- That trope involves death (though Tropes Are Flexible).
- I hesitate to describe the Mane Sis's friendship as bromance.
- Most importantly, it isn't a huge turning point in the story and doesn't change Twilight forever.
Adults Are Useless: Cheerilee breaks up the fight just by talking about ten seconds of episode time after it starts, much of which time is spent showing the reaction on the Discord statue. They don't just spontaneously stop, like the current example description suggests. I think that's pretty effective. Better than "doing something physically", too. Removing (again).
Edited by VVKIs there any trope regarding the colour shifts? something akin to the hero's jewelery goes dark when they go evil or subvert things? Ought to apply here.
Can we please stop using Mind Rape? Discord does not use any Mind Rape, just mind control and More than Mind Control
Arguably the personality shift Discord caused in Rarity was already there from the start, as it was shown in Sonic Rainboom that she can become quite self-absorbed if given something shiny enough or enough praise from a lot of people. She also has an obsession with gems, so arguably Discord simply brought out those negative aspects of her personality, rather than forcing a 180 change.
Arguably he also did that to Pinkie Pie and Rainbow Dash, as Pinkie has been shown to be insecure about how her friends feel about her (since causing happiness is ostensibly her life's goal, if her friends don't want to be with her then clearly she has no purpose) and Dash has been tempted before to abandon her friends for some other goal. While Applejack can lie (and is shown to be a Bad Liar) its not something that comes up much as she's very trustworthy; and Discord had to cheat with Fluttershy.
After a whole season of Slice Of Life? I think so, considering just how badly the ponies were beaten.
I feel like something can be said for the moment when Twilight helps Rarity out with her worthless boulder and she says "Thanks, Twilight." Twilight is in the middle of brightly replying "You're welcome!" when she's interrupted by Rarity's greed once again asserting itself. It's after that brief moment of relief is crushed when Twilight realizes how messed up her friends have gotten.
I don't think it could be called a Hope Spot but there must be something that applies to this.
Hide / Show RepliesPerhaps a subtitle Hope Spot or hint of Fighting from the Inside...I'm not sure to be honest.
I think the Hope Spot is when she's carrying the rock herself, clinging to the idea that meeting up with Rainbow Dash will make everything better... and then she sees her flying away...
Perhaps Yank the Dog's Chain? Since it seems to give her a little hope, and then pulling it out from under her?
Am I the only one who feels that Discord may also be a homage to Him from Powerpuff Girls? Both are "silly on the surface" villains who love psychologically torturing their enemies and trying to break them using their reality warping powers. To my knowledge, that wasn't part of Q's character.
Why can't the Tragic Bromance trope be used to describe Twilight Sparkle's friends falling under Discord's mind control, resulting in them being no longer friends with Twilight?
