If I understand correctly, you're asking about a trope where Backstory-related deaths are caused by car accidents?

We have Bus Crash for when people are sent out of the show and die 'off camera', but it also is playing off the 'killed quickly, without warning, in such a way that doesn't invite a murder investigation' thing you mentioned
I was playing TWEWY and I noticed that, in that game, all deaths are caused by car accidents.
"In A Car Accident" is an easy way to make a character dead, as it's unexpected, but the offender wasn't really a murderer.
I also remember it from the movie Signs, and that new one, Water for Elephants.
