Tomatina: It's possible that the "telepathic sprinklers" idea got started from fire alarms, or maybe even smoke detectors. I'm not sure whether they sense each other or they're just picking up on the same smoke, but many times when one smoke detector goes off, all the nearby ones starts screaming 0.25 seconds later. It's definitely true in the case of fire alarms; yank the lever or open an alarmed emergency door, and every klaxon in the building starts blaring.
