Lale: Beth's death would be Creator Breakdown, which is a sub-category of Real Life Writes the Plot. As for laurie, he was based on two people named Alfred Whitman and Ladislas Wisnewski, not Ralph Waldo Emerson.

Lale: "Amelia"? Where did that come from?

It was Meg's counterpart's husband who died before Little Men; Alcott wrote said book partially to support her and her sons.

Lale: I realize Nan is a nickname for Annie; Jo calls her "little Annie Harding" the first time she is mentioned, but after that, in both books, when she's ten- and twenty-years-old, up until the last page of Jo's Boys, the only name anyone ever calls her by is "Nan."

Beth does die, in a heartbreaking Tear Jerker of a chapter.

  • She's not named for Beth, but Daisy actually is a better match for Beth personality-wise. She is the sweet homemaker like Beth was, to the point her grandmother calls her Beth until Bess comes along.

A) She's not named for Beth. Yes, she is.

B) her grandmother calls her Beth until Bess comes along. Like, where?

Betty and Veronica:

I thought: Betty = housewifely, traditional, Yamato Nadeshiko type; Veronica = tomboyish, strong-willed, Tsundere-ish type.

Or is it: Betty = friendly, laid back; and Veronica = sophisticated, Rich Bitch-like, The Libby-ish?
