This thread is for quick questions. A "quick question" is a question which has a relatively quick, generally factual answer; a question which is not likely to inspire an extended discussion.
e.g.
Quick Question: How tall is an average ten-year-old boy?
Not a Quick Question: Why are Americans obsessed with guns?
Quick Question: Why is ALS sometimes called Lou Gehrig's Disease? Who was Lou Gehrig?
Not a Quick Question: In Alan Dean Foster's Thranx Commonwealth series, is Pip a Mary Sue?
Get the idea?

What's the difference between Butt-Monkey and The Chew Toy? Because it really seems like they're interchangeable.
"It's liberating, realizing you never need to be competent." — UltimatepheerGood question.
what do you mean I didn't win, I ate more wet t-shirts than anyone elseSo a chew toy is kind of YMMV?
what do you mean I didn't win, I ate more wet t-shirts than anyone elseI guess. You're supposed to relish how much they dump on Meg on Family Guy, but I don't.
Fresh-eyed movie blogNeither do I.
That's one reason I don't watch the show.
what do you mean I didn't win, I ate more wet t-shirts than anyone elsei see there are a lot of choices for the "relationships" status but i am unable to find the necrophiliac option, is there one?
__________________________________________________Nah, there is no such thing as a "necrophiliac" button.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard Feynmanwell dat sucks, ill just go with the fishing one then. i love fish, maybe a little too much
__________________________________________________I recently got a virus that continually plays audio commercials. From what I can tell - it seems pretty harmless but because it's on a school computer - I can't install any antivirus software apart from what's already there. Has anyone heard of this thing, can it steal my identity or do anything else dire, and is there a thread to go to for help?
To anyone who uses or has used the Wii Homebrew Channel, does the RSSMii app still work? I subscribed to several feeds with predictable update times, but the message board remains empty. I'm worried that it's the partial service shutdown in June last year that did it.
"It's liberating, realizing you never need to be competent." — UltimatepheerYou say it's a school-managed machine and that you've been barred from attempting any typical virus removal procedures, so I think your school's IT department would be better equipped to help you out.

"Jack, you have debauched my sloth."I plan on taking it to them when I get back to school Monday. Unfortunately, I'm not there now so what should I do? Leave it off till then or what?
If you're really worried and don't have easy access to another computer, don't enter anything that you don't want stolen into the computer in case there's a keylogger. I'd be leery about typing in, for instance, a password to an email account that contains correspondences with banks and whatnot. (Which, looking at your Troper page, probably doesn't apply to you.) Email providers are common targets by password thieves. If you have homework that you need to get done, use it for that only.
On that note, the malware just seems like adware, but again, without a more thorough look, it could potentially have something else as well. Who knows.
"Jack, you have debauched my sloth."You seem to know a lot about this sort of thing. Mind if I PM you to avoid cluttering up this page?
Sure. I'll try to help.
"Jack, you have debauched my sloth."Thanks - I sent you a PM
So can anyone tell me of a way to get rid of vocals on music files? I tried the latest version audacity but it couldn't remove the vocals and it only support center panned vocals.
"Eratoeir is a Gangsta."The only ways I know are to have a multitrack file with the vocals isolated on one track or to have the vocals isolated on a separate file, invert the waveform, and lay it over the other file so the inverted vocals cancel the source vocals.
Some people who know more about sound engineering seem to do more, but I have no idea how.
Fresh-eyed movie blogRelated: Is it possible to isolate the vocals from an audio track if there exists a with-vocals version and an off-vocal/karaoke version?
Is there a file in Windows, somewhere deep in the registry or wherever, that, if deleted, permanently destroys the computer's ability to connect to the internet in any way (and if possible allows it to run fine offline for extra stealth potential)?
(This is a hypothetical... at the moment.)
Anyone who assigns themselves loads of character tropes is someone to be worried about.Maybe. It depends on if the karaoke track is from the original mix or a new instrumental performance.
Fresh-eyed movie blogHow come google is doing jack all with their logo for Easter?
hashtagsarestupidThey generally stay away from overt religious themes in the Doodles.
^^ Generally, between 45 and around 60. The ones Rosvo listed are the main structural pieces, but then you have all the pieces that make up the firing mechanism, and in a semi-auto, the feed and extractor mechanisms. The magazine for a semi-auto has at least three: the outer shell, the feed spring, and the sole plate.

An exploded diagram of a Ruger Security Six revolver◊
However, if you look at those closely, you'll note that the Ruger is counting the front sight and the two screws that hold it in place as three separate pieces. The Colt doesn't have those three. There are also three more for the rear sight on the Ruger that the Colt doesn't have.
Now, if your question is "how many pieces are there that a non-gunsmith owner/user of a handgun will ever need to worry about in the course of routine maintenance?" That's ... between 6 and 8.
