That's not very good behaviour for someone that's been editing for over 5 years. It's also not a good sign that they're aware of Edit Reasons but ignored yours. Did you send a notifier or other messages?
Yes, I did send a ZCE notifier when I commented out the entry, making their defiance even more blatant.
"They played us like a DAMN FIDDLE!" — Kazuhira Miller, Metal Gear Solid V The Phantom PainGoing by their edit reason, it seems like they're under the impression that ZCE means there's no trope examples in the folder, as opposed to the example that is there not having enough context. They may need to have it explained what a ZCE actually is.
EDIT: But also, the "to appease the overlords" edit reason seems needlessly antagonistic. The folder was legitimately problematic. They should fix it because it needed to be fixed, and because they want the page to be a good page. The fact that they're viewing it as a chore to do is not good.
Edited by Mimic1990Yeah, this looks like bad behavior pure and simple. Unfortunately, older tropers can be guilty of this, and while they sometimes get away with stuff, they shouldn’t — especially when it’s seemingly this egregious.
Hopefully, the powers that be will take notice.
Despite being a troper for 5 years or so, Fireboltprime only sporadically edits, and when they do on Destiny and Destiny 2, I'm always forced to elaborate on their stubs, and it's getting tiring; if I'm not the one doing the elaboration, then it falls on other tropers, and it's gonna be just as annoying for them. For the past two years, Fireboltprime has never, ever responded to any of my notifiers concerning ZCE and grammar mistakes.
"They played us like a DAMN FIDDLE!" — Kazuhira Miller, Metal Gear Solid V The Phantom PainCould this possibly be a sock of Darth Megatron/Darthrai. They were heavily known for having Zero Context Examples, and if I remember right, they were permanently banned. They also made stubs if I remember right.
^ Looking at their edit history, that's doubtful. They edit different pages, and Fireboltprime's edit history starts before Darthrai got banned.
I've sent a rudeness notifier, and Fireboltprime has been around for longer than Darthrai.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanTo mimic's point, ZCE sounds more along the lines of "This folder has zero examples." Instead of "This folder has few examples." That's where my confusion comes in.
I will go ahead an apologize in for the "Overlords" comment. I let my bad day seep into my work here and that's quite unprofessional of me. I also apologize if it appears I ignore any individual. I'm quite scatterbrained and I don't check in daily so I normally forget to respond in term and by the time I remember, it's too late and it feels awkward on my end.
I'm here to work out any complaints, concerns, other things you have of me. I'm not up on all the changes but with guidance I can adjust myself to the new rules.
It happens sometimes. We all have bad days and make bad mistakes. The important thing is what you do in the future.
And to explain, a Zero-Context Example is an example that doesn't adequately explain why it's an example. So, for the example...
- Red Oni, Blue Oni: The Blue to Eramis' Red.
See, this is Zero-Context because, to me as a person who has never played Destiny, it means nothing to me. I have no idea who Athrys or Eramis are, or how the Red Oni, Blue Oni dynamic works with them. I can make guesses based on what I know of the trope, and say that Athrys is probably more subdued and logical while Eramis is more hotheaded. Is that accurate? Maybe. I don't know.
A good example with context would explain which specific behaviors the two engage in that put them into those roles. It doesn't have to be very long. In fact, that's another mistake that people tend to make - assuming that writing a lot means there's context, but truthfully it's entirely possible to write page after page without ever actually getting to what makes your example an example of the trope.
Does that make sense?
^ Good explanation. Additionally, what works for me is this: I cover the trope name up and pretend it's not there, then write the example. Everything has to be in the example to make sense that way.
I think it's also worth mentioning that he made this edit in YMMV.Hearthstone Heroes Of Warcraft, which I've sent him a rudeness notifier for (changes he made bolded):
- They Changed It, Now It Sucks!: The promotional art for Death Knight Jaina is much more well-received that her Frost Lich Jaina art, which leading fans to bemoan why the Hearthstone team doesn't use it for the card.
- The Battle Pass System. A system so reviled due to Blizzard's lying the fanbase is in active revolt, demanding Blizzard either adjust the pass to be more generous or scrap it and revert back to the old system completely.
On top of the indentation he made being incorrect, his added example seems like complaining.
Edited by KappaclysticaI did apologize for tone on that through our D Ms. The Battle Pass of Hearthstone is still a subject that's difficult to make sound neutral (Yes, Blizzard lied about the pass rewarding players the same amount as the previous system. Yes, the fanbase was in active revolt; i.e. r/Hearthstone being flooded with Anti-Blizzard posts, the Duels tournament was flooded with Anti-Blizzard spam. Yes, fans demanded for changes or a reversion to the previous rewards system).
To answer Mimic's post, that makes sense. In my head, with it being too few tropes currently, it would sound redundant to re-explain Athrys character when you had to look up a few lines to see it. It's a dumb reason considering there's nothing describing Eramis there.
^ Remember, each entry in trope lists needs to stand on its own. Even if the page has already established the "blue" character as The Stoic, and the "Red" character as Hot-Blooded elsewhere, and both characters' description already mentions them as, say, Sibling Yin-Yang or Heterosexual Life-Partners, the Red Oni, Blue Oni entry still needs to describe the relationship between the characters and how they demonstrate the red/blue dynamics.
Yeah, you need to keep two things in mind when adding examples:
- Crosswicking. Will the example still make sense in isolation on the trope page?
- What if the other examples have to get cut/commented out/moved?
I saw this coming from a mile away. Fireboltprime uncommented a folder I originally commented out because its sole trope was a ZCE, then added more tropes "to appease the overlord". Not exactly a bad move, but they did not elaborate on Red Oni, Blue Oni, which is grounds for edit war and non-compliance with Zero-Context Example. Also, they re-added Badass Gay, which I deleted twice because two other tropers added it prior to Fireboltprime. Is it just me, or do most of these tropers come out of the woods, ignorant that Badass Gay has been cut since a while ago? Not to mention that I explicitly stated in my edit reasons that Badass Gay is no longer a trope.
