Hi, i'm an Indonesian, & this might as well be an example.

Yesterday, the recapitulation of President Election just finished, & the losing contestant choose to resign from the election just as the vote result isn't tipping on his favor.

Google it. [Indonesia president election 2014]

Greetings,

this trope is No Real Life Examples, Please! so we can't add it. And it's preferable if you don't add it on the discussion page, either.

The page mentions Idra, who I agree takes ragequitting in Starcraft 2 a little too far. But that brings up a question: wouldn't all pro Starcraft 2 players technically fall under this trope? Never have I seen a pro-level game end without the loser saying "gg" and then quitting out of the game before it's over. Wouldn't that still technically qualify as a ragequit?

I think that would. Dunno if Blizz qualify disconnecting as loss, though. If they do, then it certainly does qualify.

I...actually ragequit a cutscene once. Persona 4's hot springs scene was just dripping with so much stupidity that I actually threw my controller and then killed myself in a random encounter the first chance I got.

The XVM-Mod has led to more ragequitting before the match even started in World of Tanks, since it gives a win chance for both teams. Note that teams with a "win chance" of 5-20% still manage to win regularly.

This might be a bit crass, but wouldn't seppuku count as a real life example of rage quitting? I remember hearing a lot of civilians chose this method of suicide rather than surrendering during World War 2.

No, because it's done for entirely different reasons. Rage quit is "Fuck you, I'm not gonna give you the satisfaction of actually winning!"

Seppuku is more along the lines of, "You've beaten me fair and square. This is the only way I can atone for my failure."

Wouldn't some forms of suicide causes be caused out of spite, such as someone with Borderline Personality Disorder did it to piss someone off?

Possibly, strategic nuclear war is ragequitting, especially if one side starts attacking cities first due to losing the conventional war. "Screw you, I'm not going to let you win!" Note that here, both sides still *lose*.

What about non-gameplay reasons, such as in-game chat turning into insults and flame wars? Having your character take an in-game beating is one thing, getting verbally abused by the player him/herself is another. I've ragequitted quite frequently due to overwhelming Jerkass presence.

Used to be a Neopets player (quit because I was sick of the other players' attitudes), and there's a game in the game called Key Quest. It was super-prone to people ragequitting when they were about to lose, so the mods had to put a rule in place that anyone quitting a Key Quest game would be banned from the site for a certain amount of time. To the surprise of absolutely nobody, this didn't stop quitters or cheaters. In fact, I used to purposefully ragequit on cheaters to spite them. In other words, I was the Batman of Key Quest, only instead of taking out criminal scum with fisticuffs and gadgets, I just ran away at the last possible second instead.

I've ragequit SEVERAL times when playing World 4-7 in Yoshi's Island DS. It ended up coming to its logical conclusion: I was just about to FINALLY get past the second section of the level (with the F***ING Bumpties and Bouncies), when a F***ING Bumpty knocked me off the platform that led to the pipe that led to the next checkpoint, causing me to die and having to start the ENTIRE section over. At this point, I threw up my hands and decided that I would never play the game again, because I could never get past that part.

BOOM. Ah, frig, the fourth wall was broken AGAIN.

I ended up rage quitting my Pokemon Mystery Dungeon game one time....I've narrowly avoided doing so in some of my other games since then....

Valve recently added an achievement that can only be unlocked if you complete a whole game of VS without quitting, which is them addressing/poking fun at rage quitting. Would that fit on the page or is that for troper tales?

How can you not tell? It's a dude throwing a table, presumably because he's lost whatever game he's playing.

I have a different question. Why is there a yelling face under the ragequitter's foot?

I think the image would be greatly improved by a caption which indicates that the game in question is Go. It's very intricate for its size, and without some idea of what's going on it takes a long time to parse. If you are tipped off that he's playing Go, it provides a ready explanation for all the black dots, which makes the image a lot easier to understand.

Each night, he abandons the trappings of civilization. Each morning, he repairs the front door. Hide / Show Replies

I don't think that's really necessary. People might not know what Go is in the first place. But they generally will be able to put together "Okay, this guy flipping a table is the picture on Rage Quit, so he was probably playing some sort of game." The fact it's Go that they were playing isn't terribly important.

Well, The whole image felt like a Big-Lipped Alligator Moment for me. I can see that he is ragequitting upon closer inspection, But the whole deal with the guy under his foot and the fact that the table is pretty easy to miss (I thought it was pillar or something.) just made it look like a guy doing a weird pose while standing on someone to me at first. Not to mention his facial expression doesn't really convey that much rage. But that´s just my opinion.

I might just be a terribly dumb guy, But i think this image is pretty unclear, So a caption could probably help, Or a new image...

In any case, A improvement is needed in my opinion (...or my opinion needs a improvement), Although im not sure how...

I guess we could use this caption:

(╯‵Д′)╯彡┻━┻

Ilstefan Since: Jan, 2001

the current caption does nothing to clear up what it is, and attempting to add a humorous caption just ruins the poetry of the visual humor. (And anyway, I find it to be perfectly clear what's happening.) I'm removing the caption for now, but leaving the discussion flag.

Your opinion the caption runs anything. I like it. Restored. Also, linked the image to Go, which is what we usually do with images. The Flipping the Table link is in the caption now.
