Yeah, the whole thing with Gihren and Hitler is a bit ambiguous as to whether Gihren has absolutely no idea what he's talking about or UC refers to historical periods by different names than we do. Normally you'd expect that to be pretty consistent, but this is the same series that gave us New Yark and the Great Canyon, so who the hell knows? And it is definitely clear that Gihren doesn't recognize Hitler's name immediately, so the only real question is how badly he's misremembering.
Really from Jupiter, but not an alien.Regardless I have finally finished the original Mobile Suit Gundam and needless to say I enjoyed it.
Get of a load of this, SEED lovers.
You know, I've always wanted to be in an anime, or at least one that didn't cast me as a Red Shirt to die horribly in some spectacular fashion, although somehow, I suspect that would be the case.
Seriously though, even if this doesn't become widespread any time soon, this could still open a whole can of worms, ranging everywhere from the technical aspects of it to the spiritual and ethical questions it's bound to raise. (Much like Seed itself did, incidentally; I guess we really are in an anime after-all.) Personally, as someone who has Asburger's syndrome, I'm not sure where I stand on this. If they wanted to, they just might be able to change the genes of people like myself at birth, and while this could well be a good thing, I just don't really know.
It's no different from any other form of technology.
Whether it will become a blessing or a curse, is entirely dependent on how those with power will choose to make use of it.
. Yes, is just another technology. But the implications...this gonna sucks. At least for a few centuries.
Watch me destroying my countryThe concept in SEED is a real possibility, but they portray it as a very binary thing. Gene engineering will more likely advance very gradually because genes are so cryptic in their functions.
And changing genes to decide physical factors is one thing, but influencing the mind is a much subtler thing. I can see it working better through connecting the brain to computers.
Stories don't tell us monsters exist; we knew that already. They show us that monsters can be trademarked and milked for years. We'll probably have Warp Drive before humanity sees its first just-like-in-the-anime Coordinator.
Except warp drives may not be physically possible. Coordinators are.
It may be that Warp Drive isn't possible.
But it may be that it is.
Honestly, what humanity needs is another age of space exploration. Which, it appears, is actually starting to happen.
I totally expected orbital and lunar colonies to be a thing long before anyone even talked about going to Mars, though.

Warp drive is theoretically possible. Just the energy needed is massive. We are working around that.
Watchin' still more Macross SEED
EP 11
Mu, whup Natarle's ass! <Mu basically gets whupped> ....Not part of the plan, Mu!
...Murrue, marry me plz?
And speaking of marriages, Athrun needs to lighten up on his waifu.
....Flay? Why are you suddenly speaking in monotone?
<SEED Mode ensues>
...IDK what just happened, but damn if it wasn't cool.
"Otherwise, this war will never come to an end."
...DAMMIT FLAAAAAY!!!
EP 12
...Adm. Halberton is soooo~ coooool~...
T_T7 And once again, Kira Yamato, you have taken a step toward becoming a Man's Man. T_T7
EP 13
...y'know, that would've been totally awesome if not for Flay zig-zagging in and out of her Norman Bates impression the past couple of episodes. It's really suspicious.
Dearka: <blows up warship> <whistles> <smirk> "One more to go."
Izzat just me, or a Wing reference?!
....Yzak, you... You MONSTER!!
Now starting on
EP 14: new OP, huh?
....wonderful, a clip show. Just what I was aching for. ...eh, I'll finish it later. Time to lighten the mood with comedic harem manga now.
...Come again?
It's a joke at how when I signed off last time, at that time the show was focused on a Love Triangle involving an Idol Singer (Kira x Lacus x Athrun).
And now there's also another Love Triangle in potentia, with Lacus x Kira x Flay (although Flay is highly, highly suspect in this instance).

Oh you haven't anything yet.
There are 2 in a row later on. And they show almost exactly the same scenes.

So... I found this.
And I actually like it. The Federation taking on technology far larger and more advanced than their standard tanks and still winning.
You should watch both IGLOO OAV series, they give a really fascinating look at the inner workings of both sides although S1's Zeon was far more interesting than S2's Feddies.
They took some serious queues from the German Navy during WW 2 in creating what life was like on a Zeon ship and it was awesome.
Quick question. Is there any Zeon apologism in it? Like is it "Zeon were the victims" or is it just standard Zeon grunts range from psychopaths to people just fighting because they have to?
They are pretty much soldiers doing what they are told, the ship has a loyalty officer that keeps everyone in line and following the ways of Zeon, akin to the way the SS officer was on German ships during WW 2,
They were very often screwed by the higher ups though.
Alright I can deal with that. I'll try to check it out sometime.
Oh and started After War Gundam X. Jesus Christ Garrod is a fucking badass! He got onto a mobile carrier with only his wits!
TIFA, I BELIEVE IN GOD!
...Mind you, I don't know if you've actually gotten to that little bit yet, but if I hadn't already believed in God, this show would make me do so. It is just that awesome, and Garrod is also just that awesome. (And Jamil is also just that awesome, as you'll know when you get to him.)
x4: It'd directed by the guy who did Stardust Memory. So yes.
...well, okay, all I really have to go on is the Hidolfr short, but that seemed to do its damndest to make the Feddies seem like jackasses and the token drunk-ass Japanese dude piloting a malfunctioning failed Mobile Tank for Zeon a heroic dude. It didn't do it for me (I'm a diehard Feddie, if it wasn't evident), but it still tried.
but HOW?Pretty much all the counterargument needed for that is the The Gravity Front portions, where we get a Feddie infantry platoon commander who has more mobile suit kills than Char Aznable ever will and The Revenge of the Type 61s. Even the death ride of the RTX-440 Guntanks is pretty awesome.
MS IGLOO is very big on it all being somewhat pointless in the end; I think in the entire series only two of the main characters actually survive. Some of them go out well (the infantry lieutenant, having lost his platoon killing two Zakus, pulls his pistol on a third), some of them go out pointlessly (the last survivor of the death ride of the Guntanks bails out of her damaged suit after having taken out a land battleship, only to get killed by friendly artillery), but pretty much nobody gets out alive on either side and often nothing much is even accomplished.

Nous restons ici.The Hildofr one has the Feds gaining a victory, but it's off-screen; they commandeer half a dozen Zakus, and are then defeated a bit too easily by the Zeon weapon. I would say the Feds aren't genre savvy enough to realise that regardless of sides, they are now suited up as iconic mooks while their enemy is in a fast agile prototype. Feds and Zekes may win or lose, but Zakus get blown up.
Most of the episodes have the Zeon weapon pull off something impressive and then get defeated. They may be giving them too much, but there's no apologism in that it never tries to justify their cause, it focuses on soldiers doing their work. It also pushes the Nazi imagery and Zeon citizens treated as fodder by the military.
And in keeping with the timeline, the last episode has Zeon losing the space war and they are committing to battle people who don't belong there, with no daring stunts, just desperate survival.
I'll say about Stardust Memories that while I sometimes wondered if I should care about either side, I never wanted Delaz and Gato to succeed. They may have been pawns, but they were planning to drop a colony with no regards to civilians for a long-lost cause. They were good soldiers but not good people.
Stories don't tell us monsters exist; we knew that already. They show us that monsters can be trademarked and milked for years.
Well, it would've been an age somewhere in the middle between the industrial revolution and the age of digitalization...
