If Disney UnCancelled House of Mouse....

Maybe many expected more from such a wide crossover display, like the characters actually doing more together than staying at the night club watching recycled Mouseworks episodes. Don't get me wrong, I really like the show and it already gives me enough Disney Fanservice, but at times you can't help wondering how a crossover series where the characters actually went into adventures together would have been even better.

The House of Villains special WAS terribly underwhelming, though. So much wasted potential.

I thought that the shorts were pretty good, although I don't understand why they just recycled the same ones for a new show, that was only different because of added frame stories.

Because it was cheaper than making all new shorts.

Honestly, it more or less came across as, "Sure, we'll put these shorts into syndication, but you gotta give us some more content first," and the framing stories were cheaper and easier to make than the shorts themselves.

Insert witty 'n clever quip here.

Perhaps we're asking the wrong question.

Instead of recreating House Of Mouse, if Disney were to make a brand new crossover animated series, what would it have in it? Live action or western animation only? Disney Canon or Pixar inclusory?

Personally I'd love to see a sci-fi comedy series starring Baymax, WALL-E and Weebo

Maybe they'd collab with SQUARE UNIX and do a Kingdom Hearts TV show.

IIRC, they once were in talks for a Kingdom Hearts anime, around the same time they made the Stitch anime, but it fell through.

I would love to see a concept kind of like the Kingdom Hearts concept, with a bunch of Disney worlds tied together, but having nothing to do with Squeenix or Kingdom Hearts at all, being an actual, fully Disney premise.

Though instead of doing "every film/character has a different world," they could have a huge universe that had a bunch of general themes in in it, letting characters live in the same space. They could cast different Disney characters in new and surprising ways, or have them appear in a setting more typical for them. A Disney Universe, I suppose - kind of like what Cartoon Network started but didn't really go as far as they could've with Fusion Fall, as a series.

The interesting part would be figuring out how to tie it all together, what to separate and how, but the whole thing could be written like a big adventure story a la Don Rosa.

It's actually something I wonder about every once in a while. A guy can dream, can't he?

If HOM was rebooted with a mixture of classic animation and CGI, I wouldn't care. It would give them a chance to have more of the funny character interactions. For example, the Frozen characters being portrayed as movie stars, mirroring the rabid fanbase.

Alternately, I had a bizarre idea with the guests being able to do acts. Pocahontas accidentally kills Balloony.

Honestly, I'm seeing more detractors of Frozen than any rabid fans.

It's one thing to make a spectacle. It's another to make a difference.

Weebo? That little floating robot from the Robin Williams Flubber remake?

So basically, Disney Infinity: The Series, but without everyone being a toy? Me gusta.

Most Frozen detractors online (not all, obviously!) seem to be hipsters who think it's cool hating it because a lot of people really liked it.

I find that most forumgoers anywhere tend to not like popular things. So it goes.

I don't hate Frozen, but I'm getting pretty sick of seeing it promoted everywhere.

I like this idea. It gels pretty well with my own headcanons about how the DAC operates.

I enjoyed Frozen well enough the first time, but I like it less every time I see it again. I think I've seen it discussed so thoroughly that now only the flaws jump out at me.

I'm not really a fan of Frozen, not because I'm a hipster who criticizes popular things, but simply because I didn't think there was anything special about it.

Trying to create a Disney universe is complicated. While Disney has been trying to combine all of their franchises for years, if you think about it too much it doesn't make much sense, because the settings are quite different (different times and places, and other such contradictions).

It helps that many of the princess movies can be fudged to take place around the same time (even though they shouldn't) because of the vagueness of the settings. Doing a loose adaptation and forgoing differences in order to keep the characters in the same space works too: like how the comics sometimes have Madame Mim and the modern day Duck family living in the same world.

Heck, the already existing Hercules and Aladdin crossover completely ignores how Aladdin should have taken place centuries after Hercules (the Sultan even mentions Allah, so they profese the Islam), and instead, Aladdin is post-TV series and third movie, while Hercules isn't even an adult yet.

To me all the Disney characters life in the same universe...the Disney universe, which I like to call "Happily ever After".

That would not be my first choice of a name for a shared Disney universe, if for no other reason than that it's a big middle finger to Pocahontas.

Poor Pocahontas.

Maybe it's just my long years of experience with Disneyland, but I like to break down the DAC into categories, mostly based on their settings. I've never sat down and made a comprehensive list, but here are some examples:

You've got your fairy tales, mostly taking place in nebulously located "kingdoms"—often visually or even cultuarlly inspired by real-world countries, but almost never explicitly taking place there. Beauty And The Beast is an exception, name-dropping France, and even it is no more specific than that. Where in France, exactly? The provincial town is unnamed. I can easily see most of the Princess movies being part of the same "pocket" of the Disney universe.

You've got your "jungle adventures," which often do take place in a recognizable part of the world, but that's incidental to the stories, which are more like sightseeing trips with a side order of peril. The Jungle Book, Tarzan, The Emperors New Groove...you could even include The Lion King for its exclusive focus on wildlife and landscapes without any human presence. In the shared universe, these might all take place on the same fantasy jungle continent, with natural barriers like deep rivers preventing the characters from interacting casually while still making it technically possible. It could also explain instances of Misplaced Wildlife in the movies.

I don't intend to make this a giant post, so I'll stop there, but you should get the idea. A shared Disney universe should have some internal logic to it, so Cinderella isn't crossing the street to ask Wilbur Robinson for a cup of sugar without batting an eye.

I think the only way this can make sense is if they're all Animated Actors living in a town similar to that of Disney Infinity.

I usually think to myself that all these movies take place in different universes. Just because they get crossovers doesn't necessarily mean that they're all canon with each other, are they?

Karalora Since: Jan, 2001
#124: Jan 16th 2015 at 8:47:34 AM

I think we're all aware that "canonically," the movies are separate, and even things like Belle appearing in Hunchback or Rapunzel in Frozen are meant as in-jokes and Easter Eggs rather than evidence of shared settings.

But if you were to postulate a shared Disney universe where the characters could visit each other, my post above is how it would be organized. Not a giant massive multi-player free-for-all, but more of a series of themed worlds connected at the margins while still being discrete.

How about time travel? It allows different time periods and locations.
