The Youtube upload is not a digitization of the backup copy but rather a copy of the copy (just one of many made during the 1990s)

[[http://seanpaulmurphyville.blogspot.com/2020/04/birth-of-meme-big-bill-hells-explicit.html According to Sean Paul Murphy]], a Baltimore-based screenwriter and former advertising agency employee, the ad was originally made as part of the Ad Follies, a segment of an awards show for Baltimore marketing companies that lightly poked fun at the industry. Sean produced the show at WBFF Channel 45 along with long-time WBFF employee Jimmy Uhrin. While assembling the final package for the Ad Follies, Jimmy asked Sean if he had ever heard a parody radio commercial called "Big Bill Hell's", [[http://www.tomdantoni.com/2018/10/how-to-make-screaming-car-commercialnot.html created by Tom D'Antoni]], a writer for a competing ad agency, after a recording session for a real car dealership commercial ([[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x8IdILAupF8 this one]], in all likelihood). Upon hearing it, Sean insisted that it had to be part of the Ad Follies, and the two hurriedly edited together a video version of the radio ad using stock footage. Only two copies were made, as it was made without the permission of D'Antoni, but somehow the backup copy left at WBFF escaped and was eventually leaked to Website/YouTube in 2006, where it would ascend to memetic levels.

One such copy was eventually leaked uploaded to Website/YouTube in 2006, where it would ascend to memetic levels.
