• Grey's Devil Slayer hits Mard Geer hard. But that was his base form...
• Ah, so the Demon Gates were programmed to off Zeref. ...Wait, if Zeref wanted to die so badly, Edolas seemed like the perfect place for him. No magic, END unleashed, dead Zeref. Too bad the path is now closed.
• OF COURSE that's Genma's reason for becoming a demon. That fight will be as interesting as watching paint dry.
• Also, these fights take place before Face goes off. Kyoka really took her sweet time kicking Erza's butt before losing, huh?

To answer my own question, I'd go with better character development in general. I think Mashima's plotting in characters are actually pretty good when all is said, it's the execution of fights and the characters never actually changing that's the problem.

One change in Fairy Tail...this is really hard because the thing I dislike the most about Fairy Tail is how anticlimatic the fights end up being, and I otherwise enjoy almost everything else to some degree. Almost everything.

I would remove Fairy Sphere's anti-aging. I prefer instead the idea of Fairy Tail's most powerful members Faking the Dead after tricking Acnologia into thinking he won, and secretly training on Tenrou Island for the next 7 years. This would also remove the need to introduce Second Origin, another plot point I never really liked.

So wouldn't "less anticlimatic fights" be an easy answer, then?

Wait, which one of them isn't "main?" Cobra's poison shenanigans?

It sounds like it should be, but I feel like I wasn't just thinking hard enough about anything else I disliked more before I was done typing that line.

I'd fix Hiro's insistence of making the S-class Fairies capable of one shotting Natsu,silly as it sounds.It causes some troubles when it comes to the Sorting Algorithm of Evil .

And maybe have the characters compare the opponent's P Ls (hehe , yeah ) with that of previous ones.E.g,To H Jellal=Laxus<Zero=Bluenote= LSD Froggy (hah),with Gildarts being a bit higher<(Healthy) Makarov=Patched Hades=Bruh Geer<Unpatched Hades and Etherias Geer.Then we get Spriggan tier Gildarts.

Eeek,character tiers,now I feel sick.

Even with the patch Hades and Mard Geer are likely stronger than Makarov. Makarov did lose when he realized Hades had his own Law and so they both couldn't use that spell. Mard Geer probably does rival Hades in strength, but he also went against Gray who had a magic that was his specific weakness and was toying around with the Dragonslayers before his arrival.

While Makarov did get tossed around there,he matched Hades pretty well before his heart attack.Hence the (healthy) bit.Not healthy Makarov is below Happy level.He's been stuck there for a while.

Huh. Well one good thing I will say is that I like how Mashima dropped the Dirty Old Man bit with Makarov pretty quickly.

Bit short, but damn, ashing Zeref in a single attack at the end, while anti-climatic (and I doubt it'll be the end of him) was fucking impressive.

Ah,I think this chap shows why Zeref has to actually fight in order to die.Good ol'Ankhseram.The more he clings to life in a fight,the more "damageable" he is.While at the end he went back to full Death Seeker mode.Which probably made him more immortal.That jerk.

Huh… Whatever you might say, I found the chapter pretty good and intense. Yeah, there's little chance that Zeref will be dead next week, but still.

Here I'm only surprised Mashima at the end will give Lucy's mom some importance. I remembered the thing that she died the same year as the dragons disappeared, but I thought I would mean nothing by now. At least she seemed to be important to Zeref, wonder what that will be about.

And yeah, I expect Zeref getting reduced to nothing by a single punch from Natsu won't be the end of this.

My friend just sent me a comment from someone who said that Natsu's insides were bulletproof and that he could eat any form of energy.

I find it hilarious when more extreme fans make shit up. I read one comment say the that the speed of light was slow compared to DBZ characters.

Fans can be crazy. I know a couple. I got these friends I hang out with & whenever the topic comes up they always say Goku can beat Superman. The problem there is that there so pigheaded & fucking annoying about it that they immediately turn down any discussion on the matter cause they cant offer much of a reason besides loving Goku & finding Superman a boring loser which is totally untrue.

I'm in the position of increasingly finding that sort of thing to be pointless- one needs to recognize that Power Levels will never not be arbitrary, especially if you're comparing them across different canons.
