Licky Lindsay: am I correct in assuming that (in later fiction, not necessarily in actual history) Americans make little or no distinction between this and The Gay '90s?

RossN: The difference between The Gay '90s and The Edwardian Era (besides actual history obviously) seems to be that the former was 'properous and wild' (like The Roaring '20s) while the later was 'prosperous and conservative and troubled' (like The '50s).

The Edwardian Era began with a major ongoing war in Africa (British vs. Boers), a war just finished between the USA and Spain and the Boxer Rebellion in China. It ended with revolutions in China, Portugal and Mexico, an arms race between Britain and Germany and an Italian invasion of North Africa. That's even without running it up to the start of World War One.
