Adaptational Angst Upgrade is the closest thing I can think about.

^ Not really, I don't see an increase in angst. It's closer to an "Adaptional Cerebus Syndrome"—is Adaptation Inspiration, then, the correct trope?
Scientia et Libertas | Per Aspera ad Astra Nova
Simple description:
Specific case I'm asking:
By the standards of a Schoolgirl Series manga, Asteroid in Love is quite a bit more (melo)dramatic than the norm of the genre, although it is still written within the framework of a Gag Series and still can be read as such (this is not how I read it, though).
The Animated Adaptation, however, removed quite a lot of these gags, and thus by comparison it became more melodramatic, to the point of being borderline dramedy. The adaptation's promotional material didn't even treat it as a comedy. There is no change to the work's position on the Sliding Scale of Idealism Versus Cynicism.
This is currently troped on the work page under Adaptation Inspiration, although I'm not sure if it's the correct trope, and if it's correct, the writeup is too complain-y.
