Pros and Cons of "The Girl Who Knew Too Much"

SPOILERS!!!

I got cut off from watching the last few seconds of the show right when Stiles burst into the room to see Jennifer further stab his dad. I'll fix the problem soon, but I can't give a opinion on any thing that happened after that moment

Pros: The title, The Man Who Knew Too Much was one of my favorite movies as a kid, I think I accept Scott/Allison/Isaac as an OT 3 now, STILINSKI FAMILY FEELS PEOPLE! ALL OF THEM, "Mom would have believed me," it was so Mood Whiplash -y, 'cause there was the chess stuff and that was hilarious, and then PAIN, I loved how they developed the alpha twins here, their backstory and relationship have been fleshed out! And we get a feel for their motivations, and with Danny and Lydia in the picture it was just lovely, YAY MY IRRATIONAL HATRED OF JENNIFER IS JUSTIFIED, yep that's right she's the Darach and Derek officially has the worst taste in women EVER, I think they intentionally made her Derek's love interest to rile up the Sterek fans so no one would see this coming, or something like that, anyway, I usually hate plot twists, but I was pretty much behind that, Allison was awesome guys, seriously, she, Stiles and Lydia should open a detective agency, actually I'm off to write fic about that right now, Lydia is a BANSHEE, because you know, they wail when people die, oh god it makes sense! I LOVE IT, so it looks like Stiles/Cora is gonna be a thing, yep, she was invented for the Sterek shippers, like "Hey, we won't have Stiles with Derek, but here's another Hale to appease you!" I don't even mind, finally repercussions from the deaths of the sacrifices and Boyd, they mentioned the FBI again! Mr. Argent was a boss! Stiles was amazing as usual, Lydia and Scott's moment was very nice

Cons: Derek lost major awesome points, unless he was under some sort of spell, he was all, "I'm going to flounce off and leave a bunch of teenagers (and my sister!) to cope on their own, then flirt with my girlfriend," get it together bro, Scott and Morell's conversation was so hammy, Cora's little speech was so annoying, Lydia going off on her own, really? Even if it really were Aiden, are you sure that's the best idea? What's up with Cora? They never told us what's wrong with her, I'm not sure it makes sense that Jennifer is the Darach, but fuck if I really care, the show really needs to stop crapping on Derek

Not entirely sure what Tyler Hoechlin did to piss off Jeff Davis, but Derek is being written as a complete and utter idiot this season. If that (b)witch he's been dating did something to reduce his intelligence and/or ensnare his mind then it is somewhat forgivable. We have to assume that a good roll in the hay ought not be enough to get Derek's guard down after what happened with Kate. If it is, then he is Too Dumb To Live.

This episode was novel in that it didn't really seem to center on any single character, which kind of left things bouncing around a bit. Even Scott himself was mostly an instrument to getting exposition out of people (mainly Ethan and Ms. Morrell).

So, Lydia's power is the ability to scream for help louder than other potential supernatural murder victim in Beacon Hills? Handy. Who says heart is a lame power?

Still a little vague on the Alphas and aging. Aiden and Ethan, being young-looking enough to pass for high school students, would have probably been the low men on their pack's totem pole anyway by virtue of youth unless they are a lot Older Than They Look. That being the case, how long ago was their little rebellion and why would they become Deucalion's lapdogs so willingly if their previous Alpha was such a monster? Wouldn't the lesson be: be your own leader?

Continuing the game of Idiot Ball was Stiles, who forgot the small detail that Melissa Mc Call knows about the werewolves and that if he needed adult corroboration of what he was trying to tell his father he should have pointed him at her. For that matter, it would not have hurt for her to taken the initiative and told him on her own. After all, she has to deal with the wounded from all these supernatural escapades.

Aiden and Ethan were having some serious irony here. Aiden is down on Ethan being needlessly involved with Danny, meanwhile he himself was spilling almost as much information to Lydia as Ethan did to Scott and Stiles! If anyone has a problem with Distracted By The Sexy it is him, not his brother. Although Ethan does seem to be flirting with a Heel Face Turn due to Danny. I just wish the But Not Too Gay trope was not in play here. Lydia and Aiden act like two self-respecting teenagers having a suitably torrid, illicit love affair. Danny and Ethan act like an old married couple. Other than product placement, why give Danny a mint if you're not going to kiss him Ethan?

