Now it's time for a giant edit to this page.

I removed all quotation marks around "those who slither in the dark" because that is a description, not a name.

I reordered and reworded some examples to not imply that Crimson Flower is a deault route.

I moved tropes and events that only happen in Heroes to their own sections.

I removed all references to the nonexistent Church route.

Tropes I removed:

General

  • Kill Em All: If you don't recruit any of them on Crimson Flower, then it is entirely possible to wipe out the Blue Lion house on that route, although Ashe and Annette's deaths aren't required like the others are. On Verdant Wind, meanwhile, the player can come close to this, and Dedue can be the only confirmed survivor of the house by the end (Annette doesn't appear, leaving her unaccounted for).

This trope is about the majority of characters dying as part of the narrative, not about killing the majority of opponents in a video game.

Dedue

He's Duscuran. There's nothing ambiguous about this, and the implication is that Duscurans tend to be darker than Faerghusans. Ambiguously Brown isn't about characters with less-than-pale skin, it's about those who are nonspecifically foreign.

  • Enemy Mine: On the Alliance and Church routes, he cooperates with Byleth's forces to kill Edelgard and avenge Dimitri's death.

Dedue isn't an enemy.

Sylvain

Felix's hair is blue.

  • Buxom Is Better: Early on, he mentions scoping out the ladies of the monastery, naming Hilda, Dorothea, Mercedes, Manuela, and even Lady Rhea. And throughout the game with female Byleth, he often flirts with her, talks about going sightseeing or out to eat dinner with her and often has dialogue written specifically for female Byleth in general. All six of them are quite well endowed.

This trope is about the in-universe opinion that big boobs are attractive, not merely about attractive characters having titanic tits. Plus, Sylvain is also interested in Mercedes and can marry Ingrid, both of whom are A-cups.

  • Dishing Out Dirt: The New Game Plus item that bestows the Crest of Gautier on its holder is called the Fissure Dragon Sign. Miklan's beast form is also shown to not have wings and looks rather earthy in texture. Additionally, he's the only character without a Crest of Cichol (Earth) to learn Swift Strikes.

This trope is specifically about having power over Earth, which Sylvain does not.

  • The Friends Who Never Hang: Despite his many years of friendship with Ingrid, Felix, and Dimitri, he doesn't seem to be as close to the third, since they're the only pair among the four who cannot get an A-support. Sylvain also seems somewhat less bothered by Dimitri's death in the Silver Snow and Verdant Wind routes, since his monastery conversation after the battle has him talking about the upcoming attack on Fort Merceus.

They have a support chain. This isn't an example.

  • Guyliner: Seems to be wearing black eyeliner in his school phase portrait, if his longer eyelashes are anything to go by.

This just looks like an art style thing.

  • Not So Similar: While he shares his lance/axe/riding strengths, Strength and Speed growths, and access to Swift Strikes with Ferdinand, the two are more distinct. Sylvain has a somewhat passable Magic growth, a budding talent in Reason, a decent spell list, and access to the Lightning Axe combat art, allowing him to become a Magic Knight class, while Ferdinand is a Magically Inept Fighter and has a fairly average spell list. Sylvain also has less overall flexibility on the physical end, having a weakness in bows and a neutrality in swords, while Ferdinand is neutral and proficient, respectively. Finally, Sylvain's personal has him set up to be more of a wall, while Ferdinand's makes him more of an evasion tank.

Sylvain and Ferdinand are never really presented as similar.

  • Real Men Wear Pink: He enjoys fine art and theatre, one of his favorite gifts is the Dapper Handkerchief, and he's the only male character (besides Balthus) to learn the Seraphim spell.

These aren't really feminine.

Ingrid

Felix's hair is blue.

  • Has a Type: Men who are laid back and/or tricksters, considering she can marry Raphael, Sylvain, Yuri and Claude.

She can also marry Dimitri, Felix, Ashe, Dedue, Ignatz, and Seteth.

  • (Hypocrite):

While Ingrid seeks to embody chivalry and honor, she can be quite judgmental when scolding others for their bad habits, sometimes bordering on hypocrisy. After the time skip, she seems to have improved on this and become less judgmental.

It's not hypocritical to criticise others for failing to live up to one's own standarads.

  • During her C-support with Raphael, she lectures him for his table manners and not eating in the dining hall. If Byleth meets her at the Goddess Tower, she reveals that she had stuffed her face with food. In her C-support with Yuri, he catches her eating lots of meat.

One, she's more upset about Raphael's manners than his appetite. She also clearly doesn't believe this is acceptable behaviour on her own behalf, and is mortified that she engages in it.

  • Inconsistent Dub: Is her personal Combat Art called "Fire Quake" or "Burning Quake?"

It's Burning Quake.

  • Kissing Cousins: Potentially if she's poached to the Golden Deer; she and Claude are very distant cousins. According to a document in the Abyss Library, an ancestress of House Riegan married a member of House Daphnel, and the older brother of said Daphnel family member turned out to be the man who would eventually create House Galatea.

They're too distant to count.

  • Token Good Teammate: On the Crimson Flower route, if not recruited, she shares this status with Felix, as she does not become a Fallen Hero in desperation.

Calling the others fallen heroes is a stretch since they're trying to resist a war of conquest.

Felix

  • Ambiguous Disorder: His self-admitted dislike of making eye contact, hyper-fixation on a single subject (swordfighting/combat), lack of of social tact, difficulty with expressing emotion, Picky Eater tendencies, and extreme bluntness are all signs of high-functioning autism/Asperger's Syndrome. However, given how Felix's childhood friends mention he Used to Be a Sweet Kid, it's equally probable that these traits are due to an untreated trauma disorder.

Felix is just a socially awkward jerk.

