Why is this a "Always Male" trope?

1) I still think it was retarded to change the name

2) why delete the Real Life examples??

Aside from The No real Life examples, not to hurt feelings maybe?

Since 2012, we aren't cataloguing Real Life examples of sex tropes anymore. The Real Life section was removed earlier here, though.

I always liked the old caption for Nipple and Dimed (back when it was still a picture of blue-footed boobies), so I figured I'd give it a new home with some alterations. :D

Ridiculous amounts of misuse of the trope, which could be directly attributed to the old name.

Specifics can be found here.

I see why. Now, the various penis tropes are more specific. "Biggus Dickus" was catching both the idea that a big penis meant better sex AND the trope Gag Penis, which I'm sure caused confusion. Well, this is one of the few recent changes I completely understand and support, but, dang it, I'm just going to miss that name. Ah well.

Alright, I caught what was going on with the (link deleted) examples removed by Twentington. The original examples with links are as follows.

  • Taken to its extreme/parodied by the girls(!) of [[http://futanaria.com/main.htm Futanaria.com]] (Very NSFW!)
  • [[http://kudaka.tumblr.com/archive A few semi-non-pornish examples of big guys.]] (Very NSFW) And they're flaccid.

I'd agree they're not exactly something we want links to. But now we know the names of the sites, so I don't see a problem as long as no links. Anyone mind if I add non-linked versions back?

Permanent Red Link Club explains it pretty well. It is not the sort of thing we're interested in having on the wiki.

Because Totemic Hero would apparently prefer to act like a Wikipedia Deletionist and delete tons of examples added by other people which could have legitimately fit in another trope—something he has admitted in his edit reasons, yet for some reason can't be motivated to move or rename examples where he finds them—I took the liberty of re-adding what he deleted to Gag Penis.

A number of those examples are probably duplicates, but I'll be going back through later and combining duplicate examples. For now I just wanted to keep Totemic Hero from wiping out all those edits with his "solution" to the problem this trope has had.

I'd love to have added some of those examples to Gag Penis, but the problem is twofold.

  • First, most of those examples simply read "Character X has a huge penis", which doesn't tell me if it's being played for comedy or not (which is key for being an example of Gag Penis).
  • Secondly, I'm not very familiar with most of the works in question, so I can't confirm it.

Thus the deletion. I'm not moving trope examples over from Trope A to Trope B when I have no way of knowing if it's an actual example of Trope B.

If you're more familiar with some of those works and know that it's a Gag Penis example, go ahead and re-add them. Just try to write the example a little more clearly so we don't have to do this same song-and-dance a few months down the line.

Considering that I had to go over the entries you deleted to get rid of any duplicates I added to Gag Penis, I can safely call BS on your first reason for deleting them all because most of them went into detail about what was going on, and in many cases it was obvious that it was Played for Laughs or at least a comedic element.

I don't even have to say that, actually. I can just point at the entire Stand-Up Comedy section you deleted. That doesn't tell you it's being played for comedy? Really?

On your second excuse, I give people the benefit of the doubt if I don't know the source material. If it's wrong, another troper who does the source material will correct it (ideally without just replying to it). Deleting something because you're not familiar with the works in question is a very Wikipedia Deletionist thing to do.

Ok, I think we were in two different ballparks there. You were just talking about the on-page examples I cut, where I was thinking of all the examples I've been cutting on multiple pages. Whoops.

I agree, simply cutting the Stand-Up Comedy probably was not the best move on my end. I was (and still am, given the huge amount of misuse this trope has seen) more concerned about cutting bad examples first though, before seeing if they go somewhere else. It's not like I couldn't go back and re-sort them later from the histories, but you've taken care of that.

Isn't "a character has a big penis, because writers (incorrectly) assume that Bigger Is Better also applies to penis size in relation to sex" the rationale behind practically every instance of huge penis size in fiction that doesn't count as Gag Penis or isn't explicitly justified by a medical condition that causes abnormally large penis size?

Ah. I didn't know you actually replied. The thread must've been locked soon afterwards, which would automatically take it off the thread watchlist.

That said, can you give an example? Because I have trouble imagining such a case.

Not off the top of my head, sorry.

Basically, just having a giant penis looks like it would fall under People Sit On Chairs. It doesn't necessarily help tell the story on it's own...it needs something else, some other factor about how it affects the plot. I don't think we can just assume that the other factor is there by default.

It doesn't have to be explicit (girl getting turned on by seeing a guy's sizable, um, equipment would probably qualify), but it has alluded to within the work somewhere. I don't want to have this trope's usage dependent on Word of God.

Okay, that's a fairly valid concern.

How about this: What other reasons, besides Played for Laughs (aka Gag Penis) or Played for Drama (medical condition-induced), that an author/character designer/writer would give a male/hermaprhodite character a huge penis? Maybe they deserve to be YKTTW'd into independent tropes, provided we expand on the initial reasons.

Besides that, I'd like to amend my previously mentioned proposed slight redefinition:

Excluding Gag Penis or justifications by medical conditions, every instance of huge penis size in fiction is based on the rationale of "bigger penis equals better sex", either because the writers/character designers actually believe in it, are exploiting widespread belief in it (typical of the porn/hentai industry), or both.

What do you think?

Still has the same problem, as far as I can tell: It allows for examples that don't have any specific sexual connotations, and we're back to needing Word of God to confirm.
