BritBllt: Removing...

  • Your Mileage May Vary - Superman Returns was seen as a modest success that received decent nods from the critics, but was also widely criticized or ignored by the public and essentially killed the franchise before it could happen.

For one thing, Your Mileage May Vary on everything, so that trope probably shouldn't be listed for any work. This particular example, though, is written as a subtle Viewers Are Morons jab, when I'm pretty sure lots of critics also had issues with the movie. Since amending it to include negative movie reviews would just make it Captain Obvious ("some critics and fans liked the movie, and others didn't!"), I'd just leave it off entirely.

Phartman: I remember the reviews, and the average was 2 and a half stars. It's really the studio that killed the franchise, since they made money off it, just not the great shitload they were hoping for. That's why I'm glad the movie can serve as a decent enough final chapter for the classic franchise as is. Odds are if they eventually do reboot it, they'll probably turn Supes into a brooding, angsty guy with a black leather jumpsuit or some such crap instead of simply adding a villain that can survive getting punched through a building; which is all Superman Returns really lacked.
