Prfnoff: I'm surprised nobody bothered to correct my misuse of the term Affectionate Parody until I did just now. (I don't think Satire/Parody/Pastiche had been created yet when I first did the example.)
Actually, in one of the Mangler movies, it did become mobile. I remember, because I was mad it killed one of the interesting characters. Of course, the fact the character -was- interesting was a death sentence...sigh. Stupid bad writing.
P.S. The Vertigo comic book series has killer furniture. Sort of. Apparently the bad guys knew -just- how to rearrange your home furniture so you'd go nuts and kill people. They couldn't do it in my house, there's no room to rearrange.
Nornagest: I wonder if there's a connection between the carnivorous butterfly from Monster Warriors and the slake-moths from China Mievelle's Perdido Street Station? Certainly the principle seems similar.