  • The Baby of the Bunch: Downplayed as he's older than Annette and Ashe, but Felix is the youngest of the childhood friends. Sylvain remarks that he was almost like a baby brother when they were younger.

Being the youngest never really comes up.

  • Blonde, Brunette, Redhead: The Brunette to Ingrid's Blonde and Sylvain's Redhead. It's a bit downplayed in his case however, as he's merely dark-haired rather than actually brown-haired.

Again, his hair is blue.

  • Character Tics: Tends to put a hand on his hip when talking to people. He also has a tendency to avoid eye contact.

That's just his default pose. Sylvain, Claude, Raphael, Leonie, Edelgard, Petra, Ferdinand, Caspar, Alois, Catherine, Shamir, Balthus, Constance (in the dark), and Jeralt do the same thing.

  • Generation Xerox:
    • Dimitri comments in their supports that he's becoming more and more like his brother Glenn everyday, the only major difference is that Glenn believed in knighthood and chivalry while Felix disdains it.
    • Felix's father happens to also have been friends with Dimitri and Sylvain's fathers.

Generation Xerox needs more similarities than that.

  • Token Good Teammate: On the Crimson Flower route, if not recruited, he shares this status with Ingrid, as he does not become a Fallen Hero in desperation.

The others aren't really fallen heroes either.

Mercedes

  • Of Corsets Sexy: Post-timeskip, she wears one as part of her outfit, and it does a lot to show just how busty she is.

I think that's just the way she's modelled.

No, they just act like they're good friends.

Annette

  • Morality Pet: She's Felix's to a degree; she's one of the few students he isn't openly rude and hostile to, especially within the Blue Lions. In their paired endings on non-Azure Moon routes, it's outright stated that she's his major reason to smile.

Felix acts the same if Annette isn't there.

  • "Romantic" Two-Girl Friendship: Annette and Mercedes are incredibly close, love shopping together, and give one another Affectionate Nicknames. After they make up from their fight in their A-support, Annette ends up declaring that Mercedes is the person she loves most in the world.

Again, they're just good friends; they don't come across as romantic at all.

  • The Slow Path: Downplayed. After her father left the family, Annette figured that he had gone away to Garreg Mach Monastery out of shame. However, she lacked the financial means to attend the Officer's Academy and was too young at that point. Instead she attended the School of Sorcery in Fhirdiad and worked herself to the bone to get a recommendation to the Officers Academy. Between the year of her father's disappearance and the graduation from her studies at the school note , it took her nearly three years to see him again.

The Slow Path is a Time Travel trope.

  • Suspiciously Similar Substitute: Spell mastery and talent placement aside, Annette draws a lot of similarity with Tailtiu, being a perky mage girl with short attention span (which, in the case of Annette, translates into her clumsiness) and having rather similar father issues, with Gilbert and Reptor being more distant to them and there is a good chance that they could end up in blows. Thankfully for Annette, Gilbert is still a decent dad even if he's a bit inept at showing it at first and just laments at how fate turned out for them (or in other cases, they could just reconcile or fight and die together on the same side) unlike Reptor who disowned and doomed Tailtiu to a life of Honor-Related Abuse for betraying him.

Once again, SSS only applies within a continuity.

Ashe

  • Ascended Extra: Downplayed, but Ashe is the non-Dimitri Blue Lion representative on Cindered Shadows.

Ashe is as prominent in Cindered Shadows as he is in the main story.

  • The Baby of the Bunch: Ashe is the youngest member of the Blue Lions, although he's not treated as a child due to his mature personality.

This means he doesn't actually match the trope. And him being the youngest never comes up.

  • Call-Back: Or Call-Forward, depending on which route you played first. post-Timeskip on the Azure Moon route, Ashe talks of the possibility of how he might have faced Byleth at Ailell as an enemy if they didn't choose the Blue Lions...which is exactly what happens on the Silver Snow and Verdant Wind routes.

It's a Callsideways, actually, which isn't a trope.

  • Moveset Clone: Subverted. Ashe shares his bow proficiency and Strength and Speed growths (35% and 50%, respectively) with Bernadetta and Ignatz, but leans towards being Boring, but Practical due to his axe boon allowing him to easily access Brigand.

This is a fighting game trope.

Seriously, troper?

I would argue that, yes, most of the Blue Lions do become Fallen Heroes on Crimson Flower if not recruited. Mercedes and Sylvain become complicit in Dedue’s plan to have people turn themselves into demonic beasts, which is established as an evil thing in-story and part of why Edelgard is such a threat on the other routes. And in the final battle, Ashe and Annette don’t seem too concerned with Fhirdiad in flames, still trying to take out most of the Black Eagle Strike Force.

While she is older than most, Wouldn’t Mercedes also be considered the cutie?

Are we really adding Heterosexual Life Partners for Sylvain and Felix despite the fact the Japanese version is explicit? This isn't added for Petra and Dorothea who is explicit or is it because its two males to downplay their paired ending in BL route?

I think they both have Ambiguously Bi, which would serve I think, because even as explicit as the Japanese version is to some people, its not concrete. Without definitive proof or word from God, it may just be poetic speech.

Though if you could only have one of the two tropes, I would suggest removing HLP. Though given that this site is largely based on opinion anyway, I see no reason why they can't have both, depending on interpretation of the player.

Ingrid mostly wears dark and light green as her Color Coded Character appearance, and it says in her personal trope section that she’s green in contrast to Sylvain’s red. Would it be more appropriate to list it as green in the “Tropes for all” section?

No. Most of her class outfits are dark blue. She only really wears green in her unique outfit post-timeskip.

It is I, the narrator, categorising addict and writer of books you haven't read.

My apologies. I misread the description for the trope.
