Now that the Internet Backdraft trope is considered Flame Bait, it should be removed from this page. The rest of the website is doing the same thing.
Since the page is locked, I'd like to expand a few entries into the page:
- Awesome Music: "Love Me Like You Do", sang by Ellie Goulding. The song is universally acclaimed and agreed to be much sexier than the actual movie thanks to the writing and Goulding's performance.
- Tough Act to Follow: Every songs in the sequels will have to live up to "Love Me Like You Do", as evidence by the significantly less successful sales of "I Don't Want To Live Forever".
I wish this could be edited. The "Ask E.L. James" burns were hilarious.
ᜇᜎᜈ᜔ᜇᜈ᜔|I DO COMMISSIONS|ᜇᜎᜈ᜔ᜇᜈ᜔Hilarious in Hindsight: It was always debatable if Christian's tastes are as "singular" as he claims, considering that even before the Internet BDSM was one of the most common kinks around. Now, when the Fifty Shades books have sold millions and millions of copies and have legions of fans eager to try the stuff in the book, Christian might as well have the Dark Secret that he likes watching porn movies.
Isn't this technically Seinfeld Is Unfunny?
There's a typo in the Nightmare Fuel section of the YMMV section. "the a relationship to aspire to"
Can a moderator please add Snark Bait to this page, given the book really broke out because people wanted to see how bad it was?
Hide / Show Replies... well, that's simply not true. It broke out because people unironically wanted to read it and wanted tanging off material.
I mean, Snark Bait can still apply, but that's grossly overstating it.
Edited by Larkmarn Found a Youtube Channel with political stances you want to share? Hop on over to this page and add them. For Author Avatar on the YMMV page: James's initials are indeed E.L., but it's really surprising how many names beginning with or containing E.L. exist in this series:
- Ella, Christian's birth mother.
- Elliot Grey, Christian's adopted older brother.
- Elena Lincoln, Christian's statutory rapist and the person who first exposed him to BDSM.
- Also, Elena's initials, like James's, are E.L.
- The name of Leila, Christian's Broken Bird Psycho Ex-Girlfriend, is basically "Ella" with an "I" added.
Just an observation, but, most real world practitioners of BDSM actively hate this book, since a healthy BDSM relationship is Safe, Sane, and Consensual and the depiction of BDSM in this series pretty much hits every aspect of Bondage Is Bad aside from the fact it's depicting what's going on as a positive, Fetish Fuel activity. So, perhaps an expansion to Internet Backdraft and/or Unfortunate Implications is valid?
Hide / Show RepliesThat does not appear to qualify for either trope, and the citation for UI is missing. So, I think not.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanI do believe we should put in Critical Dissonance into the page concerning the movie as, despite the fact that it made nearly $250 million worldwide, critics tore the living hell out of this movie.

"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanSince this page is locked, the discussion part is the best place to put this. I feel this should be added to the page, under Unfortunate Implications. It's an article detailing how, despite Anastasia's state age being 21, the book is actually about pedophilia:
Based on that and other articles, this is not an uncommon belief. Such things cited include the fact that Anastasia has zero sexual experience, including masturbation, that she is described as wearing pigtails, speaks about childish subjects such as cartwheels and skipping, and is told by Christian Grey (her abuser, if you take this theory) what to wear, what to eat, and how to speak.
I think it's very interesting, and worth adding to the page.
Flying a plane is no different from riding a bicycle; it's just a lot harder to put baseball cards in the spokes. Hide / Show RepliesShould Designated Hero go here? On the Designated Hero page there is a piece arguing why Christian Grey is one.
Now that the trailer is out, I motion that we put the Crazy in Love redux as Crowning Music Of Awesome. It just grabs you.
Hide / Show RepliesSure, although you'll need to write up a more detailed example, and then ask for it to be added here.

A potential addition.
