What interesting things have you only recently learned about?
To be clear, this is about things which have been true for some time and you only recently learned about, not things that only happened recently. In particular, recent deaths of celebrities and other high-profile individuals should go in the General RIP Thread.
So, what interesting things have you guys...and gals...only recently learned about?

Yeah, but Latin seems like the indo-european king of verb tenses, so I was surprised to see that it lacks this one, even more so because my language has it. And it's perfectly alive in colloquial language, unlike the synthetic pluperfect.
Streets Of Rage 3 has a pair of bosses named Mona and Lisa. I've had this game ever since I was a kid, but only realized yesterday that they resemble one of Masamune Shirow's cyber-whores.
I liked it better when Questionable Casting was called WTH Casting AgencyMy mom was born on the exact same day as Scottie Pippen.
"Wait, it's IV. Of course they are. They'd make IV for Dreamcast." - Enlong, on yet another FFIV remakeScottie Pippen was an American basketball player. Apparently.
'All he needs is for somebody to throw handgrenades at him for the rest of his life...'America plays a lot of basketball.
You didn't know that until recently?
something... I was creating a Running Gag, man.
KIK-KACHUNK.
BANG!!!
Gag is no longer running.
'All he needs is for somebody to throw handgrenades at him for the rest of his life...'Confirming gag is down, repeat, gag is down.
A different shape every step I take A different mind every step of the lineOh, Gag.
Your life was short, but sweet.
You shall be sorely missed by all.
Missed by all except, apparently, for one...

'All he needs is for somebody to throw handgrenades at him for the rest of his life...'Indeed.
'All he needs is for somebody to throw handgrenades at him for the rest of his life...'Gun control is hitting what you aimed at.
...if you don’t love you’re dead, and if you do, they’ll kill you for it.Apparently, the box office A-bomb The Oogieloves in the Big Balloon Adventure was inspired by, of all things, the Audience Participation segments of Tyler Perry's Madea Goes to Jail.
(EDIT: Link hopefully fixed)

I hope you get tiny bits of eggshell in all your omelettes for the rest of your life!Page Not Found.
...but REALLY?!?!
Yes. I was surprised, too.
(P.S. It appears that the wiki forum markup automatically puts a space after every comma, which rendered my URL like this:

Just remove the "%20" and you should see the article.)

I hope you get tiny bits of eggshell in all your omelettes for the rest of your life! You can also try a URL shortener like bit.ly or tinyurl.
Quod gratis asseritur, gratis negatur.Apparently in Japanese, "Santa Claus" sounds like "Thunder Cross".[1] That is somehow awesome...
something"Pyramids per teaspoon", as in how many times the weight of the Great Pyramid it would take to equal a teaspoon of a really dense substance, is a valid measurement.
That was the amazing part. Things just keep going. They should've called him Thundercross in Rise Of The Guardians.
He should have a cross that shoots lightning. Very appropriate for a religious icon.
somethingEverything in poundland costs one pound.
I couldn't believe it for a second myself.
