Unfortunately, it's late and I don't have much time. So not much to say now.

However, I will post this most likely old thing.

Chen and Orin aren't really similar at all personality-wise, even if they're similar types of Youkai and should theoretically have similar powers.

Which is a good thing. When you have two characters who are superficially similar like that, it makes it a lot more interesting if you can compare them and use that comparison to strengthen each of their characterizations.

The way I see Chen and the cat village thing is she wants to recreate what she has with Ran but with her in Ran's position. But she doesn't understand her relationship with Ran. She thinks things like food or catnip are why she's loyal to Ran rather then love or respect or a shikigami contract. So she tries to buy the other cats' loyalty rather than earning it. "If I give you a dollar, will you be my friend" sort of thing.

Also, both Ran and Chen have a "normal" human friendship level and Ran comes to the village to do shopping and won't generally attack unless you disrupt her work. I wonder if the attacking P Mi SS mentions is more of the play-fighting type unless you splash Chen with water.

However, Chen is too unreliable for Ran to leave her work to.

According to PCB extra stage dialogue, Chen was supposed to be helping set up a banquet. And then the player character arrives.

A cat is added so here's a doujin titled Kitten Girl featuring 75% moeblob Chen and an overprotective Ran set right before Imperishable Night.

Chen also shows up in Usually Dead's Perfect Cherry Blossom based stories Resolute and Ghostly Gardener, Remixed Cherry Blossom, and Recovery of Beloved Matriarch. Usually Dead uses more of the feral cat characterization for Chen.

I know there's fanworks that feature feral Chen but I really can't think of any off the top of my head. Fans tend to gravitate towards the cute, kitten Chen. And I can't really blame them.

I like the image of a Chen who's a naughty little cat. She's just too adorable to stay angry with for long though.

I can imagine how the villagers have a sort of love-hate with her pranks and throwing danmaku at them whenever Ran sends her to do the shopping. They put up with it because, well, she's Chen, and no-one has gotten too badly hurt by her pranks.

She's definitely the sort who'd try to win over Cirno's little STRONGEST club with her might and her connections to Ran and Yukari.

If I remember correctly, the Tag Dream doujin had Ran and Chen as a team in the first round. Both of them became extremely powerful during their fight (it was against the team of Yuugi and Orin) by way of their respective masters channeling some of their powers into them from afar during the fight.

After Yukari decided to step down and let them fight by themselves, they lost, eventually (I mean, it's still freaking Yuugi), but an extremely cool thing was after the fight, where Chen, well, did this.

I actually think Ran would be one of the most physically powerful Touhou characters. Still below Yuugi, I guess, but... she's got the Boobs Of Steel, she's physically the largest character (well, after Unzan), constantly lugging around those giant tails of hers, and unlike Kanako, who also carries quite a load with her, Ran still seems quite agile and graceful thanks to her foxiness. I mean, her being a fox.

There are some portrayals that have Ran become Yukari's shikigami when she's already grown up. And some have Ran as a child when she becomes a shikigami so that a maternal Yukari can be shown.

What do you think? Which do you prefer?

As an aside, Shino is delightfully cruel in her comics.

Yukari's just not parent material - you can easily imagine her sleeping for a week straight and just Gapping a kid away when it tried to wake her up. But she's definitely up for being a grandparent, which would allow her to spoil/dote on/tease to her heart's content, but duck out of the way and let the child's mother (figure) deal with the hard stuff.

I'm thinkin' Ran joined up as an adult, if only because it'd be less work than raising a child, and because I doubt anyone could survive hundreds of years of Yukari "parenting." At least not without some scarring.

Hmm, I'd think that Yukari wouldn't make a child her shikigami. Hell, that one Prismriver doujin said that Yukari used to be weaker than Ran... That seems closer to the mark. She'd only stake a claim on someone who could really put up a fight.

Which, of course, is the exact reason why I love making them have kids with my OC's. Instant Hilartity, Just add bad parenting kids and OC's!

These guys are my pride and joy. I put some work into them, and their interactions with the touhou girls can be quite hilarious.

Who knows? Maybe the two groups could even grow to like each other~

Well, I'm glad you like at least one of them.

And, trust me, they've got much more interesting personalities than Relatioship Sues. Some of their interactions can be hilarious, but some stand out: Tanner/Ran, Elrich/Remilia, Tagento/Marisa, Goemon/Byakuren, Gio/Sakuya, Patuli/Patchy, and Jiko/Meiling are damn funny.

But, hey, I agree with you, I'm not here to argue.

If you dislike yuri you're seriously in the wrong fandom. Also a bad fandom for OCs; even the most innocent of them tend to get a lot of hate.

I think it's more popular to repurpose a minor character than it is to make someone up. I mean, there are a lot of characters already...

Well aware of that, and I work my hardest to make my OC's so that even the most anti-OC guy there is will like them.

I'm not kidding when I say that I've spent over six months making and perfecting these guys.

^^Yeah, give some use to Kikuri. Or Kisume. Or the character I always like to promote, Shingyoku!

....You see, this is my main problem with the touhou fandom.

Everyone is fine until you mention OC's, which turns them into annoying little fucks that huddle behind all their yuri, and BAAAAAWWWWWWWWWWWWW.

It's just sad.
