I find his writer revolts a bit petty and childish though. Anyways, I'm glad the comic's back on a lighter note. I would've quit it if it kept going grimdark.

It's just that he has no tolerance for their wank.

Not true. He tolerates it, he just doesn't try to conceal that he thinks it's silly.

@Marioguy: What writer revolts? He writes exactly what he wants to regardless of whether or not anyone likes it. It's not like he's intentionally rebelling against the fans if he does something they don't like.

What writer revolts?
They're probably talking about that recent "No, Tavros and Kanaya are not gonna be resurrected" kiss part, which is a pretty obvious Take That! (This is stupid.) against the fans who were speculating on that. I don't think it was offensive, but there definitely wasn't much of a reason for it otherwise.

I personally like it when he has less meta moments, but that's just because there's been so many recently.

That wasn't really a Take That!. The readers were led to believe, as were the trolls, that there was some chance of reviving them. We were just shown that they couldn't.

In fairness, I have to say that the Rufio part after that probably was a Take That!.

It struck me more as a silly filler to try and brighten the mood, to be honest, especially given how John is still watching afterwards.

After about a week and a half a BILLION YEARS of Archive Binge I'm finally up to date. And wow, this is the most fun I've had with a work in God knows how long. The humor, the music, the awesome, the mind-bendingly challenging plot...

Also, this has props for having a line that legitimitely terrified me: Don't turn your back on the body.

Yes, it was said. Highlight the post man.

BTW Latia, bonus points for not only making it a spoiler but also a character reference.

The Rufio thing just struck me as kinda unnecessary, mainly because it had nothing to do with the plot. And the sequence with John and WV that Fhappened immediately afterward would have broken the tension equally well, and in a more plot relevant fashion.

My only issue with Hussie's "ego" thing is that he doesn't seem to allow any room for constructive criticism. From what I've seen (which admittedly isn't a whole lot) he tends to react to good-natured suggestions for improvement or legitimate questions the same way that he reacts to ridiculous questions; like times a fan asks him to clarify something and he blames them for not being observant enough. That said, he's an extremely gifted writer and storyteller, and he's produced what is undoubtedly one of the most unique works out there. He's just not perfect.

The Rufio thing also served as a good transition. I mean, how else do you go from "all your favorite characters are killing each other" to "magical road trip"?

[up]Not really. Most of the time, it seems to just be for humor's sake, like claiming John's computer sinking into the ocean was an "obvious" reference to a seen from The Neverending Story. Heck, I think some people are overreacting to Kanaya's "I'm Sorry. I Thought That Was Obvious." statement, since clearly it wasn't. I mean, our perspective character for this scene (Jade) didn't know, and the fact that they're breeding frogs was clearly a punchline. It's not a Take That, Audience!, it's a joke. We're lead to believe she's going to be breeding humans, and then Kanaya pulls out the zinger that they're breeding frogs. If Hussie expected us to know this, I doubt he'd have gone to the trouble of hiding just how small the cloning equipment was.

I wasn't talking about the frog thing; I was referring more to his attitude on his formspring. I've seen a couple of questions where fans ask for clarification on something that genuinely wasn't clear (whether intentionally or unintentionally) and then get treated like idiots because of it.

I still wouldn't say that he's at Small Name, Big Ego levels, just that he sometimes expects his audience to pick up on things that aren't really obvious at all.

Well, that's what the recaps are for, no? :P

I think he just expects a lot from his audience. And he has said that he's aware how complicated and potentially confusing Homestuck can be.

I guess I just find his long discussions of narrative devices strangely fascinating, like his description of the difference between reading the comic as it goes and reading the archive.

[up]I wouldn't go as far as "insufferable", but something like that. At least he's genuinely talented, so I really don't mind it too much. He could just be a little more tactful about correcting his fans.