Essentially the episode, while action-packed, involved a lot of people being really stupid and/or not sharing information well. Also, did Dr. Deaton flee town or what? You would think that he and Ms. Morrell would be more on top of this Darach problem, especially since Deaton himself nearly ended up as a sacrifice. Clearly they are not untouchable observers here. Everybody else seems to be bending over backward to not get it. The teenagers can be forgiven by virtue of youth (that may or may not include Aiden and Ethan). But the Adults Are Useless, if only by virtue of all keeping secrets from the kids and each other. No wonder Jennifer and Deucalion have free run of the chess board.

I want to like it more than I actually did like it. It is becoming more and more obvious that Jeff Davis just likes putting sadism onscreen and that the plot and characterization need not be well strung together as long as he can tie the events together. Which makes this a bit of a soap opera.

I really enjoued the hell out of this episode, but everyone has their own reaction. I feel like I'm probably the fan who hated "Currents" the nost.

The main problem with this season is how it's plot is drama driven instead of being written with coherence and logic in mind. Characters do stupid and even out of character things, because otherwise we would miss out on angst or meanful moments. There wouldn't have been as many Stilinski family feels of Stiles had gone to Melissa, etc.

A lot of people think that Paige moght be

I was not trying to submit the above comment. I'm typing on my phone which leads to typos and mistakes.

Anyway, what do you think of the theory that Jennifer = Paige? I don't think it's likely. Also, in last episode's next time trailer, we saw Derek, Scott, Stiles and JENNIFER walking through a corridor. How can that happen?

I think we see more of Ethan and Danny being adorable and more of Lydia and Aiden getting it on because we're supposed to believe the former are in love and the latter are more physical. But I'd love a more hardcore sexy gayness scene.

Where IS Deaton? I didn't even think of that.

Well, I'm excited to see how this part of the season closes out.

As Yoda would say: "There is no why."

As you note, this is all plot-driven, not continuity or logic driven. We (the audience) are apparently not meant to question why the characters act a certain way or do certain things. We are merely supposed to accept it because the it is needed to setup the scenes. Beyond that any kind of continuity should be ignored, as should the assumption that any of the characters are in any way intelligent.

The Jennifer/Paige thing is as plausible as any theory at this point. Given her hideous true form there is some implication that she is actually undead or something not dissimilar.

In the preview I saw on You Tube, Jennifer is "trapped" in the hospital and Deucalion is threatening mass-murder unless she's handed over to him. She, of course, is turning to Team Mc Call to protect her, using the fact that Cora has some mysterious ailment that only she can cure as a bargaining chip (along with having the Sheriff as a hostage).

Now, there are obvious issues with this. For starters, we have already seen that, as the Darach, she seems to be able to magically transport herself from place to place very rapidly. She even managed to carry off the Sheriff! So whether she can fly or else move like a werewolf can is unclear, but how the Alphas could corner her is questionable. Second, as we saw in the last few minutes of this episode, she can really kick some @$$ with her magic! She took down Scott effortlessly! Third, the Alphas already had her "prisoner" once before, when they used her as a hostage to get Derek to fight Kali solo. They walked away and left her free at the end.

So either Deucalion was as slow on the uptake as everyone else when it came to figuring out that she was the Darach, which seems unlikely. Or else the whole thing is a big sham and has something to do with his goal of controlling/corrupting Scott, which seems more likely. Odds are as good that she is in cahoots with him as anything else.

Next week's big tension being that Derek needs to save Cora, Scott needs to save his mother and Stiles needs to save his father - and all these goals may be at cross-purposes.

On the Dethan front, I would have settled for even just a kiss. According to Aiden, Danny and Ethan hold hands, but we have never seen it. They are like a flashback to the very sanitized TV gay couples of 80's and 90's! That is *not* meant in a positive way!

