Devil May Cry

I have to agree. It was really what I was getting at in my previous post. Having a simple plot can be a boon after all. As said already, the game play is the star attraction.

(2) As aforementioned, don't expect an amazing story. That said, Nero has one of the best dub voice actors in the biz and the game's soundtrack is ballin'. Also, some of the best boss fights in the series.

Please don't discuss Dangonronpa on this thread. And especially avoid talking about plot sensitive stuff no matter how vague you are or how It Was His Sled it is. We have a thread for those games and Private Messages and I don't want spoilers for certain games to turn up in completely unrelated topics. I know we're talking about game stories and how DMC stacks up, but let's limit that to stuff that's pertinent to DMC, OK? I'll give an example of how I feel we should talk about other games' stories on an unrelated thread below. Notice how I'm not going to even vaguely mention plot points because the games are unrelated to the main topic.

I don't know much about Capcom's storytelling other than what I experience runs on Narm Charm. Resident Evil and DMC are big examples. I will say I took many of the Darker and Edgier Mega Man X and just about all of Mega Man Zero pretty seriously, however. And it wasn't difficult for me to do so.

The DMC narrative is more about making the player feel like the ultimate demon hunter, which is why DMC 3 is one of my favourite examples of narrative pacing from a gameplay perspective. DMC 4 is also very good at this for different reasons.

4's narrative is more about making you feel like the ultimate badass... and then reminding you that you are not the ultimate badass, but you are actually the ultimate badass's step-brother sort of.

Oh fuck man, I forgot completely about Megaman Zero. Yeah, add that to the list of Capcom games with good writing ^note So long as you ignore Complete Works' retcon that the 3 guardians died in the Omega explosion that is. MMX would also be a contender if it weren't for really faulty translations and retcons.

Yeah, DMC 4 is great for empowering the player in other ways.

You play as Nero who's cool, but Dante's cooler, but then you play as Dante and then you play as Nero who does the coolest thing and then Dante says "you are the heir to the cool."

Okay, so yet another leak has come in about a potential DMC 5. And before I post it, this leak is on Resetera, the successor to Neo GAF. It has been posted with the requirement that if the leak is false, then the person who did post it will be perma banned. In my opinion, this is a leak that is more convincing than others, but it honestly does sound a bit too good to be true.

Here it is. Make your own judgement.

I still haven't played DMC 4 but I can't imagine not enjoying this unless they really fucked it up somewhere.

I do hope Lucia does return in a future game. I thought she was a decent character even if DMC 2 wasn't liked very much

Isn't DMC 2 considered non-canon as an official statement? If so, that would mean Lucia would have to be reintroduced as a "new" character.

I don't think so. I think its just been relegated to the end of the timeline, where no sequels dare tread.

Lucia is really the main character of DMC 2. Dante is so divorced from everything, not just in personality. His only real hook is that Sparda apparently ruled the island or some crap.

It's also nice to continue the whole "being a demon, even a constructed demon, doesn't make you a shithead by default." The plot is still boring of course.

And Arius was probably the lamest villain in the games.

Also, I'm not reading that "leak" because I don't want spoilers. I hope everyone else here has the etiquette to make sure the "leaked" info is properly spoiler tagged.

There's no spoilers, unless you count vague hints as spoilers.

To be honest... I kinda do. I have a very strict personal ethic for spoilers.

I even hate trailers. Trailers Always Spoil.

I'll watch the first trailer of stuff... at most.

I'd say which characters will appear in the game could count as spoilers.

To go further, if I read a rumour or "leak" that says "the plot will go in this direction" and it does indeed happen that way, I would say I was spoiled on it.

So the Devil May Cry HD Collection is coming to PS4, Xbox One and PC. Not only does this mean PC owners get a working version of Devil May Cry 3, but... The timing of this next to the DMCV rumours seems awfully convenient...

What's more, Geoff Knightly retweeted the announcement of DMC HD... Hmmm...

Not at the Awards show sadly, but PSX is still coming.

Course, rumors have it that Sony told Capcom to hold off the reveal till E3 so as to make their showing at that event stronger in response to the mediocre reception of their previous show, so yeah.

I still think that's a stupid decision on Sony's part. At least show the reveal trailer at PSX, and then set up the gameplay reveal at E3. Don't sit on this for another 7 months at the last second.

Just a rumor, remember. They could still reveal it this weekend, but it would stink if the former was true though. Thanks Sony, for making us wait on what is essentially a completed trailer just to pump up your ego stroke.

And I gotta say, it was absolutely painful to see Tameem Antoniades win an award tonight. Can't stand that guy's smug face.

Hell Blade completely redeemed Ninja Theory in my eyes.
