Right here. I've never played the game, or even seen one played, but I got interested through Shinji And Warhammer 40 K, gave the Ciaphas Cain omnibus a try, and was instantly hooked. Of everything I've read, I love all of Dan Abnett and Sandy Mitchell's 40K books the best.
I managed to get my younger sister interested in Ciaphas Cain.
You are dazzled by my array of very legal documents.Yet another Lore Whore here. Mostly I just read the novels since I don't have the money to sink into the game and keep up with my other hobbies.
Welcome to the Sea of ChaosWell, it's the fiction that got me in (with TV Tropes as a Gateway Drug), but I ended up buying the Dawn Of War series and the tabletop game.
"And as long as a sack of shit is not a good thing to be, chivalry will never die."Yes, I've never played the game, but I love the hell out of the fluff.
Again with the data mining, dear Aunt?Same! Currently Reading through the Cain Omnibus. Also read through a Large amount of fan Fiction on 1d4chan.org. Stuff is amazingly entertaining. The Traitors Hand had me laughing out loud And provides no end of amusement. I've also gone and memorized the different Chaos Gods, as well as some good 'ol chants. Gotta love "BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD GOD; SKULLS FOR THE SKULL THRONE!".
Any recommendations for further reading Tropers?

Not 40K, but I only got into the Malus Darkblade books for Warhammer Fantasy because I like Mike Lee (he wrote much of the setting for Demon The Fallen).
Thought they were compelling enough to write up the page for them.
"The secret we should never let the gamemasters know is that they don't need any rules." - E. Gary GygaxAnother Cain fan here.
Reality is that which, when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. That reminds me. Does anyone know of any other Tau focused fiction besides the novelisation of Fire Warrior? The only other book I've found even containing them was the first Cain novel.
Welcome to the Sea of ChaosCount me amongst your number.
Also, does anyone have any recommendations for awesome "writefaggotry" of heroism from /tg/? I adored Love and Krieg.
An useless name, a forsaken connection.Who wants to see a film? I don't mean like an animated straight-to-DVD film, but like a big budget live-action extravaganza with an A-list director.
A fistful of me.Stopped playing the game, but am still very much into the fluff. Maybe when there's a good codex for the races I like. :(
Could you provide further details of this animated film of which you speak for this is the first I've heard of it.
Secondly, a big budget film (live action or CGI) would be indeed epically awesome if done right but doing it right is not a simple task. Your first and possibly biggest problem is that in capturing the Grimdark inherent in the setting you'd risk creating an Audience-Alienating Premise.
If you can get past that you're kind of spoiled for choice in casting both protagonists and antagonists. Marines (and if so which Chapter?), Guard (and if so which Regiment which can radically alter the tone of the setting?) or do you risk summoning the Inquisition? (Though Ordo Xenos with an attached Deathwatch Team might be made to work and allow the use of a broad spectrum of the Imperium's society if you're careful about dealing with the Imperium's institutionalised xenophobia). Or, assuming that Games Workshop would let you get away with it do you cast one of the order aligned xenos factions (read that as Craftworld Eldar and Tau).
Antagonists give almost as much choice. Chaos, Dark Eldar, Necrons, Tyranids or the always popular Orks! This will also vastly effect how the movie feels as the Orks would probably be best suited for straight action or even action/humour while Necrons would probably be more akin to survival horror given their nature while the 'Nids turn everything into a straight out Bug War.
All these choice and more will affect both how the general movie going populace and the fanbase see the movie.
Welcome to the Sea of ChaosThis is the article on the film from The Other Wiki.
A fistful of me.There's been some trailers, and frankly, it doesn't look that good. But we'll see...
I'm into 40K for the fluff mainly because I can't afford an army. Howewer, I'm a loyal son of Fenris:
"FOR RUSS AND THE ALLFATHER!!!"
I reject your reality and substitute my own!!!You know, I sometimes wonder how widespread the official Imperium attitude towards Xenos is. I mean, it's probably pretty common, but some of the material suggests a more pragmatic attitude. If you take the Cain novels as canon, the fact that there's actually a Tau embassy on an Imperial world speaks volumes.
I think, at least for some in the Inquisition, it's a case of "we really don't want to have to work with them, but if that's what it takes, then so be it." Eisenhorn and Ravenor both worked with Eldar farseers (Ravenor actually sought them out for some of his research and training), and in Emperor's Mercy an Inquisition agent used a Tau gunsuit against Chaos forces. I was reading through one of the Dark Heresy game books, and part of the fluff was a story where an Inquisition agent returned a special artifact to a Craftworld as part of a Chaos investigation; the Eldar were very grateful, and invited him to witness a Harlequin performance. Of course, said performance made him go insane...
Yeah that'd be me. I no longer have any models but I kept the codex just because it was so damn funny.
I'm done with the game though. Unless in the future I find more than two friends who play the games, then I might start up another chaos space marine force...but I heard they don't even summon daemons anymore? What's the point? The closest hobby shop stop selling war hammer years ago and the games workshop place is 25 miles out. So even if I wanted too...
Yeah, still a fan of the fiction, but that's it.
Modified Ura-nage, Torture RackIf the next army you'd like to start is CSM, then there's another nail in the coffin for you. The latest codex is absolute bullshit.
But according to 1d4chan, it's not as bad as the Chaos daemon codex.
"And as long as a sack of shit is not a good thing to be, chivalry will never die."
I know nothing about the tabletop game, but I can't get enough of the fictional universe that serves as its background.
