Looney Toons: Morgan, I reverted your change mainly because it's funnier the way it was -- the idea that a family can actually have the statistical average 2.4 kids still gives me a chuckle after all these years. (Come to think of it, I seem to recall a scene in the book The Phantom Tollbooth -- or a book like it -- where the main character meets the .4 child of a statistically-average family...) And why not have the link to the British sitcom?

Morgan Wick: Well, for one, it implies that it's linking to a trope, and for another, it's pointless, and only makes sense in the sense that it's nonsensical, if that makes any sense.

The reference can stay, but unless we can find a more centralized place to put the statistic...

Ununnilium: I disagree. Linking to the series makes sense because it's all about this trope - it's even named after it, in a way.

Morgan Wick: Then copiously linking to this trope from it is okay. But when you're linking to it from the main body of the trope page - without making it obvious that it's a show, no less - you're elevating it to a level where you're essentially calling it the "definitive source" in a way, if you get what I'm getting at. Not only is this arguably one of The Oldest Ones in the Book, but the show, if I recall, is currently described as one of those British Guilty Pleasures.

Ununnilium: Again, I disagree. It's just a funny and appropriate link, and it just doesn't seem -- to me, anyway -- to be implying anything else.

Morgan Wick: Okay, now I'm being stubborn here, but... Name me one other place where a link is to a show, in the main text, and the text of the link is not the name of the show italicized, or else the name of one of the characters or something else that is unmistakably related to that show and nothing else (for example, I could link to Buffy or Homer and that's okay).

Seth: Your taking this a little too seriously, most readers of this site are here for laughs and it is funnier this way. Also I'm of the opinion the whole PM wiki thing needs as many links as possible to be effective. I'd say keep it but i am biased in that i really liked 2.4Children