Deaton's absence is another continuity gap. Presumably it was to require Scott to go to Ms. Morrell for some exposition as opposed to Deaton. But seeing as how it has been proven that the Darach/Jennifer can hurt them as well, Deaton and Morrell's seeming neutrality is very peculiar. Is Morrell still around because she is involved with the Alpha Pack, and so is Jennifer? That would account for Deaton being the only one MIA.

Meanwhile, we are *still* waiting for a motivation for the Alpha *Pack*. Not just Deucalion. His goals seem pretty straightforward. What is unclear is why the other Alphas follow him when he treats them like Betas, or in the case of the twins Omegas. If Scott had any kind of brain (he doesn't) he would have pointed that detail out to Ethan during their conversation. The twins really seem to benefit little from serving Deucalion, and Kali and Ennis were also questionable. What holds the pack together remains to be revealed. The members have Alpha *powers*, but not Alpha *personalities*.

This under-developed continuity is really bugging me.

Exactly! That' how I've felt about this whole season. I really enjoy the emotions, but trying to think about it logically makes my brain hurt.

Oh, that actually sounds intriguing. I'm a little bit of a sadist towards stupid people, so I'm really looking forward to seeing Derek have to face his recent life choices. And Stiles was holding a baseball bat. How could that not be awesome? And we're also lining up to get some awesome angst.

But yeah, they better have a good explanation for why Jennifer can't teleport and use magic to get out of the situation. Maybe her powers are fueled by the moon. All of her victims were killed at night after all.

I just had a thought: are we ever going to figure out how Jennifer and Harris knew each other, or was that just throw away?

Yep. It's like because they're ~mysterious~ Deaton and Morell can just pop in and out of the story with no rhyme or reason.

Completely agree about the alpha pack. They do have well rounded personalities, which is a credit to the show, but yeah, their motives make no sense.

Well, for me it's like I really enjoy the episodes (accept for "Currents," during which I was cursing loudly consistently) but the the plot holes just hang over everything and steal some of ny feels. I don't like it!

Well, Deucalion has been oddly disinterested in Jennifer's Darach activities to date. "The apex of apex predators" would normally be expected to be territorial unless he already had some kind of arrangement with the interloper on his territory. But other than a brief bit of advice to Scott, which was seemingly motivated by a desire to test Scott's potential to be an Alpha, Deucalion and the Alpha Pack have not been intervening in the Darach's activities. Even, it should be noted, after the incident at the motel, which could have led to the death of Ethan. So again, either a continuity gap or Deucalion is involved with her in some way.

Now he only takes interest when a confrontation could put pressure on Scott to do something drastic. Suddenly getting Jennifer back in his hands is important enough for him to make a public spectacle.

The preview shows that the hospital scenes happen at night as well. So not sure about that being linked to her magic. As for Harris, we may never get an explanation (just like we did not about the hotel). However, he is promiscuous and a bit of a drunk. That was how Kate Argent got his help in planning the Hale House fire. So maybe Jennifer just flat-out seduced him? She seems to be into that.

I hope the twinks...er...I mean twins, realize that they are just glorified Omegas and do a Heel Face Turn. Just wish the season was being more tightly written. They are making a lot of leaps in the narrative to make things happen, without providing any reason. This leaves things rather disjointed. Also, the failure of characters to communicate well, a problem through the series, continues to be vexing. You would think they would have learned by now.

Huh. Well, I hoped we'd discover that Jennifer was evil so her motives would make sense (and I really didn't think it would happen), so maybe they'll follow through on this.

Aw. I like having my theories come true! I saw someone with the theory that her power grows with each victim, and she became beautiful from killing the virgins. So maybe her powers can be taken away somehow.

Yeah, she does seem to like that. The bitch.

I've been waiting for their Heal Face Turn since they started dating Lydia/Danny. I feel like they might become a permanent fixture on the show. I mean, alpha twins who can merge into one? Too good to pass up.

I think I'm writing a fic where in all the characters become friends for the greater good. Yep.
