What interesting things have you only recently learned about?

To be clear, this is about things which have been true for some time and you only recently learned about, not things that only happened recently. In particular, recent deaths of celebrities and other high-profile individuals should go in the General RIP Thread.

[up][up] I may be the only one who was actually freaked out by the giant baby from Spirited Away.

Also, the person in the "Sittin' On A Toilet" video is female. Weird...

I don’t even know anymore.

I learnt that "French kissing" is called "English kissing" in France.

Haha. I find this humourous.

TLC ripped off Paul Mc Cartney. Well, not really, but he also wrote a song warning against chasing metaphorical waterfalls, back in 1980.

Also, I was aware that Maurice La Marche was involved in The Tick, but I did not expect that one of the voices he did was The Midnight Bomber.

There is apparently a domesticated strain of foxes which, as a result of the breeding, have dropping ears and tails like dogs.

Green Day ripped off "American Idiot" from a punk band, and ripped off "Boulevard of Broken Dreams" from Oasis.

Although, I worked out the second one before the first.

I learnt that Green Day is still remembered by some people.

I'd forgotten about them for at least a year now.

Fertility testing for humans involves taking hamster eggs and measure how many (human) spermatozoa manage to penetrate them. There is no chance whatsoever of fertilization, of course, but ew.

On June 9, 1980, during the making of the film Bustin' Loose, Pryor set himself on fire after freebasing cocaine while drinking 151-proof rum. He ran down Parthenia Street from his Northridge, California, home—on fire—until being subdued by police. He was taken to the hospital, where he was treated for burns covering more than half of his body. Pryor spent six weeks in recovery at the Grossman Burn Center at Sherman Oaks Hospital. His daughter, Rain Pryor, stated that Pryor poured high-proof rum over his body and set himself on fire in a bout of drug-induced psychosis.

...This is either stupid, awesome, or so stupid it's awesome.
