Rescued by Google Magic, but couldn't recreate the index at the bottom.

Furry Kef: I seem to recall a Popeye cartoon with the line "Aha! It's the butler!" But I forget all the other context. I don't think the short was really a murder mystery, at least on the whole.

Ununnilium: Taking out the definition of Dead Unicorn Trope. Also:

  • The Westing Game partially plays this straight: The victim did it, and one of his alternate identities is a butler. Or, well, a doorman. Close enough.
    • Well, considering thatthe 'victim' isn't really dead in the first place, the butler didn't do it.

This has so many "Well, except that"s that it doesn't seem to be an example at all.

  • To some extent, any science fiction story where the robot or AI is the murderer, although this is very rarely played as a mystery due to AI being so very prone to fail.

...what? How is that this trope?

No, really. This aired yesterday, but it still mocked something that never happened.

  • Well considering that Agatha Christie really did use this dead unicorn trope a few times, this troper thinks that the comment was appropriate.
