Aoba later awakens in the year 2088. The Confederate Treaty of Liberty Alliance (consisting of present day Ameica, Japan, Australia, and Western Europe) has gotten into war with Great Zogilia (consisting of present day China, Russia, and Eastern Europe.) Dio and company are a small fleet working for the Alliance and testing their new SuperPrototype, which allows two compatible pilots to synchronize and share their knowledge and skills. Oddly enough, Aoba happened to awaken in the mecha meant to couple with Dio's, and now he has to fight alongside the Alliance in the hopes of finding out what's happened to Hina, and if there's any chance of him returning to the past.

** Zogilia is also being compared to Dorsia, considering their use of younger albeit prodigious soldiers, militaristic uniforms, and use of a very germanic-sounding battlecry. The Alliance seems to be a combination of Jior and the ARUS from the same anime, only [[spoiler: minus the fact that the ARUS wound up as the bad guys.]] Other people are simply comparing them to [[Anime/MobileSuitGundam Zeon and the Federation]], minus the space travel aspects.

* CassandraTruth: Aoba is very open about the fact that he's from the future to TheFederation. TimeTravel being TimeTravel, they don't quite buy it.

* TheFederation: In true Sunrise fashion, most of western Europe, North America, South America, and Japan are all part of the Liberty Alliance.

* MyNameIsQuestionMarks: Hilariously, the credits of episode one lists the enemy pilot's seiyuu as ???, in an attempt to [[TheProducerThinksOfEverything to stop fans from piecing together his identity too early.]]

* {{Expy}}: Many people are comparing Aoba and Dio to [[Anime/ValvraveTheLiberator Haruto and L-Elf]], respectively, as Haruto and Aoba were both ordinary kids suddenly thrust into the center of a huge war and Dio and L-Elf are hardened soldiers and experienced pilots despite their age. [[spoiler: For Aoba's sake, we should pray that this show ends a little differently.]] Some people are also comparing Hina to Saki from the same show, but so far they only seem to be similar in design. The fact that the same studios worked on both shows does not help.

* TimeTravel: Aoba gets transported to the future in the first episode.
