* RuleOfSymbolism: Similarly to Togusa replacing his revolver in Franchise/GhostInTheShell, it's probably not a coincidence that both Maine start preferring Smart weapons over more traditional ballistic weapons as they go deeper and deeper into the throes of cyberpsychosis.

Deleted per thread.

* AnAesop:
** Communicate with your partner and be open about what's troubling you. Keeping secrets will only strain your relationship with your partner, and it can create misunderstandings that may lead to unwanted outcomes.
** Even in a hopeless place, build bonds with others (romantic or platonic). Those bonds will give you something worth fighting for and the impact they leave on others will be felt long after you're gone.
** There's no shame in knowing your limits. Pushing yourself beyond what you can handle may cause you to alienate yourself from others, and it will only lead you on a path to self-destruction.
** Just because you are legitimately special and better than others doesn’t make you invincible. Everyone has limits and even though yours are higher you still have them.
** When it comes to dealing with personal tragedy, abusing substances or cybernetics is not the answer. Reach out to those closest to you and take the time to debrief the moments that traumatize you with them.

* NormalFishInATinyPond: [[spoiler:While David's natural resistance to augmentation side effects are greater than the average person, he severely overestimates how far said resistances go, which eventually ends with him largely succumbing to cyberpsychosis. He believes that his heightened resistance makes him 1 in a million, but when he faces off against Adam Smasher, an ACTUAL 1 in a million, the difference in their abilities becomes very quickly apparent, leading to David's death.]]

* RuleOfRomantic: No, by the established rules of Braindances, David and Lucy's date on the moon could not have happened as shown. However, it's an incredibly touching sequence that sets up one of the anime's Signature Scenes, so it gets a pass.

Body Horror does not apply to Cybernetic Implants as shown in Cyberpunk 2077. Get it together guys.

* BodyHorror: Cybernetic augmentation gets creepy. It's particularly horrific the first few times David is modified, where he isn't even given anesthesia while the doctor carves his body open to install implants.

** The opening scene features a Cyber Psycho going on a rampage on Arasaka plaza. The final showdown with Adam Smasher also happens on the exact same spot.

** The most unexpected and notorious one is between the Cyber Psycho and since we don't even see the gun until after it happens.

* DoesThisRemindYouOfAnything: Fittingly for the setting, chroming is treated similarly to a drug addiction. You start off small, but eventually feel the need to keep adding more and more, even as your body can tolerate it less and less. And it'll eventually destroy your mind. And not helping things is David's insistence that he's different from everyone else, that he can handle it (rather similar to what a "functional" addict might say). spoiler:And while David indeed does have a higher than normal tolerance for augmentation, "tolerance" is the key word; eventually his heavy modding of his body catches up to him and he begins to go cyberpyscho like everyone else. For his part, Mike Pondsmith (the creator of the setting) has compared Cyberpsychosis to roid rage.

* TheDreaded: [=MaxTac=] and Trauma Team are particularly feared due to them being elite paramilitary units that are better off avoided. [=MaxTac=] in particular are specifically tasked with taking down cyberpsychos and rogue cyborgs. Edgerunners are also wary of taking jobs against the [=megacorps=] like Arasaka and Militech, since they have the money and resources to easily retaliate against edgerunners if they prove to be a large enough nuisance.

Arasaka and Militech, despite losing hundreds of troops, face no serious repercussions for their role in David's Cyberskeleton rampage. * PredatoryBigPharma: Biotechnica has more than a few shades of this, especially if the "Let You Down" video is any indication. During the video, Sasha Yakovleva learns while doing a hacking run against Biotechnica that their prescription painkiller Securicine was known to cause neurodegeneration, but that they did not disclose this side effect to the public, leading to the deaths of Sasha's mother and who knows how many others. This angers Sasha enough to leak the info about this to Network 54 at the cost of her life.

** The only exception to losing themselves in their cyberware is, of-course, [[spoiler:Adam Smasher, who thinks so being human is so overrated that his sanity is frighteningly intact, which is absolutely Sadist not a good thing for anyone on the wrong side of him.]]
** With David, we actually see his humanity drop slowly over the series. ** A separate line of dominoes is started by Arasaka counterintelligence teaming up with [[spoiler:Faraday as a double agent against Militech, who in turns convinces Kiwi to betray the crew, and together they lure and trap Lucy as a gift to Arasaka. Arasaka's plan to have David destroy the Militech commando fails, and instead he chases after Faraday and Lucy, bringing Medtech and Militech straight into Arasaka's doorstep. Their plan to use David as a test subject for the cyberskeleton also fails since David goes cyberpsycho before Arasaka is able to capture him.
