Have a question about how the TVTropes wiki works? No one knows this community better than the people in it, so ask away! Ask the Tropers is the page you come to when you have a question burning in your brain and the support pages didn't help.
It's not for everything, though. For a list of all the resources for your questions, click here. You can also go to this Directory thread
for ongoing cleanup projects.
Looks like it never existed. If it had been cut, there would be a cut reason.
It's editable, so you can make a page for it if you want.
Edited by supergod For we shall slay evil with logic...Thanks! I'm gonna make a page for it, but I'm still pretty new to editing. It may need some love.
(finger guns) sup?The edit page button just sends me to the Trope Launcher page. What could I do to fix that?
(finger guns) sup?You need to put it in the proper namespace. That red link in your OP is in Main, which is for tropes only. You probably want WebOriginal.Phantom Strider.
Edited by homogenizedActually, you'll have to use WebVideo.Phantom Strider, since we don't use the Web Original namespace any longer.
To create the page, you'll need a basic description and at least three tropes, and you'll need to find an index to list it in. See How to Create a Work's Page for details.
Edit: Looks like the page was cut before after all. But it was only because it had no tropes. As long as you find at least three, you're good.
Edited by supergod For we shall slay evil with logic...Thanks!
(finger guns) sup?Page is up and has three tropes attached. I also put the Needs Wiki Magic Love thing on it too. Thanks again for the help!
(finger guns) sup?Trope Finder can help with further tropes. :)
Coming back to where you started is not the same as never leaving. -Terry PratchettQuestion: do we trope Top 10 lists?
Because that's what that channel does, so other than the guy's reactions to some stuff (and him being a real person, not a persona from what I can tell) there's no original content.
Edited by DerkhanFairly sure we don't, since that's a list of works, and those works should have tropes on their pages, or Creators' pages if the work pages don't exist.
Coming back to where you started is not the same as never leaving. -Terry PratchettAs long as it's troping the show itself and not the works being reviewed, it could probably be done, even if the only original content is stuff like jokes or visuals. I haven't watched the show myself, but it may be similar to other shows where people don't put on a persona like review shows, reaction video shows, let's plays or podcasts.
The main issue is that it might be really difficult to find actual tropes to use, which is a problem another troper had when they wanted to make a page for Whatculture not too long ago.
Edited by supergod For we shall slay evil with logic...Indeed, unless the Youtuber in question produces original creative content, there's nothing worth troping.
Edited by Fighteer "It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"^^ That's the problem, though, Tep 10 lists rarely produce anything original. As the WebVideo.Phantom Strider is now, aside from wrong alphabetization which I'm going to correct, and Example Indentation issues which I've already corrected, three of the four listed tropes are about the guy hosting and thus about a real person (can't see any kind of persona after skimming some videos). It's also not indexed.
Since OP was interested in the page's existence, I'm going to call them here via PM and see if they're willing to find enough tropes that are neither about the channel's non-original content nor the host himself, otherwise there's only one valid trope to the page.
Edited by DerkhanI think writing about a real persona is fine as long as it's focused on what they do or say on the show and not on private or personal stuff. That Adorkable entry shouldn't be there, for example.
I asked the same thing about troping people on game shows, talk shows and reality competitions (like American Idol or MasterChef) before, and the answer I got was that what's presented on screen counts as In-Universe for the purposes of the website.
Real-life persona or not, I think the main thing to look at is whether the content is creative or just like a Buzzfeed list. I haven't watched the videos myself, but there's nothing original there like you say, then it probably shouldn't have a page.
Edited by supergod For we shall slay evil with logic...The on-screen persona of the creator in question needs to clearly be a part of the presentation of their work. Distinguishing what is the real person from what is the act that they put forward can be especially difficult for RL works like game shows, documentaries, vlogs, and the like. When in doubt, defer to the Rule Of Cautious Editing Judgment and don't list it.
Adorkable is a perennial problem child in this regard since, when applied to real people, it generally means, "Someone finds them endearing," which is pure dross and adds nothing of value to the wiki.

I noticed that Phantom Strider had a red link. Why was it cut? I'm not intending to bring it back, just curious.
