From YKTTW Working Title: One Stat to Rule Them All
Number87: I'm pretty sure we had something like Standard RPG Stats, but now i can't find it. Did it never get launched?
Warlock: Actually, I'd say the trope is more something like Most Tabletop Game Writers Are Not Athletic. They overvalue dexterity because they don't have much themselves.
Wyvernil: Perhaps we can expand this trope to a general Speed Kills trope for games; which would also cover speedster characters in fighting games which are top-tier due to their speed.
Vampire Buddha: Few RPG Writers Are Gymnasts?
Karalora: Apparently we don't have Dump Stat either. This must be rectified!
turnerjer: Oh, and Dump Stat is a must-have. Its application could spread far beyond just RPGs.
Shale: Dump Stat is definitely a must-have, but a game version of Speed Kills would be a subtrope of this, not a replacement, unless you want to tell me how Wisdom in Planescape: Torment and Special in Pokemon fall under Speed Kills.
Kefkakrazy:I removed "Regular people apparently have DEX 20 in HERO System (starting value is 10). A particularly unagile person might have DEX 15. Since it governs speed, attack rolls, defense rolls, and agility skills, no wonder." It was a reply to the still-existing HERO example. Removed because it is utterly wrong-a normal human has a score of ten-that's what all the starting values mean-and the book specifically says that a 20 DEX is getting close to human peak. 10/15 are a bit low by superhuman standards, but they're normal and extremely good, respectively, for normal humans. I could have replied, but I don't see any way to rewrite it to be accurate and I don't want to threadmode a relatively unimportant example.
