-Z-: speaking of chrono trigger, I think it's kind of funny how the party aside from ayla turns useless in that scene, given how by that point in the game everyone but her and robo have magic, and robo's lasers are good enough for spekkio's appraisal, so it's not like they can't do anything at all about the guards.

Pteryx: Seems like this is two-thirds justification. Why is this here?

Sunder The Gold: It definitely shows that this didn't go through the YKTTW gauntlet first. I even found it on my Competitive Balance page, where it really didn't fit.

Still, it prodded me into remembering something I've been thinking about. When a game as more statistics than "big/strong" and "small/fast", The Mario changes. In a game with magic as a stat, the Mario balances strength, speed, and magic, and the Squishy Wizard joins the crew. But if The Mario is now at the center of a triangle, there's no one sitting in the middle of the big/small sliding scale.

Put it another way, perhaps there needs to be an opposite to the Squishy Wizard — the Dumb Jock. Not necessarily big or small, fast or strong, but definitely physical to the exclusion of magic or whatnot.

Master Knight: To be honest, I didn't know about the YKTTW gauntlet.

Of course, I think Captain Falcon in Super Smash Bros is a candidate: he has high speed and decent power, but he has no projectiles. Although, of course, projectiles don't entirely mean a lot in Smash.

Ninjacrat: So a barefisted monk is a character who is average at combat but doesn't have magic but is like a Glass Cannon but has better endurance but doesn't use equipment but has poor defense but is beginner friendly but not powerful.

And all the examples are just characters who are monks.

Right. Somebody who knows what the page is actually meant to be can try to repair it, or it's total rewrite time.

(later: Whelp, had a shot at it. My hat goes off to all those brave souls who looked deep within themselves and found examples to a trope that was complete gibberish).
