demon with glasses.

* ShrinkingViolet: Astaroth, Lord of Melancholy, suffers from crippling shyness and stage fright to the point she freezes up around other people. Lucifer uses it against her in their 'duel' when Astaroth panics at having to perform on stage.

* SmugSnake: Belial may talk big and call herself the leader of the Sins, but not only she seems to lack the power to back it up, the other demons don't care about following her lead. [[spoiler:Later subverted when she reveals that she has been stealing power from Lucifer, giving her enough strength to back up all her claims.]]
* SmugSuper: Unlike Belial, Lucifer ''does'' has the power to back up her claims.

* {{Stripperific}}: All demons with the exception of Beelzebub wear very little clothing, although Belial takes it [[UpToEleven too far]] on her second outfit. Unsurprsingly, the angels as well, with the exception of Sandalphon.

* TokenMiniMoe: Beelzebub for the demons, Sandalphon for the angels.

* VillainousFriendship: Belphegor has a genuine friendship with Astaroth, to the point of encouraging her to perform on stage in spite of her severe social anxiety and stage fright.

* WhoWearsShortShorts: Leviathan's barely cover her rear.
* WingedHumanoid: Similar to the demons horns, Angels have wings to represent their angel-hood, albeit on different parts of her bodies, for example, Raphael has hers on her hips while Metatron has her wings on her boots.

* WorthyOpponent: By the end of the first episode, Satan seems to view Lucifer as this, if the smile she has on her face while talking about the fallen angel means anything.

''Seven Mortal Sins'' or ''Sin: Nanatsu no Taizai'' is an anime from the 2017 Spring season based on a figure line from the creators of ''Anime/QueensBlade''.

* WorldOfBuxom: The only girls in the series with small breast are the TokenMiniMoe of each group. Everybody else has a breast size that varies between “moderately big” and “humongous”.

* {{Gainaxing}}: Given the [[{{Fanservice}} nature of the anime]], avoiding this trope would be impossible. Episode 3 provides one of the most blatant examples when Lucifer’s breasts bounce wildly when she ''calmly turns aside''.

Maria reminds her to slow down, so that she has time to spend with her children.

* RedAndBlackAndEvilAllOver: Subverted. The Mortal Sins would all qualify as villains, but the only ones that have both red and black in their outfits are Mammon, who has a FreudianExcuse, and Astaroth, who is the TokenGoodTeammate.

** '''Diligence''': Satan’s character shows that when Wrath is directed to the right way, it translates into a strong desire to see justice prevailing.
** '''Love''': Maria believes that Leviathan’s Envy is the proof that she really is in love with Lucifer, and maintains that feeling envy is natural and not a sin. In a roundabout way, she makes a similar argument about Mammon’s Greed, apparently thinking that it’s fine for her to desire to get richer if it is for the sake of others, though she says this in the context of calling her out for other things she did.
