Curtmack: Does anybody have any crackpot theories on who or what the two children at the end are supposed to be?

Dentaku: Before the discussion on the main page goes totally out of hand, I'd just like to say that my insistence on a Downer Ending has nothing to do with cynicism. I love the series and I thought the ending is really very emotional. It's just - someone dies and for the ones left behind that's basically it. It doesn't matter to them whether they are reincarnated. The person Misuzu as she is introduced in the series - complete with her mannerisms and quirks - will be gone forever, no matter what happens to her "soul" afterward. And this is pretty sad for a lead character. I would call it a Bitter Sweet Ending if Misuzu somehow returned as she was before, perhaps even as a daughter to Haruko or what not. But nothing like that is indicated in the series.

Muninn: Took out this for the time being. I'm doubtful of how well it applies (sure, Yukito may be absent for half the series, but he's not completely passive), the contributor who added this seemed to be making mass edits that were complaining about Kyo Ani's version of the story, and it's not even the right trope (If this does get added back in, it should be Pinball Protagonist).

  • Designated Hero: Yukito in the series. He just goes in some random direction, meets some random girl, says some commonplace phrases – and somehow it's exactly the right words in the right place at the right time. And what if he finally misses the right place and time? Right, he's taken back in time and apperas in the right place at the right time once again.
    • Not so in the movie, where he has to make some real choices and do some ass-kicking.
