Find a Trope:
openCousin Quiproquo
Related to Mistaken for Cheating. It's when a character suspect his/her significant other to dating/being romantic involved with something, he/she finally finds out the "hypothenuse"/"love rival" turns to be his/her Love Interest's cousin. At first, it's pretty dramatic but at the end it's Played for Laughs. This trope generally induces Clingy Jealous Girl, Crazy Jealous Guy and/or Green-Eyed Monster.
Edited by rforceopena trope i love, but unsure if it exists. Videogame
a city style, based on modern times, usually 2000 to 2010, treated as ancient buried ruins. like the city in Entrien Oddesy: mellenium girl, or The Land of Morytha in Xenoblade 2. skyscrapers and high-rises and suburban areas, inside of a cave, overgrown with vines n such.
openDoesn't Point Out It's Been Done
Is there a trope for when somebody describes something that would normally fit under It's Been Done, except that the person they're telling it to doesn't point out that it's already been done, either because they're too polite to, can't be bothered to humor the other person, or actually doesn't realize themself that it's already been done? Or it would just be a subversion of It's Been Done?
openLeader strikes the last blow
Is there a trope for when a team performs a team combination attack, the team leader is always the one who performs the final strike? This is really common in sentai shows, and also shows up in places like Marvel vs. Capcom with Captain Commando's Captain Strike hypercombo.
openTelepathy requires unconsciousness
Basically, in order for someone with telepathy to be able to communicate with someone else, that someone else has to be in a trance state or asleep. I didn't see this in Psychic Powers unless I overlooked it. Also, I know of one work that hints at this, but are there others that have it?
openSupernatural organization
Is there a trope for SCP Foundation [[Comic Book/Hellboy BPRD]]-like paranormal organizations?
Edited by NukeliopenWalk through the wall
A wall in a video game that isn't actually one and the player character can easily go through it. Tends to occur without any hints.
openThe game screws around with your hardware
A video game that manipulates or plays with the very hardware you play it on.
openBiological Floatation Device
An organism has a part of their anatomy used for floatation, either in water or air. For example Azumarill has oil in its tail to ensure it never sinks and Buizel "wears" floaties
openMotivation Backfire
A company decides that the least productive employee of the month will be fired. Predictably, the employees find it easier to spend their time making each other look bad instead of being more productive, and production drops to a fraction of what it was before they started the new policy.
openSilver Crossbow
Amongst other psuedo-Holy Hand Grenade, for a Hunter of Monsters an Automatic Crossbow is a favoured weapon.
Edited by KingOfStickersopenGods of Egypt conversation
I'm looking for a trope regarding this conversation from Gods of Egypt:
- Ra: I noticed the tower. Impressive.
- Set: I built it for you.
- Ra: If it were any taller, it would be in my way.note Ra's clearly joking. Urshu states that Set's obelisk is exactly 2,220 cubits tall, whereas Ra's barge appears to be in low orbit, which would put its altitude at roughly two million cubits.
openScrappy Damage Type Videogame
Is there a trope for when, in a game with Damage Typing, a certain damage type is almost useless due to so few enemies being vulnerable to it? Example: in Asheron's Call cold damage started out this way, as there were only a few types of creature it was good against, namely, fire elementals, magma golems, and the rather uncommon hollow minions. They later fixed this by adding more cold-vulnerable monsters.
openAlien creature has an odd number of body parts
Is there a trope for when a creature has an odd number of body parts (5 legs, for instance) to make it seem really weird (real-life animals almost always have an even number of body parts, unless they only have one of said body part, due to cells dividing in two)?
opendead canary in mouth
In The Mafia, it's common for mobsters to clip someone they found out was The Informant, and stuff dead canaries or mice in their mouth as a sign that they "sung" or "squeaked" to the police. Is there such a trope?
openNo Title
This example on NoodleIncident.Calvin And Hobbes. Is it Noodle Incident, or is there another trope? Kind of like Take Our Word for It, but in-universe.
- Rosalyn has been known to make her nights baby-sitting Calvin into in-universe Noodle Incidents. We see what happens, but when Calvin's parents come home and ask how Calvin's been behaving, she'll just give them a look and leave it to their imagination — and then ask for more money than before.
openEnduring Soviet Union
Alternate History where the Soviet Union never fell, or at least lasts a lot longer than it did OTL
When the threat the heroes face is an Apocalypse How threat specifically wreaking a chain of simultaneous or interconnected natural disasters (news reports of a Giant Wall of Watery Doom, freak thunderstorms, earthquakes, wildfires, snow in Hawaii, with a view from space likely to show the Earth dotted with a dozen hurricanes) — but it's NOT necessarily Gaia's Vengeance (although they can overlap) as alternative causes can be Climate Change, Weather-Control Machine, Weather Manipulation taken Up To Eleven, etc. and the end result can potentially be an extinction event. Is there already a clear trope for this?
