Find a Trope:
openPulling out IV lines Film
So you have a character that wakes up in a vaguely medical setting, and one of the first things they do after taking stock of things is find and pull out an IV or similar medical catheter (without taking any measures to stem any bleeding, usually). Do we have something for this or is it too specific?
openGirls are terrifying Film
A guy who has a a healthy dose of fear and respect for girls. He has no problem with fighting or talking to them. But past experiences have made him very wary.
openOne Ugly Son of a Bitch Film
When face to face with an intimidating monster creature, the hero comments how ugly they are.
openNo Title Film
The hero has been wounded, potentially mortally, but is able to receive medical aid which bandages, or otherwise seals the wound. They're told, however, that under no circumstances should they physically exert themselves or they risk re-opening the wound, putting themselves in danger again. Invariably, the hero is told this even though literally everybody knows that they're about to go and fight the big-bad.
openCan’t remember the name of the show Film
It’s very similar to the power rangers, the characters in the show get powers from these rectangular box’s the carry around and they use them to transform in to I think they were like dragons,
openSubmerged shot Film
A standard shot of a person floating limp, submerged in water. Represents surrender, meditation, release, etc.
openFEMALE DUO TROPE IN POP CULTURE Film
i need girl duos where one has a more goth/emo style & the other is bubblegum bright & cute
Edited by cheangivy2000resolved Two Children-related tropes Film
1 - When a movie that features rauchy humor or extreme gore has a child actor, scenes are often edited so that the kid isn't present during the recording of the dirty/violent scenes, because the crew is worried about the kid's psychological balance. Some movies make a point of showing the editing so viewers can relax knowing the innocent little actor wasn't subjected to graphic images. (for example, that scene from Clerks where Randall is listing off a bunch of porn movies he needs to buy, and a lady with a baby is hearing it with a shocked expression). What trope would that be?
2 - Some works (or some episodes of a certain work) feature kids in a realistic setting that celebrates the bittersweet innocence of childhood, as opposed to setting the kids up as wiser than their elders, sarcastic, competent, mature, or involved in speculativeFiction tropes. I'm thinking in particular of the "kids being kids" episodes of South Parklike "Return of the Fellowship of the Ring to the Two Towers". Is there a trope for that?
resolved everyone comes back for the ending Film
A comedy where the main character meets lots of people throughout the movie (often during a road trip), and in the last scene everyone shows up, usually for a party or something. Or, the character is spends the movie helping people out expecting nothing in return, then in the end when all hopes are lost, the characters show up to help him back.
openCollege Competition Film
Movie about a college frat/club/group of friends who enter a competition against the popular/cool kid group. Despite being extreme underdogs, the protagonists win. Examples: Monsters University, Pitch Perfect, An Extremely Goofy Movie
openArchive Only Documentary Film
A documentary that only uses archival video, photos and audio to tell it’s narrative, maybe adding some text here and there to explain context and music for atmosphere.
I saw recently saw National Geographic documentary on the 1992 LA riots that used this style.
Edited by DS9guyopenPurposely Missed Targets Film
Is there a trope for a character to miss a target on purpose even if they act like it was an accident?
openIn-Universe Creator Depression Film
Is there a trope for stories about an artist (writer, musician, whatever) who can only create good stuff when he's depressed, angry, stressed out, unhappy? That is to say, he has Writer's Block if his life's good. Or, alternatively, he still creates new stuff, but fans prefer the earlier work.
openSecrets in politics Film
The idea is that in the past some crime was executed and during politic games. Some of the secrets about that accident become public. Main characters are trying to solve it and get to know more details about the secret.
Edited by annaOnisopenLegal Anthropology Film
I'm looking for a series related to A series dealing with forensic anthropology, The best professionals examine investigations, reconstruct identities and causes of death and present some of the great achievements in today's criminology. The reconstructions are very graphic and close to reality, and are suitable only for those with a strong stomach, but the content is fascinating, and the fact that these are real cases and a decipherment made in reality makes me regret that I did not go to study forensic anthropology
openpaper about a monster with the important bit gone Film
people find exposition about the monster, conveniently missing the most important bit (its behavior/etc)
openWhen in need, ask for the impossible Film
"We need to activate our super weapon. How much time will it take?"
"At least ten minutes."
"Do it in five."
"Roger!"
What trope would this kind of dialogue fit in?
Edited by LyendithopenPeople in-universe can hear the background music gag Film
What trope would this be? I know several Mel Brooks movies used this (typically it would be revealed shortly after that a band nearby was playing the music.)
I was just watching this You Tube video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_W_szJ6M-kM
It's a supercut of a bunch of films in which somebody over a phone or radio tells somebody else to "get out of there!" or remarks that "we gotta get 'em out of there!"
Is there a trope that covers this? The closest I found was https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/LetsGetOutOfHere but that's more for when a group is together. This one is more for when a character doesn't know that they're in trouble until someone else calls them and tells them to abort.
