A second season was confirmed at San Diego Comic-Con 2015. It began on September 22nd of 2015 and will continue even after the events of ''Halo 5: Guardians''.

* ContinuityPorn: Whoever's running this show loves their ''{{Franchise/Halo}}'' mythos. We've got Benjamin Giraud, our protagonist, straight from the ''ComicBook/HaloGraphicNovel'', Michael Sullivan from ''Film/Halo4ForwardUntoDawn'', references to a ''VideoGame/Halo3ODST'' comic, and of course Master Chief's original origin from the books weaved into the plot, and many more besides. Episode 8 also showed that Mshak knew about the [[Anime/HaloLegends two SPARTAN-II escapees that killed themselves once they met their clones.]]

** The ''Hunt the Truth'' advertising campaign features Benjamin Giraud, the previously unnamed ONI photojournalist from the ''ComicBook/HaloGraphicNovel'' story ''Second Sunrise Over New Mombasa''. After nearly nine years, that's quite a dig through continuity.

** Benjamin Giraud actually is a returning character from the ''Halo'' canon. He first appeared, unnamed, in the ''ComicBook/HaloGraphicNovel'', as a photographer [[{{VideoGame/Halo 2}} who's in New Mombasa when the Covenant attacked]]. The comic ends with him giving up his place on a lifeboat for another survivor, [[BolivianArmyEnding making it seem as though he died in the city]]. With no followup to the story since 2006, most fans expected he was dead, and never thought once thought he'd come back being played by the comedy star [[Series/KeyAndPeele Keegan Michael-Key]].

*** That said, the only humans we've seen in the post-war period with any sort of awareness of the Spartan-[=IIs'=] true origins are either elite members of the regular military (such as high-ranking officers and Spartan-[=IVs=]) or actual ONI personnel, and it's likely that the general public was kept in the dark about whatever was declassified to the UNSC military; in fact, ''New Blood'' showed that even among the [=ODSTs=], awareness of the [=IIs'=] true origins were spread primarily through rumors. Since this is the first piece of ''Halo'' media featuring a primarily civilian perspective to be set in the post-war verse, the fanbase really had no idea coming in what the general in-universe public did or didn't know.

** [[spoiler:Deon Govender, one of the people ONI set Giraud up to interview, was revealed to have died seven years prior; the man that Giraud interviewed was apparently once a homeless drunk.]]

* ItsPersonal / RayOfHopeEnding: [[spoiler: At the end of the last episode, ONI finally lays their hands on Ben. But Petra picks up on where he left off, just as determined to bring ONI down.]]

* ArcWords: [[spoiler: Glassed Planets Have Bad Records.]]

* TheBadGuyWins: In the final episode, [[spoiler: ONI manages to convince Giraud's sources to turn on him, and release the second video that exonerates the Chief. Because of this, Giraud is publicly humiliated and taken away. Also see RayOfHopeEnding below.]]

* ShoutOut: The sheer power ONI wields and the things they can do, plus the fact that they're an implacable organization, seems to reference ''Literature/NineteenEightyFour'', and it's easy to see Winston's struggle as similar to Ben's. Oh, and [[spoiler: both stories don't end well for the protagonist at all.]]
